It isn't just necessarily catered towards the people who have the option to remain silent but can't.
A minute of applause can still be an appropriate way to celebrate someone's life.2 -
cafcsinger said:It should be a minute silence not applause. Much more poignant
It's a 12.30 KO and some people because of transport and new seat issues will be coming in until 12 45 or even later and it wouldn't be silence.

Don’t really care(not really), just great to be back in the championship and playing against decent teams.
I think it’ll be a bumpy ride initially but hopefully we’ll click and the road will become less bumpy and with fewer road works.2 -

back in the championship
Players will be fired up
NJ will be like a coiled spring
A good day for 3 points
2-1 and a great day all round
As I’ve said before, I think many Lifers are overestimating our squad against our oppositions’
However, we’re on a play off victory bounce and raring to go so I think we could do well in the first four - six games, even against Millwall. We need a win this Saturday, then another 8-10 points from the following five games.
With these 11-13 points from the first six games we will have a cushion for our almost inevitable autumn or winter slump to make our bid for survival foreseeable.1 -

think it’ll take 4-6 weeks for us to really gel as a team in this division.0 -

We will see soon enough but I feel that, although we are a league up and with new players, we have a defined style of play and momentum, which will help in our first few games against teams with new managers, trying to find their identity. Also, I won't be able to make it and I usually miss our best performances lol. 2-0 to the Addicks.0

We hadn’t planned on going to the Watford game this Saturday, we’ve got a family BBQ in the afternoon and that was meant to be the day’s focus.
But plans change for the right reasons.
My brother-in-law, who does fostering up in Scotland, has been looking after a football-mad lad for the last 18 months. He’ll have him for many more years too, making sure he’s got a secure and loving family environment to grow up in. We’ve been sending up Charlton shirts and bits of merch when we’ve had them, just to give the boy a bit of connection to the club, and we've always said that when they next come down, we’d take him to a game.
Well, out of the blue, they told us they’re flying down on Saturday, 06:30 flight from Edinburgh and will be staying with us. We thought about maybe going to the Stevenage game on Tuesday instead… but then thought, you know what – f* it**.
The atmosphere, the buzz, the crowd, that’s what will make it special for him. So, we’re ditching the BBQ until later in the day and four of us (BIL, child, wife and me) heading to The Valley. Football, and seeing that lad light up with it, is what matters more this time. 🤫, I prefer this. The boy doesn’t know yet and can’t be told until he get down otherwise he will drive everyone mad getting excited and talking about it.
Looking forward to seeing you all there. Let’s make it a day he’ll never forget.
I'm with the old gits in the upper west1 -
This is the time ever since we were relegated from the Championship I look forward with optimism and promotion. Every year I've been dissapointed since last. This year i Iook forward with neither optimism nor pessimism, just glee that we are back to our natural position in the hierarchy of English, from which have risen three times during my life supporting Charlton.
Can't wait till 12.30 Saturday7 - Sponsored links:

I’d love a win, especially just to hear NJ bring up how everyone wanted him out last November! From the fans, I really hope the Valley keeps the same energy we saw against Wycombe in the playoff semi-final home leg. There were no moans or groans over minor mistakes. Just pure support and we saw what a difference the Valley atmosphere can make.7

Surely Campbell is holding his starting position from last year? Surely.

Like Serena and England's women Jones will. be emphasising that this is a squad game and players are as important on the bench as the grass1

- Charlton Athletic and Watford last faced each other back in January 2015, a game won 5-0 by the Hornets at Vicarage Road.
- The last time Charlton and Watford met in their opening league match of the season was back in 1926-27 in the Third Division South, a game the Hornets won 1-0.
- This is Charlton’s first Championship match since July 2020, when they lost 4-0 to Marcelo Bielsa’s title-winning Leeds team at Elland Road. They haven’t lost their opening league game in any of their last five seasons as a newly promoted team (W2 D3).
- Watford have won their opening league game of the season in each of the last five seasons, the only side to achieve that feat in the top four tiers of English football since 2020-21.
- Including Play-Offs, Charlton forward Matty Godden scored 19 League One goals last season, 12 more than any other Addicks player. He has gone 18 Championship appearances without scoring, however, all for Coventry in the 2023-24 campaign, last netting at this level in November 2023 against Millwall.

Negatives: Stupid EFL play-off timetable has stuffed our pre-season, perhaps CONACAF also.
Injuries to key players; Godden, Burke, Berry, Leaburn. Niggles to Jones and Ramsay. Lack of gametime to Knibbs and Kelman. Leading to fitness catch-up. Probably five to seven starters.
Poor pre-season due to aforementioned play-offs with curious selections.
Still no WB cover.
Positives: Watford have new manager.
His grasp of English is tenuous at present.
Many of their forward buys have been relatively late, young, not prolific and probably sell-on punts if they work, rather than promotion signings.
Possibly a dangerous side, but the ideal time to play them.2 - Sponsored links:

They only gave their new manager a one year contract.0

I still struggle to get my ahead around the fact that there were subs allowed whatsoever prior to Keith Peacock coming on but now you can have nine times that on the bench and make five times the number of changes.0
-
I genuinely have no idea what to expect from the starting XI baring Kaminski, Ramsay, Jones, Edwards & Coventry and I love it!4

The early kick off must mean some early commutes for some?0

This is especially for @LargeAddick.
I am reliably informed that the lock on trap 3 is still broken.
But whilst you are in there trying to do a wee as well as trying to keep the door shut with your foot you can admire all the new posters that are now adorning the toilet doors.3 -
