The more you zoom in on that, the more disturbing it gets. It’s like an Aphex Twin video.

    Great win btw. COYR!
Harvey Knubas took his goal well

That new player Knubas was something special, did we sign him this morning?

  • Like everyone else, absolutely glowing after that.

Everyone's covered pretty much everything, except for the one thing that gave me a pang of disappointment. The attendance. After all the noise from the club during the midweek, I was expecting 23k maybe 24k. As was Brownie, btw, and he's part of the club.

There were less Charlton fans there today than for the Burton game.

I remember @Airman Brown would mention that opening fixtures suffer a bit from people being on holiday. But it was a bit of an anti-climatic note to hear at the end of a great day in every other way.

Not sure what we can do about it, other than spread the word.

Lots of empty seats in Covered near me and West and East huge gaps.
    away end rammed
I didn't go as I didn't think I'd get a ticket near people I know and was worried it was sold out 🥲
  • Just 4 words for today's fantastic performance.

    " The Tingle is back."
    Ding Dong
  • Always feel Charlton are better when we out work opponents rather than out play them. I think this season we won't be better technically but we will outplay opposition by pressing them and overall just wanting it more.

    Promoted by Easter
  • Next week against Bristol City will be very interesting. Struber likes his teams to press relentlessly.

Great result for them yesterday, too.

The season opener has got earlier iver the years.  Yesterday i wwnt to a gym class in the morning where there are normally 25 people all year round, there were 6.

We had our family holiday warly this year but most years we wouldnt make a 9th august game.

Both the season ticket attenders (counted in the total given but still empty seats) and the non-season ticket purchases will have significantly affected and i think the crowd was, given the date in august, very strong.

The season used to start later but we’ve had a July 31st start and very early starts for many years now. L1 and L2 kicked off on August 2nd. Other things being equal we tend to get better crowds in early August than later. Gym classes are available all year round, I assume, and don’t have novelty or rarity value. Take up won’t be related to weather or euphoria.

It was pretty clear that sales stalled for this game after a very positive beginning. I think that’s about price as much as anything, and £35 on the day is a hefty amount for a less committed fan. Hardly a disaster, but the club probably sold about 6,000 home match tickets. Perhaps they would have sold closer to 10,000 if they hadn’t overcooked the pricing?
    Wait until Tuesday night then.

Reality will kick in for the management on how the crowd size can quickly sink back.

As I have commented on for season tickets we are still pricing too high relatively to other alternates for household spend.

Kaminski - Solid enough, perhaps one or two corners I felt he should of came for plus a little mix up with the defence in the second half but I feel more confident with him between the sticks than AMB or Mannion

Ramsay - Stepped up well to this level like we all knew he would

Jones - Same as Ramsay. What a threat he is in the oppo box

Bell - You can see why he's got the nod over Mac. Calm on the ball and looks solid defensively. Let's hope he stays fit

Edwards - Usual stuff from Josh up and down the wing like nobodies business and physically excellent. Again a player who I think will adapt well to this league. Should of had a pen

Coventry - I thought he dropped off a tad in the second half where we lost the midfield battle. It will be interesting to see his progress over the season

Docherty - Warning signs for me today with Doc. He was our weak link in midfield, lost the ball on a number of occasions and didn't look up to speed. Some decent passes going forward but overall I thought he was poor.

Carey - The better of our midfield central three and carried a threat going forward. Will be interesting to see how he does against the better teams

Apter - I'm quietly impressed with him. Some decent balls into the box and always looked to get involved.

Campbell - Naturally gets the crowd off their seats with his game and he continued to do that today. One I'll be closely watching this season, hopefully he can step up

Kelman - The pressure of being the "star striker". A tough physical game for him. Should of squared it when one on one but he wants his goal. I'd give him minutes against Stevenage to break his duck

    SUBS

Leaburn - Didn't really get into the game, more minutes needed

Macca - I think he will be a bit part player this season but that's fine. He's still worth having around

Knibbs - Done exactly what we need of him. Having players like this on the bench will win us games!

Olaofe - Showed strength and promise for the short period he was on. Again having someone like this on the bench will do us no harm further down the line

So a couple of hundred thousand from additional ticket sales, £6 for a programme, more people than I’ve seen before wearing new replica shirts, and food and drink outlets doing a roaring trade. Well done to the Club for maximising match day revenue.
I realise that all of this hardly covers the players’ wage bill, but they’re definitely going in the right direction.
  • Great atmosphere and even better result. Thought Apter and Carey introduced themselves very well looking forward to when Knibbs is fully fit. Bring on Bristol City next. Up the reds!!!
  • What a win and what a noise at the end. Defence was fucking amazing.

Only grumble was Kelman looked dog shit.
Only just got back to Broadstairs, so a bit behind the thread.
Kelman didn't set the game alight but he wasn't shit. The service to him definitely was shit though. What's the point of pumping the ball in the air to him?
That’s you me & BroadstairsRed living here. Any other Lifers live in Broadbados?

I’m still concerned about Leaburns body language, he just doesn’t seem happy, thought the same before he got injured last season.
You might want to watch the goal celebration from yesterday. He was very very happy!
  • Great result which I thought we deserved Ramsay and Apter were outstanding. Despite the criticism of Leaburn earlier I though things changed when he came on to give them something else to think about.

Keeper worries me a bit as I felt he was a bit static at corners which we won't win every header and needs to be a bit more assertive.

Must admit I did a few verses of do do do fucking useless and asked a few Watford fans whether they still thought Nathan Jones was a wanker, in response to them singing those songs.
