We signed McIntyre for competition to Gillesphey.
Alex Mitchell has the job to fill in for any of the 3 potential CB roles for injuries at the moment.

Still doesn’t rule out a move for Jones as Swansea are sniffing around their other centre backI know people lose their heads in January, but we’re going nowhere because we didn’t sign a 33 year old centre back (that has barely played for 6 months) on loan and it’s January the 7th could be a new record
There has definitely been an exercise in expectation management for this window from within the club. Talk of a bloated squad and player happiness reads as budget to me. There has been nothing said about making a push for the play-offs or addressing the issues with the balance of the squad, just the size.
Actions speak louder than words and, by the end of January, we will understand the true ambitions of our SMT and owners. Maybe then it will be OK to "lose our heads".
The expectation management might be as much about keeping a lid on potential transfer fees paid as it is managing the fanbase.
It isn't an assumption, it is what NJ said, "one, maybe two" additions and reducing the size of the squad. It could all be smoke and mirrors to reduce fees, but I suspect selling clubs aren't going to be looking at our pre/post match press conferences and going Charlton don't have much to spend.I agree, let’s see wait until the end of January to see.Chunes said:mcgrandall said:Chunes said:To be fair to NJ and the SMT, they did what they said they'd do. "One, maybe two signings. But also happy to not do any business." At least they didn't whack out the supa dupa deal phone while under a transfer embargo.

Just went back to listen:
REG wanted more game time so we got McIntyre in.
Nathan didn't say replace REG on the bench!
NJ then said McIntyre is a LEFT footed CB and Gillesphey is the only one we have.
IF McIntyre comes into the team it will be for Gillesphey. TBF to Gillesphey he has had some effective games in the last six but the mandatory mistakes negate his headers and decent play.
McIntyre won't replace Jones and Ramsey is allowing Small to spend more time attacking down the right side and I like the combo between Kayne and Thierry.
Personally I have always wanted Ramsey, Small and Edwards all in the team together but I didn't see Small doing so well on the right and assumed it would be on the left playing in front of Edwards.

Oh yes of course. Hopefully that's one we go back to in the summer because he's got the attributes to potentially replace Chuks.0 -

My mistake, it wasn't that expansive. I appreciate he is LEFT footed and brought in as competition for Gillesphey. I was at Blackpool the other day, so I'm well aware of Gillesphey's shortcomings. My point was, that we only looked to rebalance the squad AFTER selling REG. It wasn't on the cards to bring McIntyre in as competition until we had sold a player. It would have been madness to bring in a right footed player with Watson, Ramsey and Mitchell in the squad.

From what the Colchester manager said they were expecting Tovide to go and he didn’t because things weren’t quite right or words to that effect. @AFKABartram posted the link a few pages ago.0

Not many wanted Mbick and Casey in the first team when they kept scoring for the u21s. We might have paid a small fee for Dixon and he has caps for Jamaica, but he's not miles ahead of those two. If he was, he'd have made the first team bench more often.6 -
I didn’t watch the Orient cup game but from my understanding Dixon played right wing back, is that correct?
Dixon is a striker and it’s unfair to write him off from a cup game where seemingly everyone played badly and he wasn’t in his natural position.
To me, if TC is to continue up front or just off the striker, Dixon needs to build strength the same way TC did and he’d be a good option. But the boy needs time.
And I think in time, we will see Dixon involved, but that might not happen until next season.11 -

Quite a few entertaining opinions flying about, as to what the club is doing wrong.
Reminds me of a bloke who said, 'What a pity we don't have the people running things who could put the world to rights but are instead driving cabs and cutting hair".7 -

In a job where you spend most of your day in close contact with strangers, you have the potential to become a bit of an information sponge and have access to a network of different people from all walks of life to engage with.
I know that comes a bit serious, but that's just one of the laziest and short sighted things I've read to undermine someone's value in life based on their career.11 -

Golfie you would be the first to have a meltdown if we brought Dixon on at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go, and because of his naivety or lack of physicality, fails to track back or gets the ball nicked off him doing a trick, and the opposition score.
I understand a football forum is a place for views. But the strong opinions people have when they have such a small snippet of knowledge and the day to days facts never fails to surprise me.15 -
CAFC last 10 games: W6 D3 L1=21 points
A very good return for the last 10 League games.
From 14th to 7th place.
Unless we paid good money for an in form wide man from League 1 or 2, did we really want to go back to the Steve Gallen list of 5 players for a position and then at the last minute get the 6th choice after knock backs from the other 5 ? Rhetorical question as it's a NO.
Gilbert has played so few game for a 23 year old that it's a big risk and McIntyre has had mixed reviews but we hope they are similar to Leicester fans on Yann or CAFC critics on Simon Francis.
I'm having a real battle trying to be optimistic (7th to 10th was my pick back in August) and we would need the nucleus of the team to stay fit to give us a chance of 5th or 6th.
Nathan Jones took 20 odd games to see width was paramount and Small and TC need to stay fit.
I hope we don't rue the inability to get another player who can operate wide with some pace or trickery.

People keep saying Dixon impressed in the Birmingham game but it was Stockport he came off the bench for not Birmingham. His only other appearances are in the EFL trophy, the start against Orient where everyone was crap and 15 mins against Chelsea U21s.
He was lively in his 5 minutes against Stockport and pressed well but it was only 5 minutes. I don’t think he’s been given long enough in a proper senior match for most of us to have an informed opinion. If Jones feels he isn’t ready, he probably isn’t ready13 -
