Desperately sad news. Michael O'Sullivan, who had an awful fall 10 days ago, passed away this morning. Just 24 and a tremendously talented jockey. It's so easy to forget the risks jockeys take on a day to day basis for the sport. As a mark of respect, the fixture at Punchestown and the Point to Point fixtures at Knockanard, Nenagh and Tinahely on Sunday have been cancelled.

    RIP Michael

I feared the worse when the meeting at Thurles was abandoned 10 days ago after the 2nd race.
I remember his first win at the Cheltenham festival maybe two years ago and the interview with Matt Chapman.
Makes you realize that though deaths for Jockeys are rare it's a high risk sport with most jockeys breaking bones in their careers over the jumps.

RIP Michael O'Sullivan at the young age of just 24.
    Such sad news.

This sport does so little to protect itself and those within it show sometimes show an amazing combination of arrogance and naivety.

Picture the scene yesterday at Taunton. Multi champion winning trainer, Paul Nicholls, has a horse called Shearer, the 4/11 favourite, running in a hunter chase and he has "jocked up" his daughter, Olive, to ride it. Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The issue is that Olive owns and trains another horse, Didero Vallis, in the same race. Spot the conflict of interest!

As it happens, Shearer won and Didero Vallis came third. But imagine if that had been the other way round! The world and its mother would have claimed "fix" and all sorts of questions would have been asked of the Nicholls. It's like seeing Patrick Mullins riding one for his father, Willie, trading at say 3/1, when Patrick, himself, owns and trains the 10/11 favourite - same scenario but the horses are tighter in the market and the favs the other way round - and the Willie Mullins trained horse ridden by Patrick wins.

Why leave yourself so open to such scrutiny? There are enough hunter chase races around for this not to happen and running Didero Vallis in one that is less competitive would also improve its chances of winning.

Five-time Grade One winner Delta Work dies following colic bout.
Owners Gigginstown House Stud hailed Delta Work as an "absolute superstar".

Won a few pound on him over the years, as I used to work at Delta.

    Bloody hell. That's very sad.
A star in the under-the-radar sort of way.

A monster gamble was landed at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

Great Attitude was 200/1, 39 minutes before the race but was backed into 8/1 and won with EASE

5th at 10/1 .. If we can emulate that in the Champ, I'll be over the moon Brian  :)

Seeing that Ryan Moore's son, Toby, is having his first ride as a jockey in Kempton 4.05 (on Godolphin's Valdorica) is making me feel somewhat old - I vividly remember Ryan's Dad, Gary and his aunt, Candy, both riding horses trained by their father and starter of the racing dynasty, Charlie, in the flesh against a couple I part owned all those years ago!

I think Charlie was a used car dealer as well.

Finished 3rd (narrowly beaten for 2nd) but, as one would expect, Toby looked somewhat stylish and gave the horse every chance.

Blowers, in the Exeter 12.30, has won at an SP of 300/1 which is equal to the biggest SP ever recorded with just two other winning horses being recorded at that price. The Betfair SP was almost twice that at 536.62.

I’m a pure spectator tomorrow, to be honest.
Pretty wide open and there’s nowt that screams value to me, other than taking a gamble on wind surgery doing the trick for Nassalam. Quite a leap of faith though, even with the attractive mark.
Course form and specifically the Trial has typically been a decent pointer, so Jubilee Express and Collectors Item, and of course Haiti C, obviously have strong claims.
As an aside, there’s nothing in the field that catches my eye, pedigree-wise, for Aintree. Haiti C’s pedigree is as moderate as that of Intense Raffles as regards a Grand National, whatever he does tomorrow.
Intense Raffles needs to get back to Fairyhouse.
Sorry to be of no help at all.

Comes from an interesting family - Chicago Grey, Rogue Angel and Minella Indo all fairly close relatives.
    Good luck.

Fantastic win for Rebecca C. Almost won it in 2012 with T43 but the home National win at last with a top class steed.
A great win in a lung-busting time (8 secs fast) but he won't be on my slip for Aintree.
Nor will 3rd in the market, last season's Scottish GN winner Captain Cody (a good 7th in the PP Chase this pm). His pedigree also falls way short - he has the mtDNA that was a top-performer in old GNs but has drawn a total blank since 2013.
Entries out in a month or so.

Tomorrow's Savills Chase should be an absolute belter.
