Bristol City [A] tickets to go on restricted sale

  • I think away support of around 10% of a clubs home attendances seems a fairly good average. Those that get 5k for home games generally take about 500 away on average etc. This season if we get an average gate of around 18k and an average away support of around 1800, that seems about right to me.

Should have sold out very quickly imo, surprised it didn't.

A few Bristol City fans also surprised we haven't sold out.

We can't all be on holidays surely. Wembley there was a demand, we are in the big time now, would be nice to show it and back the team who have been so good for us for so long.
Not really comparing apples with apples here. School summer holidays started about 2 weeks ago so plenty of families will use this time to spend time together abroad, play offs were in May, hence the turnout with the added help of the occasion. Don't think it's fair to allude that people aren't backing the team...
It would take 8.5% of our Wembley turn out roughly to sell out Bristol City away.

If you are in a position where you can go, but you aren't, but you were one of the people demanding for a Wembley ticket, then I'll be blunt, you are in no position to talk. (If that doesn't apply to you or anyone reading this, then you shouldn't care)

My post obviously doesn't apply to people who can't go for valid reasons. Based on the demand for Wembley, first season back in the Champ, nice weather, Saturday 3pm kick off, and us spending a significant amount of money, the team should be backed.

As I always say, if this was Liverpool away or Man United, people would be asking for spares. It's just the truth.
And it’s the truth that people should just stop f*cking telling other people how to support their club.
Don’t feed the troll, he could start a row in a phone box
Now now, we had enough argy bargy on Saturday....

Plenty of tickets still in Block 35 and a few in 41.

Personal view, I think it’s a little disappointing given all that’s happened in the last 12 months that we took 2,700 to Reading in L1 this time last year and we are struggling to sell our allocation for first game back in the Champ.

Middle of August when a lot of people are still away on holiday and you're disappointed that we've sold about 2,400 tickets? Seems like pretty decent numbers to me.
As I said, just personal view, but yes, a little surprised. We sold out so many away ends last season, comfortably taking numbers like 2,800 to Peterborough, Reading etc that I thought they’d be huge enthusiasm for the opening away game that it would not even reach general sale (even accounting for holidays).

Still a good turnout and I’m sure will be a good atmosphere, I just anticipated higher demand all things considered
Reading and Peterborough are so much closer though, it’s an hour or so on the train compared to 3 hours plus travel to the ground
Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads takes only 95 minutes, Woolwich to Paddington 27 minutes one of the most straightforward trips of the season.
    Half-hourly service Paddington /Temple Meads.
People using holidays as an excuse for non attendance, Watford sold out their allocation on Saturday as did Millwall at Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday at Leicester for example.
How many Charlton supporters who go away live in Woolwich, or Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley? Less than half I would think.

Do you think? Where are the majority of away followers travelling from then do you reckon, Kent?

A good chunk are coming from Kent but from all over, like the home support.

Don’t do many away games these days but was tempted by this, floated the idea amongst those I go with but he general consensus was to get qpr tickets instead - some chance of that !!
For me an away game is the minimum of being a true fan. Ringfenced and all that malarkey…

If only being a "true" fan could be measured purely by away matches attended, it’s not that simple. Using away attendance as a barometer ignores the many social and economic barriers: family, work shifts, childcare, travel, and match day costs. Personally, I don’t fancy trekking to Blackburn or Swansea, paying high train fares or driving long distances, then standing behind the goal in the away end when I prefer a halfway-line seat. I love going to the Valley and have had a season ticket for 40+ seasons but alot of time an Away Day experience leaves me disappointed, regardless of the result, its simply not as enjoyable.  Fair play to those travelling far and wide, especially for long-distance midweek games. I’m only doing the Boro midweek trip this season to see a friend who supports them, otherwise I’d watch on TV. Onwards and upwards, looking forward to going to Ashton Gate on Saturday.

I spend a lot of time in Bristol for work, and it is a cracking city. A pub lovers paradise with some absolutely phenomenal drinking spots dotted around the city centre. With the weather as it is, Saturday will be a cracker
Bristol might be the nicest city in the world but I wont be seeing any of it. Drive, park, watch the match & drive home again.
For me, part of any away day is having a mooch about the place. When else would I have the opportunity to explore the beauty of Fleetwood, for example?

How are all "True" fans meant to get to away games when the allocation for away games means not all fans can go.

Also how do you define "true" fans?

People are offended because I want to see higher attendances and want people to attend games that they physically can. Amazing.

Be interesting if we draw a big Premier league team in the cup and all of a sudden people will be more willing to go.

Just to be clear one more time. I am not telling anyone how to support this club. I am saying it's disappointing to not see better support.

To be fair, I did have a little walk along the beach and up and down the high street (decent bacon roll from a greasy spoon)....before a nice cup of tea in the Wetherspoons...didn't feel the need to see any more of Fleetwood :-)

TRA, if this post is in response to my post about an "away game is the minimum of being a true fan" I fully agree with you. It was a sarcastic comment relating to other posters recent and historic statements on what constitutes a supporter based on their own criteria through which a bus can be driven.

Every fan has their own way of being a fan - some go home and away religiously, some pick and choose. Some buy season tickets, some don't. Some are lapsed, others are addicted. Some have found other things to do, and different life stages result in different levels of attendance. Some never attend games.

Any of these doesn't make anyone more or less a fan.
  • No adult tickets left for sale now.
  • No adult tickets left for sale now.
Bloody day trippers only showing up for the big matches! If only they would do it for a mid August game in Bristol for our first away day of the season! oh wait...
  • No adult tickets left for sale now.
Plenty of seats in block N35
    Several seats in block N41
  • When I go into the detail it says they are ambulant  disabled only

Thinking about it logically, why would a whole block be ambulant disabled?
If you click on the seat and then go to the basket it shows as an adult ticket.

Still over 200 tickets left, and Bristol City haven't even given us a full allocation. They can hold over 4000.

Schoolboy error. Read the list and completely missed the adult selected ticket. Doh!!
  • With less than 250 tickets left on sale, I'm pretty sure we'll sell out by Saturday

I'll go ask my nan and non Charlton supporting mates if they fancy this game as they are by your logic now fully fledged fans after watching the game at Wembley, they have zero excuse!

Where do they sit the other 1500 away fans then? Looking at the map of the ground, they'd be completely separate.

Are you sure the initial 2500 wasn't for the middle tires and the other 1500 are for the tires on the side of them?

Never been to Ashton Gate before so I'm genuinely asking.

If my memory serves me right a lot of the front sections of some of the blocks are sealed off.

I'm sure the front sections are blocked off as they have been sold, meaning we would have requested more, so they have to open up the side blocks. Would seem strange that they would open up the sides before the front (behind the goal).

Doing my math's here, we have sold at least 4000 tickets, as I doubt they would open up another area in the home-end to accommodate us more tickets. You can see on the website that it clearly highlights the away end and we have sold all 3 middle blocks with 1 of the sides practically sold out and there roughly 250 left on the other side.

As you can see, I don't waste my evenings
