Deadline Day from Pg.641 - Summer 2025 Charlton Athletic Transfer Rumours

I do think we will add in midfield but I also think Docherty has a role to play next season
He’s better without the ball than he is with it, a bit like Darren Pratley was and this could actually mean that he looks better in the league above where we will have less of the ball7 -
Braziliance said:Callumcafc said:Doc played 40 games for Hull in 21/22, a season in which they finished 19th in the Championship.
Doc played 35 games for Hull in 22/23, a season in which they finished 15th in the Championship.
He’s been there and done it.
I don’t know about anyone else but I’d take 19th and 15th over the next two seasons.
Hull also spent a shit load on wages like you also said you don't want to see us do to secure those league finishes.
If we can emulate their first two seasons, or Preston's first two seasons ten years ago, then that'll be a job well done.
Preston are going on nine seasons without breaking into the playoffs and are stagnating. That was the point I was making at the time.
Two clubs at different points in their journeys.

Docherty is a league1 quality player imo. I am expecting us to upgrade on him.
I think Jones should be club captain and Docherty shouldn't be starting. Might sound harsh but it just worries me how little he played for Hull and he's never really done it at this level.
Sorry to any Doc fans but I'd like to see us sign two new mids to play with Cov.
We should, if we can, upgrade on Doc but the same can be said for every player in the side. You could argue he dropped down a level for a reason but to pretend he never did it is just nonsense.
When I say he didn't do it, I mean he didn't thrive in this league. If he did, he would have been kept by Hull. He couldn't even stand out in League1 if we are being honest.
We need better to progress, harsh but true.
He was kept by Hull, for three seasons, and then like most players at one time or another he moved on to be the captain of a promotion winning team in league one but that isn't enough somehow.
We do need better players to progress but that is no reason to dismiss the contributions that Doc and many others have made.
I just don't get this whole either/or justification. Someone can like both Chinese and Indian food. You don't have to run down one to like the other.
We can praise a player AND want better replacements
We don't have to write off a player, and in this case our captain who did contribute greatly, just to justify bringing in someone better, younger, fitter, more suited.
I believe he was a passenger in the championship, you believe he was championship quality.
Moving on.
Again, why make stuff up just to justify replacing him.
24/25: League 1, 40 apps, 4 goals 2 assists.
23/24: 15 Champ apps, bit part player
22/23: 1940 minutes of Champ football
21/22: 40 champ apps, 1 goal, 2842 mins, 71 mins average per game
20/21: Very good league 1 numbers, 5 goals, 5 assist, 44 appearances
19/20: Scottish prem, 6 apps, bit part player
18/19: League 1, 7 goals, 8 assists, good season
The common theme is, he does decent/good in league1, and struggles to make the step up. I saw plenty of Hull fans say it was the right move to let him go. Similar to how plenty of our fans will tell another club Chuks and Tennai will do a job.
I didn't watch him all those last 6 years, so I can only go from what I've read, and then watched with my own eyes, which is that he wasn't great in league1 for us, so I am doubtful he will make the step up, as he has previous history of failing.
Is this satisfactory and no longer making stuff up?
I've then spent time to find his stats, to back up those views, where clearly he isn't a consistent Championship player, and all his good seasons usually come in League1.
So he has failed to step up, and be a regular, impactful Championship and Scottish Premiership player, the stats show all this, which anyone has access to. Yet I am making this up?
This forum is genuinely fucking ridiculous sometimes. It's at a point where I think select people are just deliberately trying to piss me off.
I've shared a link to a player who I believe would upgrade us, why the need for so many quotes when it's as simple as I don't rate a player and that's it.
With all due respect that's my last post, massive waste of everybody's time this.13 -

I think we can be certain NJ will want to improve the starting 11.
I don’t see Ramsay and Jones losing their places, and Edwards and Coventry are also unlikely to.
We 100% need a couple of strikers and Leaburn to get fit to give TC and Godden proper competition. That’s then up to those 4-6 strikers to win and keep their what’s likely to be 2 places in the team.
I think Mannion, Gillesphey, Docherty and Berry are the obvious regular starters we’ll look to upgrade on. That’s not to dismiss their efforts in getting us promoted or write them off making a positive impact next season, it’s close to a 50+ game season when you add in at least 2 cup games, they’ll all play their part.
All this assumes none of the main starting 11 leave, but knowing NJ will be ruthless and some players will attract bids I wouldn’t rule out 1 or 2 moving on.9 -
I'd be happy to keep Doherty in the squad, but would hope we could do better. He's been perfectly adequate this season in L1, without either being a colossus in the middle or someone contributing lots of goals and defence splitting passes.
Put it this way, if he was targeted by another club, how many of us would be devastated?

This doesn't in any way denigrate the current player. Unlike fans, managers have no time for sentiment, nostalgia or sympathy or favouritism. Their jobs and futures depend on making right choices at the right time.
Braziliance has said quite correctly that Jones has got to be ruthless with his 'cullings' and signings this close season.
If (say) Leonard give us even a 1-5% better chance of success, despite Docherty's past endeavours, Leonard should be the choice.
Just hypothesis and conjecture right now of course1 - Sponsored links:

I think Nathan’s opinion is the one that matters and if he thinks certain current players such as Docherty can still contribute I am happy with that.

Marc Leonard anyone?
Loan with an option to buy would be ideal. Reckon he would start for us.Scoham said:Braziliance said:https://x.com/SportsPeteO/status/1929528197361910167?t=pA6KNsxKkl8I-dZ4uzRvUA&s=19

He has an opinion, other people had other opinions - literally as ever with the transfer thread most of it is just peoples opinions. But then people get annoyed and say you can’t have opinion because there opinion is different to your opinion.7 -
SO NO TRANSFER RUMOURS THEN.3

Heard a rumour that people are shouting in this thread6
