New Head Of Performance - Will Abbott, leaving in September (p3)

I think he's done a terrific job and will be sorely missed.
At the same time though, its the kind of role which if you offer the right salary, we should be able to replace.3 -
The price of success. Job title may look like a step down but I doubt the pay is.0
-
Our performance in terms of results in the last 9 months is bound to create interest from other clubs and that will naturally lead to key members of staff receiving offers as others have said it’s the price of success4
-
Optimistic part of brain- just a coincidence and if any one of the 3 recently announced departures wasn't happening there's probably be nothing much to see here. Thanks to all, now onwards and upwards.
Negative side- new arrivals causing discord in the camp, probably the Blackpool duo and Kelman as his heart is probably still at Orient.3 -

Tracey, of course, was here throughout the crap years and had predecessors. I think we can say, definitively, that she has been very good at her job and will be a tough act to follow. But again, doesn't mean her replacement will be no good and maybe they will even find ways to build further on what Tracey has established.
Change brings opportunity as well as risk.
If disagreements with NJ are part of the reason, well conflict at senior positions are normal in organisations and can lead to ways parting over differences of opinions. Doesn't necessarily mean things are "toxic" or anyone has behaved inappropriately, but it is clear that NJ is top dog and has a vision and plan for how to realise it. I think for NJ's methods to work it probably is important that everyone buys in 100% and pulls in the same direction. You have to be careful not to end up with an echo chamber full of yes men, but if some of the backroom team didn't agree with NJ's approach, then it may be healthier overall if they depart and appointments are made that will keep the management team more harmonious.3 -
I mean if you would have told me Nathan Jones is difficult to work with I wouldn't be too surprised.
While he delivers the results we want, it's his way or the highway I would imagine.8 -

A guy in his position can be as important as a player.0 -
Tracey worked at the club during the times of Roland, Southall, Nimer, and the Paul Elliotttt fiasco so i highly doubt she's decided to leave because of NJ when we're the most stable we've been in over a decade.
And Abbott i suspect has simply been offered a much better paid role elsewhere.29 -
Phew... Was beginning to worry that this Summer was going to be far too good as a Charlton supporter... But Byrne, Tracey and Abbott leaving is the true, sharp kick in the bollocks that we've been waiting for. Being a fan of this club never fails to disappoint.2

I always felt he was a bit over hyped..we paid proper money for a proper fitness / performance head. Pay proper money again and we will get someone comparable.
But good luck Will as he clearly did an excellent job for us.5 -

Once again, headhunter 101: Any idiot can fire people. Replacing them with better people is much, much harder.9 -

Is there a common denominator here ?3 -

FWIW I think Tracey and Will have run off together and are starting a new life downunder.15 -
I bet Ged Roddy, Andy Scott and Charlie Methven had something to do with it.1
-
He's probably just found a higher paying job and that's that. No everything has to be a conspiracy5
-
Maybe he just fancies a change 🤷♂️1
-
And just when it was all going so well.
I don’t think it is easy to find a replacement for someone who has helped build a culture of success at SL.
Hopefully they can get the right person in.2 -
I think from memory, ( I maybe wrong, can’t rember where!) he lived a long way away, would make a difference, if he had a long commute, and maybe not sustainable long term.
I did ask him, how long it typically takes, to do a medical, when we sign a player, as fans get impatient, etc, he said about 3 hours, as an average, although I guess it depends on their medical history.0 - Sponsored links:

There is this weird love affair with him on this forum. I don’t doubt he was good at his job but he is a sport performance guy. There are some on here who saw Aneke stay relatively healthy for a ten game stretch and somehow equated Dr Will with being involved with everything that went well last year including scouting whether a potential player would be injured to our propensity to score late in matches. It really was a little bizarre2
-
So why did Will Abbott and Tracey fall out with NJ ?
raytreacy is a respected and positive poster so there’s no way he’s making this up.
As long as the results keep coming a blind eye to the lunatic will happily be done , if we hit a rocky road though (hopefully failure to win the Champions League final in ten years time ) the heat will increase more than normal4 -

I wonder if he's quit because a couple of our signings 'failed' medicals and Jones gave the order to sign them anyway. Gee I love to speculate!3

Besides the obvious case of Burke, the really weird Knibbs transfer mini-saga could be explained this way2
-
Peak Charlton Life thread - supposition, bed wetting, ITK bollocks, conflation, and not a fact to be seen other than the clubs statement.4
-
Well there’s a surprise. No mention of another club coming in for him, but if he needs to move on then good luck to the Doc in his future endeavours

Quality coaching/sports medical staff will always be in demand.1
