I don’t think so. Jones was the one who brought Small in, as they’d worked together previously. He simply didn’t play well enough at the start of the season, Edwards was better on the left so Small only played when he got injured. Small got given a chance on the right at Huddersfield and it didn’t work, we then tried other options which didn’t work, at Northampton we had no other options so we tried it again and it worked. Same with TC unfortunately, with the big games (against better full backs) he seems to fade, I think he'll find it very difficult in the Championship. There will be more space in behind in the championship. Think that’s a development area for both, they are both good when you get the ball to their feet, but I’d like to see them run in behind more next season. TC did it a lot at the start of the season but recently he’s been all about ball to feet and 1v1 at the full back insteadcharltonbob said:

Doku was out marked during the FA Cup final and found it difficult to impact.There is room for TC to improve, but he is already a very good player. Watch this space.3 -

Nothing Nathan Jones has ever said, on record, about Thierry Small suggests he's not wanted here. This is what NJ said about Small in January:
"The best is yet to come from him because this is the first time he has found a home where people really care about him."6 -
I agree, I'm not saying we never expected Edwards to play - maybe competition for Small at LWB and Gillesphey at LCB is a better word for it than backup.Scoham said:

Most of the games he was substituted was to allow a second striker to come on and change Godden's role imo. Although there were definitely some where it wasn't working for him, but that has to be expected in a new position he is developing in.Crispywood said:

"Regular football"?! The man played 39 of our league games last season, and there's no way we're getting a more explosive player for less than what we'd be offering Small. He should be, imo, a player that we try and retain and continue to develop. He's 20 years old! I really really doubt this viewpoint of yours is accurateCrispywood said:

He was a first team regular in a side that just got promoted, he's young with a lot of potential and he won't cost us a transfer fee. That said i think it's pretty clear that Small is assessing his options, and i'd personally be quite surprised if he stays.2 -
I agree I think if he was staying it would have been announced by now. Unfortunately I think the lad will be making a big mistake by leaving somewhere he can develop3

Hopefully a hefty pay increase has been offered. Get it done and done quickly - this lad will be worth a lot in a season or two. His maturity belies his youth (as I have said before) and we are only just seeing the early sparks nowhere yet near the finished article.

I rarely, well never, agree with everyone saying players should stay at Charlton, go make hay why the sun shines elsewhere cos saying you stayed at Charlton doesn’t pay the bills in a few years time
BUT this fella just feels like if he goes elsewhere he won’t have the fans patience that we will offer him , a few bad games misplaced passes , step overs with no end result and other clubs fans will get frustrated.
Stay here and develop with us because the fans are already onside and see where that takes you .
