    It seems to be more of the ball leaving the hands and the action beforehand rather than the direction of the ball.
    re the France 'try'

    'Former referee Wayne Barnes has previously explained that: “It’s not about the direction that the ball eventually ends up, it’s about the direction it’s travelling in as it leaves the hands.”

    This is because of ‘relative velocity’, which means the momentum of a player moving forward will also take the ball forward, even if the pass leaves their hands going backwards.

    Should the try have stood?

    No. Even accounting for ‘relative velocity’, a forward pass should have been awarded as it appeared the ball left Dupont’s hands going forward. Whether or not the ball did leave the hands forward or not is the key question, however'

    I've not seen a write up about the same issue in the IRE v ENG game

    What is it with the line outs now? I noticed it in the U20’s. There seems to be no gap, it’s literally a bundle every time?
    I'm going to have to look and see if any laws have changed anyway as many lineouts yesterday appeared to be uncontested - not something I've noticed before anyway. I noticed the commentator say 'the ball wasn't straight, but it didn't matter because it was uncontested'

    Football and Rugby can’t stop themselves from pissing about with the laws. Just sort the contentious stuff out once…..then leave it alone.

    just gives those in charge at the top feel better about themselves and to look like they are actually doing something to justify the money they earn.

    The tackling they feel is on them, its like they are the 1t stone of sheer lean muscle clattering into someone equally massive is not a good look when in fact its why a lot of people watch. It was also always going to happen once the game went professional. Wingers used to be small, little whippets of men, now they are all built like cruiserweight boxers. Same with the forwards, they are strong, strong men. 

    Its the tinkering I also hate, its always been there with union as well. My own experience of giving penalty fouls away for things that the season previous were all good. And there is always the ridiculous "not moving away" when you have 30 plus stone on uou

    I don't think it should matter who deserved to win, the winners shouldn't have to rely on dodgy decisions. There were a few against England on Saturday and they definitely didn't even themselves out.

    I used to be an avid goer to/watcher of the six (five) nations in my younger years.  Now I barely watch it.  I just don’t enjoy the professional game. And the tv coverage sucks. The adverts painted on the grass and the infuriating practice of constantly zooming in and out of camera shots gives me a migraine.

    England didn't win because they were the second best team - significantly so. Maybe lucky to even get a bonus point

    Also whenever there's a stoppage they have to play loud banging music or we have to constantly see the head coach or his staff using their laptops.

    I thought the ref was decent, thought England played very well for the first 30 but Ireland were by far the better team thereafter. The final scoreline flattered England.

    Italy played the conditions much better than Wales and Wales, as they often do, gave away stupid penalties.

    Think some of the players need to have a word with themselves. Adams especially, he keeps hold of the ball they have two more tries. If he’s on his toes when Italy got the ball out of the back of the scrum early, they may not have scored (he made the same mistake against France which resulted in a try). Will he be dropped? Not sure they have a replacement.

    This looks like a game where England are trying to contain France. A couple of better passes from France and they'll carve us open easily

    Look second best by far, fortunate that France's ball handling is so bad. As soon as they manage to get a try the floodgates will open I fear.

    Wondering how slippy the ball is - we've been lucky they've dropped 2 or 3 in dangerous areas, but we've had a few slipping out of people's grasps too.
