How can we not be encouraged. Slowly but surely the foundations of the club have been strengthened with what to me all look like very good appointments. The owners genuinely look like they know what they want and what they’re doing. It all looks to be very professional and not haphazard recruitment. We at long last look like a stable club with a strategy. Our promotion I think has come ahead of certainly my expectations and I really hope that the next stage of the owners plan include significant on field investment. Next season absolutely must end with us still a Championship club. I have a lot of faith in Jones but we’re definitely u against it. The names being mentioned as potential signings don’t at this point leap out at me as getting us to where we want to be so I’m really hoping there are some real quality signings to come. Anything less could mean all last seasons hard work are wasted.
Well, I for one won't complain if we go up...
Well spotted although I think you know what I mean.

Fans at previous clubs sorry to see him go ?

WTF has happened to our club ? its like someone there knows what they are doing !!!! we are not used to this kind of treatment lol
I think Gavin Carter came to the club with instructions to oversee the senior management team.
    Methven has gone
    Scott has gone
    Others have came in.

I'm 100%  not in the know but that's how I see it.

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce that the club is set to appoint Dane Murphy as Chief Executive Officer.

Murphy will arrive with a proven track record of success, having played a key role in guiding Nottingham Forest to promotion to the Premier League, and previously overseeing Barnsley’s highest league finish in more than two decades.

The appointment is subject to the completion of the EFL Owners and Directors’ Test and the appropriate documentation.

Charlton Chairman Gavin Carter said: “Dane is an ambitious, dynamic, and forward-thinking leader with experience at the top level of the game. He understands what it takes to create a high-performance culture and deliver results. His work at Nottingham Forest and Barnsley demonstrated a clear ability to elevate clubs and drive them forward.

“We’re continuing to build a strong and united leadership team to match our ambitions for Charlton. With promotion to the Championship, Nathan Jones committing to a long-term future, and now Dane joining the club, we’re laying the foundations to take Charlton to the next level.”

ARE CHARLTON SHOWING THEIR AMBITION WITH THIS MOVE ?

Where in the ground is that photo taken? Behind the Curbs?
    It's at the City Ground

    That'll be why I couldn't place it.

More importantly, what school did he attend, and what colour are his trousers?
He went to Choate Rosemay Hall in Wallingford Connecticut, which I am sure everyone will be delighted to learn is a private boarding school.

    I'm fetching my popcorn
Maybe salmon trousers are part of the uniform that comes with the job. I watched the YouTube video that somebody posted earlier, and thought he was very impressive. Seems to know his stuff, would love it if he turned our transfer policy into one similar to Brighton, which he kept commenting on as a really good example of how to recruit. Makes me cringe thinking back to some of the CEO's we have had in the past. Southall and his super duper phone are top of the list.

Some of the comments from Barnsley fans are encouraging.

Is it known if he has he been working at all in the last 2 1/2 years? And if so what he’s been up to (apart from the part owner of Vitesse Arnham thing)

In the interview (which was a year ago), I watched, I think he said he was doing a bit of consulting for other football ownership groups. Also said that he was living in London.

My sources* say he has been consulting with a variety of clubs.

  • Can't see where Rodwell fits in with the Murphy appointment. Would expect he'll be on his way to find another club to be temporary CEO of during a takeover or something.
  • Will he be the man to help "take Charlton to the next level?"
Perhaps, Dane plans to move from the Valley to the top of Shooters Hill.
Nobody but nobody gets on top of me.

The sly (but immaculately groomed) old fox kissed my mum’s hand in Boxpark, and basically I’ve been on a steadfast mission to journey him out the club from that point onwards

    :-)
Funny enough, if you watch the first of the Murphy Forest Youtube videos when Forest lift the play-off trophy Rodwell, or Mr Vegas as we call him, is in the Royal Box.

That's a first, unveiling a senior member of staff via an old photo taken while he was at a different club  :D

Brighton's very successful transfer policy was based on an amazing scouting network (especially south America) and a significant investment in data analysis. Murphy will need to work very closely and collaboratively with PC and NJ. Based on his background it would seem Murphy's strengths are on the football side - maybe that's where he focuses and Warwick takes more of a COO role. Not sure where that leaves Jim Rodwell though!
Yes, he doesn't seem like a Charlie Methven replacement, as Methven's role was away from the football side (ticketing, sponsors, The Valley etc). He seems more of a Scott and Rodwell replacement.

They should have used AI to replace the background...

His CV is good....But he is American.

Charlton and the U.S are two things that just don't go together. We are a proud small club.

Is he going to be sensitive and is he going to be a twitter addict public relations ego maniac.

"Hey ass-hole I've been watching soccer my whole life so stop being such a jackass"

"Oh my gaaad, this stadium isn't even full - whats going on here, and this weather sucks ass"

"What's that dudes name? Curb-ish-ley? But you guys call him curbs right?"
Fortunately he said in one of the videos posted on here that he deleted his Twitter account because it was too much hassle, he's not too bothered by media 'noise', and he generally comes across as down to earth
  • Barsley were the ones that were taking a punt. Look where he was before he picked up that role.
He's earnt some stripes since then.
    Good appointment
  • I wasn't ranting and was not talking in a serious manner. I'm pleased that he comes across well.

All I was aware of is that he is American.

Americans and football don't usually go very well together but I guess on this occasion, that has proven to be an incorrect assumption
