That shows the drug of football, that someone like Hughes would take over a club in such a desperate situation.0

Nothing to lose. They are in a mess now and if he doesn't get them out of it people will say the club was too far gone before he joined.killerandflash said:That shows the drug of football, that someone like Hughes would take over a club in such a desperate situation.
If he does keep them up then he's done a great job.
Plus he was unemployed and now he's getting paid.5 -
Honestly thought he was still at Bradford!2

He surely doesn't need the money though, and could easily get some TV pundit work if he wanted.Henry Irving said:

Admirable in a way.0 -

Agreed.
Mark Hughes is 61 and comfortable financially.
He could holiday with family and play golf, with some punditry similar to Curbs 16/1.
The English out post of Carlisle at the North west end of England and the southern most end of league 2.
The drug and addiction of football that made both Roy Hodgson and Neil Warnock come back for at least one more fix.
I assume Hughes feels he could be the Sparky 🤦🏻♂️to jolt Carlisle out of danger.

Two of the three promoted teams have now sacked managers. That seems crazy to me as the odds on a team getting promoted and then having to consolidate are high.4

Been on a terrible run. Warne has a great record of getting teams promoted from L1, but has never kept a team up, and even struggled this season with a much bigger club (Derby) than Rotherham in the Championship.MarcusH26 said:0 -
Not too surprising, just shows the gap now.
Oxford United needed Gary Rowett who's a bit of a Championship expert to navigate them. Believe they also start more or less, a mostly changed team from the team that won the play-offs.
Portsmouth have had a massive overhaul in their team since opening week. Results have been on the up since.
Now Derby are making a drastic change.
The gap just seems to get wider each season. I think only Birmingham stand a chance of all the teams that could go up this season. All the rest of us would be relegation favourites.0 -

In summary, football is becoming shit!!!!! The same team has won the premier league 5 years running (won’t make it 6) and for the second year running, there is a strong possibility that the three promoted teams are going down, although one might survive.Braziliance said:Not too surprising, just shows the gap now.

the premier league is a closed shop!!
something needs to be done to level the playing field but I haven’t got a clue how this would happen.11 -

Derby want John Eustace as their new manager. That he's clearly interested in swapping a playoff chasing Blackburn for bottom 3 Derby suggests all isn't well between him and the Blackburn owners, And a certain Steve Waggott...2 -

Want to make that point the Premier League becoming a two horse race is the more accurate. (though the two there at the moment aren't City and Liverpool)Todds_right_hook said:

We have some unwoken giants (in Forest and Villa) breaking into the 'top six'. (With Man Utd and Tottenham having poor seasons).
Bournmouth (with a capacity: 11,379) could be a European team next year. That is not even mentioning Newcastle.
** I am starting to agree with that (due to Everton and Wolves rehiring wisely).0 -

It also reflects that he's from the midlands, has played for Derby twice and may well wish to move closer to home. Plus in all honestly hardly anyone expects Blackburn to get promoted and Derby may offer a better salary.killerandflash said:https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cgmyd3p1mpvo

Derby is a very strange move from Eustace.Callumcafc said:

By all accounts Eustace doesn't trust the owners (the infamous Venky's). They received almost £30m for Wharton and Szmodics (27 Championship goals last season) and spent a pittance of that in new transfers. He had a meeting asking for certain assurances (presumably to do with future investment) and didn't get them whereas Derby sold him the manager's position as a long term project.2

I can understand not trusting the Venkys, and looking for better clubs.Addick Addict said:By all accounts Eustace doesn't trust the owners (the infamous Venky's). But Derby are in terrible form, and in real danger of relegation. The window has passed, so you can't sign new players. It just seems bizarre to choose to go to a club with a high chance of relegation, and without an especially big budget either, so even if they do stay up, would be unlikely to be promotion candidates.0 -

Perhaps Eustace recognises that if he doesn't take Blackburn up (they've lost five of their last six in all competitions) then he will be sacked by the Venky's and that might happen anyway even if they are promoted - they refused to extend his contract beyond next July by all accounts so he will be swapping an 18 month contract at Blackburn for one of three or even four year duration at Derby. He's been here before of course - who could forget what the Birmingham owners did to him, when he was doing a great job, just to bring in Wayne Rooney who, predictably to all but the owners, turned into a disaster in lasting just 15 games. Equally, Jon Dahl Tomasson left Blackburn for similar broken promises when he said this:killerandflash said:

"I told the club that it wasn't the project I signed up for. I told them that it was a different situation, not what I signed up for and I asked if they wanted to find another head coach for this project."
Eustace, presumably, has a bit more faith that in the Derby board and is guaranteed a job even if they do get relegated. He is from the midlands and played for Derby for two years so knows about the club too. But, ultimately, I think it's all down to security, trust and the devil he knows.7 -

Eustace won’t be coming to us then in the foreseeableAddick Addict said:By all accounts Eustace doesn't trust the owners (the infamous Venky's). Didn’t he finish his playing career at Derby too?Maybe keen to go back.2

            Confirmed now
John Eustace has left Blackburn Rovers to become the new head coach at former club Derby County (who he previously had two spells with as a player).
Wonder who Blackburn are going to appoint?0 -

While we are disappointed by his decision to leave at this crucial stage of the season, we fully understand that the opportunity to move closer to his family and return to a former club played a significant role in his choice.stackitsteve said:Didn’t he finish his playing career at Derby too?Maybe keen to go back.

Beale is a scumbag and walks out of clubs at the drop of a hat. Hope him and Rooney get nowhere near managing a club againTodds_right_hook said:
