Thomas Partey got subbed due to an injury just before their trip to Spain. Will he be available for the Real Madrid game 👀
Convenient he’s always injured when Arsenal go to Spain, wonder why that is…

He played in Spain earlier this season away at Girona.

    Ipswich 2-0 up at Chelsea.

Spurs and United can afford to concentrate on just Europe now, but Chelsea still need to finish top 5.

It's almost got to the stage where Spurs fans must be thinking "thank God that there are Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton" in the PL.

    Yep, I honestly think they'll finish 17th.

If Spurs go out of Europe in the week, i don't expect Ange to be in charge for their next league game.

Maresca is another manager who might be under pressure soon. With the money they've spent they simply have to get back into the Champions league.

Their only league wins since before Christmas have come against Wolves, West Ham, Southampton, Leicester and Spurs (all in the bottom 6).

They haven't won away since 8 December!

Spurs two points and Man Utd three points above 17th is pathetic.

Think they're both lucky that bottom three will be the combined lowest points in PL history, otherwise could have been one or two big surprise relegations this season.

Gutted that Newcastle have got a 3rd goal, as I forecast 2-1

    You'll feel better now they've got a 4th!

When they are on song, I don't think there is a better midfield three than Guimares, Tonali and Joelinton. And the last named was a forward until Eddie Howe persuaded him otherwise.

Pretty incredible that United brought in Amorim and have actually got worse than they were under Ten Hag.

The thing is you can't blame him too much because they hired him knowing that he plays a certain way, and they don't have the players to play it. So it's surely the fault of the board?

They need at least 5 new signings (keeper, 2 wingbacks, winger and striker) to turn them into a half decent team. And even then i think they'd still be quite a way off top 4.

Think that's exactly what Dan Ashworth told them at the time - and then they sacked him for it.

Maybe they should have gone for an interim and go for an Amorim type when that person had a chance to get their own players etc.

Or maybe managers should be able to adapt their tactics to suit the squad of players they have? That's what Pereira at Wolves and Moyes at Everton have done.

To a certain extent i agree, as you could argue that a manager should be able to adapt. But at the very top level i think you hire a manager because of how they play. They didn't hire Amorim because they felt he'd be suited to the squad, they hired him because of his style of play and how he built a winning team at Sporting Lisbon.

You wouldn't hire Klopp or Guardiola and expect them to play the way that suited their players. The players would have to play their way or be quickly moved on. For example when he went to City, Pep shipped out Joe Hart immediately because he knew he couldn't play out from the back like he wanted his keeper to.

So whilst i hate Man U and i'm enjoying their downfall, i do have some sympathy for Amorim because he has a squad that needs a huge rebuild to play his way.

Amorim also wanted to take over in summer so he would have a fresh season with players he had brought in.

United said it is now or never when offering him the job

United need a clear out but who's going to want a lot of those players??? An awful lot of players they vastly overpaid for.

This is a huge problem for them. Amorim almost certainly wants to get rid of players like Casemiro, Antony, Sancho, Rashford, Shaw but they are on huge contracts.

They'll have buyers for Rashford but he's reportedly on 325k a week until 2028, so he'll surely need to be paid off, otherwise why would he agree to sign for someone else on half that?

Mason Mount still has 3 years left on 250k a week!

Managers have to be able to COACH the players they inherit though. Even if you're appointed in May and have the summer to build a new team, you can't just keep adding the new manager's favoured players without moving on the old ones, or else you end  up with a horrendously large wage bill full of unwanted players.

Carlisle brought in Mike Williamson in September to replace Paul Simpson, and he brought in a load of new players to play his style in January. After terrible results, he was sacked in February, so now they have a massively bloated squad of first team players from both managers, and are still heading for the National League.

I don't disagree with you, and they're noticeably worse now than they were with Ten Hag.

Personally i can't see it working out with Amorim unless they either win the Europa and get CL football which would accelerate their finances/rebuild, or the owners decide to give him plenty of time and stick with him regardless for 2-3 years. Currently they're a mess and need half a new team, and they're unlikely to sign all of those players needed in just 1 summer, so next year will be a struggle again. If they're ok to accept he needs a lot of time then it might work out.

They've tried sacking the tea lady and auxillery staff to accelerate their finances let's see how that goes.

Howe inherited some underperformers in Joelinton, Schar and Murphy but has improved them massively. He then signed Trippier (£12m), Wood (£25m), Guimaraes (£35m), Burn (£13m), Targett (£15m), Pope (£10m), Botman (£32m), Isak (£63m), Gordon (£45m), Tonali (£55m), Barnes (£38m), Livramento (£32m) and Hall (£28m). How many of those ended up to be duds?

Newcastle's net spend in the last five years is £350m but in the last three windows they have actually made a profit. In those five years Arsenal's net spend is £460m, Spurs £472m, Man Utd £565m and Chelsea £784m. Arsenal don't even have a centre forward and will have to spend a shedload on one if they really are to become title challengers. And United and Spurs lie in 14th and 15th places.

Howe would have done "due dilligence" on all his signings. He would have, as the likes of Clough and Fergie would do, decided whether they would buy into his team's ethos. How many are worth more now and in the cases of a few of those vastly more now? In Livramento (22), Hall (20), Gordon (24), Barnes (27), Miley (18), Isak (25), Tonali (24), Guimaraes (27), Botman (25), Osula (21) and Joelinton (28) he has the basis of a squad for the next five years plus.

All United are doing, by comparison, is churning players and throwing managers against the wall in the hope one will stick!

Chelsea spent more on agents fees than some clubs did on players......

Agreed, i've never understood how it just became widely accepted that clubs pay the agents. Agents work for the player to get the best deal for the player, therefore the player should pay them. This nonsense like Haaland's Dad demanding a payment of millions from City so he'd sign for them is crazy.

If all the big clubs got together and said that as of today we will no longer pay a penny to agents, then what? Players are going to suddenly refuse to sign for Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, City, Chelsea, Man U etc because of no agents fee? I doubt it.

Agents also work for clubs who are trying to offload unwanted players.
