Insurance is also a big factor. You can't get insurance on a player who is flagging as having a major injury upfront.Crispywood said:There’s no such thing as passing or failing a medical. There’s nothing stopping you from signing or rejecting the player because of it. Medicals are there to assess current or future chances of injuries whether they are taken into consideration is completely up to the club. Burke got approved because for a minimal fee and what he can do at his best he was seen as worth the risk even if the medical flagged certain risks. Knibbs on the other hand is nearly a 2M asset. Therefore to spend that kind of money the club may not want any risks coming back from a medical. It could be the Knibbs deal has nothing to do with the medical it could be Reading changing demands although I’m sure if that was the case I’m sure Knibbs would have thrown his toys out the pram and we would have said they changed the deal to give us fans some reassurance.
Could you imagine the millions Chuks would have cost the club if he wasn't insured???0 -

Yeah, but we hadn't a hope of getting cover for flood damage.Horsfield9 said:

Before the failed signing of Knibbs it was looking a very positive window especially with the promise of what was to come. I really liked the mix of experience aligned with the best of L1.
But seeing today that Wrexham are looking to add Conor Cody and Kieffer Moore and are still in for Broadhead at £7.5m to add to Windass and O'Brian, it really does show what we are against. These are all top end Championship players.
I've just seen Derby have added Rhian Brewster to Calton Morris and Agyemang.
Our window has exceeded our expectations but others are doing the same, we desperately need more creativity and quality in midfield.
This is going to be a real fight to the death, so the Knibbs news really is a blow, these last 2-3 signings really are going to be crucial.5 -

Yeah, Sheffield Wednesday are at a Lowe point.fenaddick said:

Defo not a LCB, more of a striker/winger.fenaddick said:
Sheffield Wednesday have 15 days to pay him wages (doubtful I know) before he can leave. Good player but we don’t really need another LCBRed_Chester said:Jamal Lowe leaving Sheffield Wednesday, he’s Jamaican so must be joining us1 -

It makes me think that there are a couple of bigger/more established names who’ve rested on their laurels may get dragged in to the fight. Bristol City and Blackburn are two that come to mind.ThomasOliver3 said:Before the failed signing of Knibbs it was looking a very positive window especially with the promise of what was to come. We’re doing really well and if we don’t get Knibbs, then I trust we’ll find a suitable replacement for him.3 -

It doesn't sound dead.10 -

We don’t even know that we don’t want him.MuttleyCAFC said:I would imagine medicals rarely don't pick up some minor issues with a player and a lot will depend on where the threshold is set by the buying club. But we don't know and quite possibly won't ever know the full facts. All we know is we wanted him then didn't in the space of a few days.3 -
I hope what the new ITK man says is true, he's been reliable so far. If it's just a price, I feel there is hope.
Reading, I can imagine will want to sell now. It won't be easy to motivate a player who was that close to a move and it falls apart, especially when it's a big move.
In regards to him not playing pre-season, didn't Hunt actually say he hasn't been involved because of the transfer rumours and not because of an injury? Not that he might need an operation or whatever other theory
From these snippets from articles it sounds like he's working his way back to fitness and isn't crocked. Sounds like a classic case of playing almost every minute of every game for your club, getting a slight knock, and as a result, your pre-season plan is slightly altered. He's a prized asset and couldn't be risked before a potential transfer, that's how it reads from Hunt's words.

I think we've done really well in our own little bubble, its what others are also doing that worries me now. The championship has heated up over the last week or so.RC_CAFC said:

Agreed there will always be under-achievers, I don't think it will be Bristol, maybe Blackburn, Preston Thank goodness Wednesday are in freefall and Hull although I've seen they've won all five in pre-season.
We've really improved our team, but as I said these last 2-3 will be crucial as the rest of the league is looking strong especially when you see what Brum & Wrexham are doing.1 -
Wasn't there a player in recent years who came for a medical but we found they hadn't done adequate rehabilitation after a major injury... Anyone remember who it was and where they are now0

If Knibbs makes it clear he wants to go and his agent puts pressure on Reading they might yet come to their senses and get the deal done.5 -
The more articles and snippets that come out, the more it sounds like a financial breakdown. Bloody hope it is just that, and a deal can still be struck. As others have said, he really feels like that last missing piece in our attacking third.

So this is where we are now.
The deal collapsed because Dane Murphy looked over the contract and said yes.
Harvey Knibbs turned up at Sparrows for his medical on crutches.Reading agreed a fee of £1.8 million and at the 11th hour upped it to £5 million and a signed poster of Bananarama
The deal is stone cold dead or the corpse is still warm and might still be revived.

Players are insured when they are contracted to the club. The club don't pay for every individual medical bill.se9addick said:

Players have to be cleared at the Medical, for them to then be insured.1 -

They're also insured to cover career ending injury. Their contracts often have to be paid out and clubs don't want this burden on their bookshaff5 said:

Exactly. That's why a major/degenerative injury is such a big deal. Also you lose the value of the full transfer fee.
Knibbs is a player that relies on energy, athleticism.. IF he does have an injury, I can see why we would withdraw.0 -

We offered a poster of the Belle Stars, signed by five of the members, but Reading were insistent that they wouldn’t shift on that point.ShootersHillGuru said:So this is where we are now.

Another ITK person making a fool of themselves. It’s all over X that it was Kajagoogoo not Bananarama, although, admittedly, it’s an easy mistake to make.ShootersHillGuru said:So this is where we are now.
