We hadn’t planned on going to the Watford game this Saturday, we’ve got a family BBQ in the afternoon and that was meant to be the day’s focus.
But plans change for the right reasons.
My brother-in-law, who does fostering up in Scotland, has been looking after a football-mad lad for the last 18 months. He’ll have him for many more years too, making sure he’s got a secure and loving family environment to grow up in. We’ve been sending up Charlton shirts and bits of merch when we’ve had them, just to give the boy a bit of connection to the club, and we've always said that when they next come down, we’d take him to a game.
Well, out of the blue, they told us they’re flying down on Saturday, 06:30 flight from Edinburgh and will be staying with us. We thought about maybe going to the Stevenage game on Tuesday instead… but then thought, you know what – f* it**.
The atmosphere, the buzz, the crowd, that’s what will make it special for him. So, we’re ditching the BBQ until later in the day and four of us (BIL, child, wife and me) heading to The Valley. Football, and seeing that lad light up with it, is what matters more this time. 🤫, I prefer this. The boy doesn’t know yet and can’t be told until he get down otherwise he will drive everyone mad getting excited and talking about it.
Looking forward to seeing you all there. Let’s make it a day he’ll never forget.
Unfortunately the plans have all gone to shit, they missed their flight this morning because of delays at security so not going to the game. Just as well the little lad wasn’t told, he would have been distraught. 😩
Still, it now means that my wife and I are still going but we will have loads of room around us.
Will have to arrange another game when they are down again.
Just set off from home through Beckenham Place Park and had a Millwall type walking his dog approach me. Thought…”here we go”. He just shook my hand and said good luck. It was clammy but it was a surprisingly positive and gave me a bit of a buzz for the game. Still sanitised my hand afterwards though. I’m not stupid
Excited like a child again but gutted I can’t be there as I’m in hospital again. thankfully my hospital is overseas so I should be able to watch the game 🙄 I think Watford are a bit of an unknown this season. Lots of changes, as always, but, like us they have lots of new blood to accommodate and a gaffer who doesn’t have the best grasp of the lingo can’t help with that. im hopeful we can nick it. I’m thinking 2-1 or 2-2 worst case
but I do think it will be a noticeable step up in quality for us and just hope we rise to the occasion too

Get well soon then and hope the performance doesn’t worsen your condition!!
Gutted our lot not gonna be at the home of football today 😪 But it is my great grandson's 1st birthday party so have to watch on Sky and arrive a little bit late for the celebrations. COYR 🔴 ⚪️
Bartrams absolutely rammed and the couple of bar staff are in slow motion. The fans zone rammed and a queue about a hundred deep. Bought a pint of black cab stout at the back of the curbs stand, poured by a girl who is obviously pouring her first pint and failing. Not a full pint but I can’t complain, I feel fortunate to have that one.
Well as long as the speakers don't crash down onto unsuspecting people below. That was so lucky when it happened we weren't packed out and no one was underneath.
