When was the last time all of our top 5 have reached 35 in an innings? Certainly not this season. Disappointing that four have departed before going big but, given that a couple of those are 18/19, that is a positive nevertheless.

Solid batting performance,  though disappointing that nobody has gone on to make a big score.

325-4 (90) at close. Our day but tomorrow we need a bare minimum of 450 and hopefully nearer 500.

    DBD 66* (127)
    Evison 29* (46)

9 overs to get 8 runs for a 3rd batting point and 58 runs, unlikely as that might be, for a 4th.

Easy pitch, kookaburra ball, boiling hot weather. Not a day to be a bowler.

Prior to this game, Northants had taken all bar one of the bowling points available to them so we've done quite well to restrict them to 5 wickets in taking our 3 batting points.

    375-5 (110)

    DBD 89* (163)
    Finch 17* (38)

The kookaburra ball makes a big difference too. Not one of Rob Key's better ideas.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the Kookaburra experiment, just seems to produce draws with huge batting scores

A bizarre idea that changing the ball for a couple of games will change English seam and swing bowlers into Aussie pace and bounce bowlers, and create leg spinners. Especially when the pitches don't have Aussie bounce.

I've been impressed how Finch's shot making has improved.

We've not been very good at batting whichever ball we've mostly faced in the first innings of a match. This game is an exception.

Well done Harry, an excellent century. Conditions are easy, but he was busy from the start.

In the Surrey Durham game, a double century for George Drissell.

I don't think he was that upset to get out!

What are Kent's batters fannying about at?
Only 550 runs off 150 overs on a road
Surrey have taken 740 off Durham in their 150 overs so far? 🤣😂

Need to declare now and have a burst at Notts's knackered batters before tea.

They might have to hire a coach to do that!

Parkinson, in not reading the script, is out LBW for 4 off 21 balls

    566-8 declared (155.5)

Kent declare after a fairly limp innings by Parky. Slightly curious timing, as they could have declared 15 minutes ago and had a longer bowl before tea OR just could have kept going.

Even more curious timing as the umpires took tea between innings anyway.

Captain has to remember he's allowed to try and win matches, grim draws don't have to be the limit of his ambitions...
