Bold prediction: I think Josh Edwards is a Premier League footballer in the next 2-3 years.Bostonaddick said:Anybody thinking we have 6 championship level starters are crazy. Ramsey and jones maybe. Coventry, TC, Edward’s as reserves, maybe. Leaburn is being dominated by shrewsbury center halves. Maybe one day but not currently17 -
Didn’t see that coming!Callumcafc said:

(Nor saying you’re wrong necessarily, but haven’t seen evidence of that sort of talent as yet.)0 -
Get promoted, and the new signings will raise the game of some of those borderline players - same as Gallagher did when on loan with us.sam3110 said:4 players OOC in the summer, only 1 of them feasible to keep (Small) I fully expect us to finish there or thereabouts this season, and if we fall short there squad needs 3 or 4 very good additions to push on
If by some miracle we got promoted, we'd need 12-14 signings
NEW GK, AMB/Mannion
Ramsay, NEW RWB
NEW RCB, Mitchell
Jones, Mitchell
NEW LCB, NEW LCB
NEW LWB, Edwards
Coventry, NEW DM
NEW CM, Docherty
NEW CM, Anderson
NEW AM, Berry
NEW ST, Leaburn
NEW ST, Godden
NEW WR, Campbell
NEW WR, Small
One of the keepers, Watson, Gillesphey and Ahadme would all need to go completely, and even then I think there's a serious question mark over everyone left in the squad if they are truly good enough for the step up.
As you can see only Ramsay, Coventry and Jones I've listed as the "first choice" in their positions. That also gives a squad of 28 which is huge, so I'd expect a couple of signings to cover multiple positions, and maybe instead of upgrading certain places we rely on, for instance, Small, to be a starter, or even someone like Berry or Docherty0 -
Anybody have any idea how Europa league ticket allocation works?
Selfishly hoping for a good Spanish draw for our first taste.

All this talk of Europa League sums up what’s wrong with us as a fan base and a club. You HAVE to be in the CL.5

Don’t think he’ll ever be good enough technically for that levelCallumcafc said:

I think at least one of Leaburn, Small and TC will play premier league. First 2 more likely than TC though1 -

Wouldn't be surprised if he's Scotland capped whilst he's with us. Robertson seems to be getting more injury prone and Tierney is made of glass.3 -
Bolder prediction: I’m not even sure he’ll be a Championship one.Callumcafc said:

Realistic prediction: I’m sure Edwards will at least be a solid Championship player. If Morgan Fox can do it, Edwards definitely can too.AFKABartram said:

If we only have 3 who could start in the Championship we’re not getting promoted. I don’t think we’re quite as far off as that, Small, Edwards and TC can also play big parts in a team who get promoted. Hopefully Gilbert and McIntyre have the impact we need them to have too.2 -
Left footed players are always in high demand , hence Fox having a tier 2 career , Gillesphey having a career .Scoham said:

Possibly but those upgrades are upgrades we need anyway, LCB, GK and ST. I think Doc and Coventry are solid enough as a midfield base to build on, Small, Edwards & Ramsay are probably good enough to play in the Championship and Jones definitely is. I think we'd actually be replacing the same players regardless of what league we're in, we'd just have different targetsblackpool72 said:
If we go up we will need to upgrade a lot more than just a couple.fenaddick said:
Well ideally McIntyre does well enough to convert into a permanent so you're only talking 3 (I think 4 as Leaburn could go) signings, that's pretty quiet for most L1 clubs. If we go up I wouldn't be surprised to see Leaburn and Small stay so then that would be 2 plus a couple of places where we might need an upgradeShootersHillGuru said:
Summer will imho still require a fairly significant recruitment. I’d suggest a replacement for Small if he goes which I expect. Competition for Gilesphey, replace Aneke, replace Watson and get in a GK. That’s without anyone being sold. I’d like to think a striker would come in. I’d say that quite a rebuild.Scoham said:
It would be nice to be more like a normal club and not need 10+ signings every summer.Chunes said:
I agree with your post but I'm not sure I'd call the summer another 'rebuild'. The only players out of contract in the summer are:ShootersHillGuru said:At least part of the issue if indeed it is an issue with this window was that Jones wasn’t pressing the owners for reinforcements. He wanted the squad reduced in size and got rid of players he knew he wasn’t going to use but on the whole was content with what he had left. I think Gilbert being the exception, in a role that even the doziest of fans could see we’re were in need of. I’m sadly confident that we’ll lose Small in the summer and he’ll definitely be hard to replace. Just like every summer we’ll need to rebuild in order to go for it next season but how many times have we all said that.

Improving! Gone from crossing over everyone and smashing every shot over the bar to having a look up, picking out players on a cut back and cutting in and varying his shot attempts, low / far post / near post etc. he’s also doing it on the opposite of his natural side.CAFCBourne said:

Said many times you’re not going to undo 10/15 years of assist stripping and poor management in 12 months , as well as building a structure to work from.
You were even saying on the other forum that supporters should start chanting for Nimer, Farnell & Southall to show appreciation to them for saving the club.10 -
You could have implemented any rule for the EFL but it would still never have worked for us with RD, for starters he would have hired cheap, incompetent coaches to manage the 1st teamRonnieMoore said:

Do we think NJ will have plans to play either of the 2 new lads on Saturday ? I suspect an unchanged side but both to come on after 70 mins3
-
Considering both he and Charlie said we will only sign/loan players that can add quality to the team I would assume they will be involvedAndyG said:Do we think NJ will have plans to play either of the 2 new lads on Saturday ? I suspect an unchanged side but both to come on after 70 mins
The big question is are they fit?0 -
Reckon they're both in with a chance of starting, keeping Gillesphey in the 11 after his howler which costed us 2 points and being in the play off spots would be a mistake for me and I think Berry needs a rest.AndyG said:Do we think NJ will have plans to play either of the 2 new lads on Saturday ? Imagine what the LOLs would have looked like if you'd said that about Simon Francis at the time. Or Neil Etheridge. Or Alfie Doughty and Tom Lockyer right after we'd been relegated to the third tier. Who had Semi Ajayi down as a Premier League player, or Nick Pope playing for England back when he was getting pelters on here after an error? Mason Burstow has more Premier League appearances than most of our best players at this level and above over the years will ever have. It doesn't make sense, I wouldn't rule out any young player in this squad one day playing in the Premier League because sometimes all they have to do is be in the right squad at the right time and be just good enough to not be worth spending the money on replacing immediately.Callumcafc said:

Not sure it would be wise for squad harmony to bring in two new recruits, and young ones at that, for two seasoned pros who’ve got us to joint 6th.ButtleJR said:

He’ll stick to the same 11 with AG and TM on the bench, IMO.

Agree with this, Garry. Players always look better when the standard of their team mates improves. I was saying the same about players in a team that gets promoted. Some that you think won't be good enough suddenly are, when they have a Gallagher alongside them.Garrymanilow said:

It's really hard to predict how young players will turn out. I don't think many of us rated Burstow as highly as Kanu, for example. Alfie Doughty was rated though, mainly becuase of his electric pace.0 -
Personally think MG wouldn't be surprised to be dropped after his mistake which meant we're 7th instead of 6th, the same happened to Mitchell. Competition is a good thing imo, which I'm sure the squad would agree with. With Berry I suppose he's had a week to rest but reckon he'll be subbed for Gilbert in the second half at least.Valley11 said:
