Spurs two points and Man Utd three points above 17th is pathetic.
Think they're both lucky that bottom three will be the combined lowest points in PL history, otherwise could have been one or two big surprise relegations this season.
When they are on song, I don't think there is a better midfield three than Guimares, Tonali and Joelinton. And the last named was a forward until Eddie Howe persuaded him otherwise.

Think that's exactly what Dan Ashworth told them at the time - and then they sacked him for it.
Maybe they should have gone for an interim and go for an Amorim type when that person had a chance to get their own players etc.

To a certain extent i agree, as you could argue that a manager should be able to adapt. But at the very top level i think you hire a manager because of how they play. They didn't hire Amorim because they felt he'd be suited to the squad, they hired him because of his style of play and how he built a winning team at Sporting Lisbon.
You wouldn't hire Klopp or Guardiola and expect them to play the way that suited their players. The players would have to play their way or be quickly moved on. For example when he went to City, Pep shipped out Joe Hart immediately because he knew he couldn't play out from the back like he wanted his keeper to.
So whilst i hate Man U and i'm enjoying their downfall, i do have some sympathy for Amorim because he has a squad that needs a huge rebuild to play his way.
United need a clear out but who's going to want a lot of those players??? An awful lot of players they vastly overpaid for.
This is a huge problem for them. Amorim almost certainly wants to get rid of players like Casemiro, Antony, Sancho, Rashford, Shaw but they are on huge contracts.
They'll have buyers for Rashford but he's reportedly on 325k a week until 2028, so he'll surely need to be paid off, otherwise why would he agree to sign for someone else on half that?
Mason Mount still has 3 years left on 250k a week!
Managers have to be able to COACH the players they inherit though. Even if you're appointed in May and have the summer to build a new team, you can't just keep adding the new manager's favoured players without moving on the old ones, or else you end up with a horrendously large wage bill full of unwanted players.
Carlisle brought in Mike Williamson in September to replace Paul Simpson, and he brought in a load of new players to play his style in January. After terrible results, he was sacked in February, so now they have a massively bloated squad of first team players from both managers, and are still heading for the National League.

Personally i can't see it working out with Amorim unless they either win the Europa and get CL football which would accelerate their finances/rebuild, or the owners decide to give him plenty of time and stick with him regardless for 2-3 years. Currently they're a mess and need half a new team, and they're unlikely to sign all of those players needed in just 1 summer, so next year will be a struggle again. If they're ok to accept he needs a lot of time then it might work out.

Newcastle's net spend in the last five years is £350m but in the last three windows they have actually made a profit. In those five years Arsenal's net spend is £460m, Spurs £472m, Man Utd £565m and Chelsea £784m. Arsenal don't even have a centre forward and will have to spend a shedload on one if they really are to become title challengers. And United and Spurs lie in 14th and 15th places.
