Palace, Derby, Southampton, Bournemouth, Luton are some that were seriously struggling but came out the other side.
It's usually enforced as a last resort to stop the club going out of business and is seldom an option favoured by the owner, who stands to get little back of his outlay. Confident fans will always site examples as you have in making it out to be a desirable outcome, but less high profile clubs have failed, Bury the most recent exception I can think of, Aldershot another in 1992.
Edit - I forgot Wigan, who got relegated after their points deduction but have enjoyed mixed fortunes since.
It didn't exist in 1984.2 -
Looks like they’re limited to offering new signings £7k a week on top of the embargo. That’s really going to hamper them

Just shows you how bad football finances have got when a 7k a week cap is considered a hindrance.
The cap is kind of irrelevant right now anyway because no player in their right mind will sign for them when they're not even paying their current players wages.

Always an anxious time hoping to find a buyer though, which although highly likely these days is never guaranteed. 12 points is the automatic deduction now for entering admin, so not exactly better off in that regard.Â

If I recall correctly that had to get favourable results on the last day but they were away to Ipswich and lost. They pulled the pin on administration about 10 minutes before the end of the game.

Chansiri isn't stupid enough to not pay the players who are worth something as then they could legally walk away for free.3 -
Mandaric is no longer interested in getting back into the club.1

Someone will come in and buy them soon . They are a big club and have massive potential despite many their fans being knobs. It just depends on how awkward Mandaric wants to be .Â0

I can see Chansiri relenting eventually but whoever the new owners ultimately are have got one hell of an uphill struggle.Â0

Ultimately I think he's scuppered this season already. DD , EFL tests etc could be the end of August before you got all those done. Even with a well progressed deal I think anyone would be up against it.Â1 -

I'd forgotten the finance plan and EFL oversight aspect of it! , makes it an even more difficult deal for a prospective owner to do. Even the most diehard Wednesday fan with the cash to do a deal would find it difficult to navigate.
Wouldn't be surprised if the DD threw up a lot of skeletons in the accounts too.Â0 - Sponsored links:

I might be looking at this simplistically, but if they can’t find enough first teamers, would they not just fill the first team squad with youth players?
Complete mess of a situationÂ
never been the biggest fan of them as a club in recent years, but would hate to see this play out for us, and their fans deserve much betterÂ4 -

Don't think RvN will make the start of the season , over on Reddit their fans are convinced it will be Dyche.Â2 -
Leicester can’t afford to sack RVN and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a points deduction for them this seasonÂ0

What you don’t want is for us to win points against them, and to have those points wiped off if they go bust.3
