The owner panicked and thinking they'd signed a load of shit, he sacked the head of recruitment George Syrianos and head of scouting Andy Scott. Then as the season went on Forest became more acclimatised to the PL and ended up staying up, reached the league cup semi finals and now look at them. So maybe some of the signings weren't that bad after all? They signed players like Gibbs-White, Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Toffolo, Boly who were still there this season. They also got Dean Henderson on loan.

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce that the club is set to appoint Dane Murphy as Chief Executive Officer.
Murphy will arrive with a proven track record of success, having played a key role in guiding Nottingham Forest to promotion to the Premier League, and previously overseeing Barnsley’s highest league finish in more than two decades.
The appointment is subject to the completion of the EFL Owners and Directors’ Test and the appropriate documentation.
Charlton Chairman Gavin Carter said: “Dane is an ambitious, dynamic, and forward-thinking leader with experience at the top level of the game. He understands what it takes to create a high-performance culture and deliver results. His work at Nottingham Forest and Barnsley demonstrated a clear ability to elevate clubs and drive them forward.
“We’re continuing to build a strong and united leadership team to match our ambitions for Charlton. With promotion to the Championship, Nathan Jones committing to a long-term future, and now Dane joining the club, we’re laying the foundations to take Charlton to the next level.”

Winning at Wembley took Cafc to the next level.
keeping us at that level on the field next season and improving the club off the pitch similar to Peter Varney will be the remit.3 -

He played for VfL Osnabrück which, as my hometown team, means he's already a great appointment!5

Weren't he in Eastenders?1

Interesting Youtube video from his time at Forest.
From that and other sources seems his teams get off to slow starts when he takes over so you have been warned.
He seems to have been active in recruitment as a CEO and has previously been a scout. I wonder how well those roles have been defined at Charlton now?
He admitted to Billy Bean (he of Moneyball fame) that he knew nothing of data driven recruitment when interviewing for the Barnsley job (and he got the job as he was honest) but said he was willing to learn so maybe that compliments or improves on our data driven approach with Chapple mentioning it as one of the recruiting methods used.
He is young but has experience at a number of clubs. However, he hasn't stayed at them for long.
He whistleblowed on the dodgy Barnsley ownership so not afraid to stand up to his bosses, not that I anticipate that being needed here but not a "yes" man.

Murphy oversaw a significant recruitment drive, with 22 new signings in the 2022 summer transfer window costing around £150 million, aimed at strengthening the squad for the Premier League. While not all signings succeeded, his strategic vision helped lay the foundation for the club’s competitiveness. He also emphasised fiscal sustainability, leveraging the club’s academy and global profile to attract talent
22 players signed in one window? Blimey. Strap in everyone!3 -

How can we not be encouraged. Slowly but surely the foundations of the club have been strengthened with what to me all look like very good appointments. The owners genuinely look like they know what they want and what they’re doing. It all looks to be very professional and not haphazard recruitment. We at long last look like a stable club with a strategy. Our promotion I think has come ahead of certainly my expectations and I really hope that the next stage of the owners plan include significant on field investment. Next season absolutely must end with us still a Championship club. I have a lot of faith in Jones but we’re definitely u against it. The names being mentioned as potential signings don’t at this point leap out at me as getting us to where we want to be so I’m really hoping there are some real quality signings to come. Anything less could mean all last seasons hard work are wasted.3
