MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Shrewsbury Town : Saturday 25th January 2025 : KO 15:00

Back home today, after three matches on the road against some difficult opposition produced shall we say some rather dodgy performances, but was capped off with a good, some would say fortunate, result at Bolton but a win none the less, and another three points added to the total...
So today we welcome Shrewsbury Town to The Valley where we need to make the most of Tuesday's result with another win, Shrewsbury currently sit six points from safety in the bottom four, but also currently have shown some improvement, and have lost just one of their last six league encounters and will be up for today, and fighting for their lives.
NJ has reported Watson and Ramsay are back to full fitness, so could be in contention today, probably from the bench if so, but can see us with yet another unchanged starting line-up.

We've locked horns on 33 previous occasions winning 11, Shrewsbury 11 and the remaining 11 clashes ending all square, Gas was on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture in September 2024 as we claimed a 1-0 win in Shropshire, however Gareth Ainsworth's side come into the clash on the back of a 2-1 win at home to high-flying Wrexham last time out...

Anyway, here we go...

Team news...

Kayne Ramsay returns to the squad as Nathan Jones names an unchanged starting XI for today’s game against Shrewsbury Town at The Valley.

It is the first time Ramsay has been in a matchday squad since suffering a knee injury against Stockport County in October.

It will be the seventh league game in a row that Jones has named the same line-up with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey starting in a back three in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty making up a midfield three, behind the front two of academy graduates Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell.

Ramsay is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Chuks Aneke, Matty Godden and Daniel Kanu.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Ramsay, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, Aneke, Godden, Kanu
