    Why do days like this have to end? I’ve got to go to bed and know I’ll have a hangover from hell in the morning. Absolutely worth it though, even though I’m banished to the spare bedroom

    Such a lovely day....saw Chippy after....I even think this time he'll remember seeing me. The back five won the game and probably won the season. 

    Seriously, wish Orient the very best. I was at Loftus Rd in 82 when they were about to depart Division Two (Mervyn Day had a BLINDER in goal). If ever a club....and a London club.....deserves a go back, it's them.

    Hats off to Nathan Jones. He should've been sacked in November. He wasn't...and grasped it 100%. Do you know? He might just be our Neil Warnock. With him...we've got a chance.

    The thing is it ain't just football is it?  It's family.

    P.S.  My Grandaughter (9) (daughter of son pictured) is a new season ticket holder next year.

    I'm so tired but can't bring myself to go to bed and have it end. 

    Walking out into a sea of Charlton fans is something I will never forget. You just can't buy that feeling. 

    And then sharing it with my son, my brother and my friends that feel more like family. It was perfect.

    It wasn't pretty, but it was pretty effective.

    Jones has set us up with an incredible defensive resilience, we have just played 270 minutes of football against two of the top six teams in the league and not conceded a single goal and never really looked like doing so.

    The closest we came was Ramsey's famous double-block at the Valley - which came from a missed tackle by Edwards deep in their half.

    Just look at what happens when the ball goes wide and a cross comes in, our players get themselves between the ball and the goal and defend the goal as if their lives depend on it.

    Sadly not, it was March 1987 in the Full Members Cup final at Wembley, lost 1-0 to a late Colin Hendry goal against Blackburn Rovers in front of just 40,000.

    It was a thoroughly depressing day.

    As much as we shouldn't rewrite history and forget how awful we were at the time (all the criticisms were 100% valid), the transformation that Nathan Jones has brought about since then is absolutely extraordinary.

    Loved reading all those comments again. Can't argue with them at the time.

    Back home now but can’t sleep yet….. you know when I was a young guy my dream was to see us win an fa cup at Wembley and to play in Europe…… might still happen but whether it does or not I wouldn’t swap supporting Charlton for anything….. I love this club!!

    Just a fantastic day - couldn't make 2019 so this was the first time I've been to Wembley for us. 

    It is surreal and I can't believe we've done it again. So lovely to be with so many happy Charlton families and friends

    Weird afternoon, obviously over the moon that we won yet feeling underwhelmed. I don’t think we played well, I think that general nervousness played into the stands (and this was a stadium that felt like 40,000 Charlton fans were here) and the atmosphere was very muted compared to the two other playoff finals in my lifetime. 

    So proud that we’ve done it, about to get obliterated back in south east London, but slightly less euphoric that previous times. 
    I kind of feel the same but the differences

    1. We were the underdogs then - not this game we were expected to win.

    2. The previous two were last minute dramas - the extraordinary 1998 game - you will never ever watch a game with more drama than that. Then the second game with a disastrous start and gut wrenching last minute winner. 

    3. This team did not bring it's attacking A game in all of the play off games but it brought it's A star defensive one. We scored first. We held out until 101st minute. Sometimes games are won ugly.

    For me it was less dramatic but the more impressive.

    We have just played three play off games and not conceded a goal. That itself is amazing.

    I was nervous when we kicked off. That didn't change. Maybe years of watching us f*cking it up defensively just would not let me relax. NJ has created the defensive foundation. I can't remember a better Charlton team defensively.

    I agree it was tight game and they upped their energy in the second half which they needed to do - they were losing but we matched their energy and we could have scored a second towards the end.

    We have an immense defence.

    Finally home and all I’ll say is…blimey…I’m exhausted. Emotionally and physically.

    Sure, it was a bit of a grind at times but we did it and I’m absolutely fine with that. For what it’s worth, I thought the first half was fairly even before that quality free kick went in and the second half was mainly them in terms of possession but all us in terms of heart.

    Apart from a couple of deflected efforts, I don’t think Orient offered much to really worry about tbh and our defence did what they needed to do to get it done and bring it home. You can argue about possession and beautiful football all you want but the fact is…Charlton won and are finally free of this shitbag of a league. That’s it.

    Not. One. Goal. Conceded. In. The. Playoffs.

    Think about that when anyone argues that we didn’t deserve to win it

    Thought it was an even game. Yes, they came into it late on the 2nd half but only because we knew we could see it out. Lloyd Jones is head & shoulders our best centre half & he won all the headers he need to. If I was an Orient fan I'd be disappointed  - they had a lot of the ball but did very little with it. 

    Imo the best team won because we scored & they didn't. And ultimately that is the name of the game.

    And breathe.

    For the last few months, my mind has been pretty much consumed with Charlton – hoping for promotion, dreading another season in League One. Nice to be able to switch off from it all for a bit now.

    Just need to squeeze in a celebratory booze-up with the Auckland Addicks sometime very soon. And hopefully another one in London if we have a pre-season friendly first Saturday in July.

    We end the season how we begun it..... winning 1-0.

    Ironically enough the first two and final two games were 1-0 victories (Leyton Orient being the opposition in two of the games)
