If it was failed medical, I think they would have said that.. I think something else to it.. sure it will come out of the wash sooner or later.. didn’t someone say there was a lot of activity at SL yesterday?
Also, if he failed a medical why would there be "back and forth" discussions with Reading ? Yes, you might want to alter the fee but seems like a big gamble to take. What, we don't care if he can't play many games if we only pay £1m for him instead of £1.8.

They defo wouldn't. Not fair at all on the player.
Probably leave ourselves open to legal action too.
As far as I’m aware Jones’ policy on dickheads hasn’t been made public.
My guess is that he would say that he would welcome the right type of dickheads that buy in to what we’re trying to achieve… just in terms of certain things.
While he hasn’t used that expression. He has constantly talked about the person being as important as the player. The standard he demands means we’ll never see a player who isn’t giving 100% for the club.

So far we rumours (from fans) for Donley & JRS (unlikely). Is that it?
To be honest neither of them play like Knibbs so i wonder if we will look for a similar player to Knibbs. Someone more physical who can be a nuisance, can score goals and press from the front?
It would be nice to get a midfielder with a bit of height that can impose themselves. Our midfielders aren't very physical and I think we will struggle a bit there against certain sides.
We won't be retaining much posession so a powerhouse type who can keep the ball would certainly add to our game and help keep the pressure off us.
“It would be nice to get a midfielder with a bit of height that can impose themselves” - Marcus Maddison, if he is out of jail yet?
Joking apart, NJ will get his man, whoever that is!!

Just supposition with back and forth.
Us: "Look, Reading, Knibbsy has an issue with one of his knees that requires surgery - likely full recovery but not guaranteed and will take minimum 6-8 weeks before back in training. That £1.8m we discussed (subject to medical and agreeing terms with player) now seems a tad high for the added risk involved. We are prepared to take that risk but at £1.4m".
I'm struggling to believe that a guy who's played 194 games in the last 4 seasons failed a medical.
Is it possible that Reading agreed a fee of 1.8m, then saw how much we paid for Kelman and thought 'hang on a minute, Knibbs might be worth a bit more than we've agreed' and asked for more money?
How do any of us know that the medical didn’t pick up something that has nothing to do with his recent and current ability to play ? Purely hypothetical here and nothing to do with Harvey Knibbs but a medical could pick up eg a heart problem or practically anything that might prove a problem in the future. In any case in the absence of a definitive club statement we don’t even know for sure the deal fell over due to medical reasons.
Reading probably trying to eek out bit more £ late on as he's the last real sellable asset and we call their bluff on it, lot of public posturing their end about the deal which is a little out of the ordinary
hope we can get there with Knibbs as do think he'd be very good in our side but trusting the board
My stance on it is this. Their manager has stated there was a lot of back and forth a deal agreed in terms of the fee but I wreckon they tried to take the piss. I don’t think it’s injury related in the slightest maybe an easy assumption but I don’t think it is. I don’t think it would have made it that far if so. When all was ready to go they must have had a change of heart to aid their own transfer window further and that’s what’s led to it breaking down. If you ask me whether it’s dead I don’t know in all honesty I think jones will want him through the door but at the end of the day we can’t get bullied by little old reading. There’s a few other targets im sure and im sure we can move towards a deal nearer the end of the window I think knibbs will talk to the manager the club and display how he feels towards his future and there may be some movement. To say im gutted is an understatement but worst case scenario we find another target and a better fit.
We have had years of useless managers and owner - not anymore. Whatever the reason this deal broke down, I trust the club and the manager.
All the noise from some of our fans is very odd - would they rather we spend £1.8m on a player who may have potential injury problems or some other problem? Let's support the club and stop the whinging. We don't need to know why the deal is off.
No doubt they will have other targets in mind.
Does this relate to social media, because I can’t see much whinging on here? Just disappointment.
Maybe it is social media, but why the disappointment?
I feel relief this deal did not go through because there will be a reason. Why do we need to be told the reason?
I am glad they changed their minds rather than do a poor signing.
Because we looked like we were going to sign a really good player and now we’re not. Pretty straightforward really.

This. He's a good player who would fit in our team well you feel. It's ok to be upset that the deal fell through. Could've really added to our team and chances of staying up.
This has reminded me of when we were going to sign - I think - Chris Malkin. But he failed the medical with a knee problem and we announced that’s why it was off - and the selling club at the time and the player were not happy. Quite justifiably.
Am I making that up? The mind plays tricks in your late 40s!

I would imagine medicals rarely don't pick up some minor issues with a player and a lot will depend on where the threshold is set by the buying club. But we don't know and quite possibly won't ever know the full facts. All we know is we wanted him then didn't in the space of a few days.
HARVEY KNIBBS AGENT…I reckon this transfer back and forth is all down to Harvey’s agent, just look at him he looks alright wheeler dealer ! I bet he’s just greedy and asking for more money because he’s seen how much money we’ve been spending so far compared to other clubs in the transfer market.

It'll be interesting to watch how his career plays out, no matter with what club that is.

I thought Lionel Blair had left us
Barry was a decent greyhound trainer before he realised where the real easy money is.

We were going to sign John Hartson from Wimbledon but he failed a medical. Spurs also balked I believe. He joined Coventry & 6 months later the Coventry manager (Strachan ?) Called the Celtic manager (Martin O'Neil ?) and said you should sign this lad. Don't bother with a medical because he'll fail it, but take my word he'll be good for you. And he was.

Medical's aren't everything.
In 99% of the cases medicals are everything. You've highlighted one of the 1% cases.
Celtic could afford to take a risk. Charlton Athletic cannot pay £1.8m for someone who might not play for long periods.

his appearance record doesn't appear to indicate that at all. Not that it's relevant because I don't believe he failed his medical anyway.

Doesn't mean he's not been playing with an injury that's got gradually worse and worse over the back end of last season. My point is more that smaller clubs can't pay multi millions to gamble on someone's availability
There’s no such thing as passing or failing a medical. There’s nothing stopping you from signing or rejecting the player because of it. Medicals are there to assess current or future chances of injuries whether they are taken into consideration is completely up to the club. Burke got approved because for a minimal fee and what he can do at his best he was seen as worth the risk even if the medical flagged certain risks. Knibbs on the other hand is nearly a 2M asset. Therefore to spend that kind of money the club may not want any risks coming back from a medical. It could be the Knibbs deal has nothing to do with the medical it could be Reading changing demands although I’m sure if that was the case I’m sure Knibbs would have thrown his toys out the pram and we would have said they changed the deal to give us fans some reassurance.

Remember he hadn't featured at all for Reading in pre seasonat all. If he's played for 6 months with an existing injury an just "nursed it" who knows what he may have done long-term. Previous seasons are largely irrelevant - it's about whats presented to them right now and if Will Abbott has identified something then we'll just have to move on. As much as Reading won't want it getting out - word travels fast in football and he'll struggle to shake it off - like with Solly.
Hopefully he goes on to have a full season somewhere because he is a talented lad.
Whilst it's not great that we've not signed Knibbs for whatever reason, really enjoying the various conspiracy and to why we didn't. Hoping we have someone else in the cross hairs because that felt like the final 'piece' of the puzzle to me, would be slightly disappointing from a squad building view if we replaced Knibbs with a loanee a la Donley, because odds of keeping him beyond a season are slim so we find ourselves in a similar position next summer
