Absolutely agree. I'm on the fence about loaning him out anyway because of the amount of injury prone strikers we have but if the opportunity comes up to upgrade the options up front then I'd be happy to loan him out.1 -

Have we ever had next to no rumours like we've had this window? I know we will probably get 1 in but we need 3 defo. No 10, winger and a LCB should have been our priorities.2

Gilbert would be lovely. Jellis would be the cherry on top.8

I said on page 2 that unless we sell Leaburn we won’t sign anyone……….,

Hunter Davies must be a CL reader. From his column in this week's New Statesman: 'I can still hardly believe that in 1974 Carlisle United, one of nature's lowly Third Division North teams, made it into the top tier. Even more amazing, when they beat Spurs 1-0, they went to the very top of the top league. Honestly, I still have the league table pinned on my wall in front of me.'OK, it was only after three games. At the end of the season they got demoted; tumbled down the leagues to the bottom - where they are now unlikely to remain in the Football League (sob, sob).'1

I don't think anyone was jealous that Luke Armstrong went to Carlisle. I don't think anyone actually wanted the players Carlisle were signing here.
From my point of view, it was more so that Carlisle were bang in trouble, and instead of just letting it happen, their owners at least tried to correct it and signed a couple of decent players in Armstrong and Harry Lewis. I'd watched Harry Lewis in person so knew he was a decent keeper and an upgrade.
They went down, and they're struggling now. The point is being missed entirely though. They spent money to at least try, and have ready made players for league2. It hasn't worked, and they're looking likely for a double relegation, which might suggest their troubles are deeper now than a few decent signings?
Either way, it's fast becoming a Charlton myth and a complete exaggeration.
I never wanted us to compete with Carlisles signings, but we were both in a relegation fight, and reinforcements would have aided us, that was my point. Not the money they spent, or the quality of player, but that they were trying to increase their odds.
We are now in an opposite position where we have a squad that's a couple of injuries away to key players disrupting our season. We also have some players who look very tired 60 minutes onwards last game. A few signings, when money can be spent, despite the myths, would seriously help us. If they don't, we will have had to have made some additions in the summer anyway.
No matter what I say though, this time next year, the same old posts will be made. It would just be nice to not see the included Carlisle posts be a recurring theme along with the usual nonsense as it's a complete fabrication and based upon 2 users posting, not a decent % of people saying it.
Apologies to the people who check the thread for actual rumours and seen my clutter.
Petty, petty fucking forum. Especially the last 2-3 years.
I made the point yesterday that there's very fine margins in football, and yes we won the games but Bolton and Shrewsbury could've easily been draws and then the mood would be very different with us sat in mid-table. But the usual forum smart arses jumped on it and decided that i was wrong because 'we won'.
Even top PL clubs are looking to strengthen in this window, but don't worry we're all good and everything is fine because we beat Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers.14 -

People dont like him but Methven hit the nail on the head recently... January is so difficult because one minute a player can be available... the next minute he isnt because the parent club need him themselves because of injury or suspension.
I've long believed that January is the time of the year for the desperate unless you can get lucky with a Ramsay or Small signing which for us has been very rare - We'll equally see over time if 2m is worth it for Sam Smith @ Wrexham, or Jay Rodriguez even, or whether they turn into replicas of Will Grigg... I wont be surprised if either happens, as most transfer success can be down to the flip of a coin.2 - Sponsored links:

Yeah a loan to a promotion chaser in the NL with a recall clause could be a smart move. Don't think we could loan him to say Walsall with a recall clause , I might be mistaken there.0 -

It was indeed mentioned last week that the reason jones didn’t do the prezza is because a player was in the stands watching and they met up after the game - that could also be bollox but if true, fits with the fact we know who we want and are just waiting on the other club to sort themselves - maybe it’s all gone tits and we are in the lost property bin at the last minute again - we shall see6

MickeyBennett said:Friend of mine just bumped into Tracey Leaburn as she was coming out of a fancy dress shop. Apparently she was holding three sets of musketeer costumes. One for each of our new signings being unveiled this evening. She says they wanted to do something special for the photoshoot.
Based on the sizes of the costumes my mate reckons the three signings will be Owen Moxon, Harry Cornick and Jamie Jellis.1 -

I'm not exactly thrilled at the lack of anything happening but compared to windows of the past we've previously gotten to exactly this time and still needed players to have a squad that was even viable, let alone competitive.
It's not ideal but we've been in much worse situations than this.0 - Sponsored links:

Legendary striker, but I'd hope we'd go for someone younger!7 -

23 clubs in League one with the ability to sign players this January and 21 are desperate then I assume?
When we sign a good player we are lucky, otherwise we are desperate is an incredibly pessimistic way to look at things.0 -
I'm sure we'll someone on Monday, but it will most likely be a loan or a panic buy....or both.
For once....just for fucking once......it would be nice to put down a marker, a statement of intent & bring in a player BEFORE DEADLINE DAY.
Others seem to do it. Approx 60 deals done by League 1 clubs. Did they all have to wait for player x to move to club y so that club z could lend us their inept midfielder who has been injured for the past 3 months.6
