MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Shrewsbury Town : Saturday 25th January 2025 : KO 15:00

Back home today, after three matches on the road against some difficult opposition produced shall we say some rather dodgy performances, but was capped off with a good, some would say fortunate, result at Bolton but a win none the less, and another three points added to the total...
So today we welcome Shrewsbury Town to The Valley where we need to make the most of Tuesday's result with another win, Shrewsbury currently sit six points from safety in the bottom four, but also currently have shown some improvement, and have lost just one of their last six league encounters and will be up for today, and fighting for their lives.
NJ has reported Watson and Ramsay are back to full fitness, so could be in contention today, probably from the bench if so, but can see us with yet another unchanged starting line-up.

We've locked horns on 33 previous occasions winning 11, Shrewsbury 11 and the remaining 11 clashes ending all square, Gas was on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture in September 2024 as we claimed a 1-0 win in Shropshire, however Gareth Ainsworth's side come into the clash on the back of a 2-1 win at home to high-flying Wrexham last time out...

Anyway, here we go...

Team news...

Kayne Ramsay returns to the squad as Nathan Jones names an unchanged starting XI for today’s game against Shrewsbury Town at The Valley.

It is the first time Ramsay has been in a matchday squad since suffering a knee injury against Stockport County in October.

It will be the seventh league game in a row that Jones has named the same line-up with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey starting in a back three in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty making up a midfield three, behind the front two of academy graduates Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell.

Ramsay is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Chuks Aneke, Matty Godden and Daniel Kanu.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Ramsay, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, Aneke, Godden, Kanu

Not surprised after Jones said in his Press Conference that Tyreece stepped on his foot during the Preston warm up and has injured Gassan in the process
  • Allan Campbell replaced on the bench by Ramsay
    That is great news. COYR.
  • Welcome back Kayne Ramsay to the squad, some good news there..
  • Allan Campbell replaced on the bench by Ramsay
Let's hope that's the last we have seen of him.
  • Feels ridiculous really that Luton havent just recalled Allan Campbell, I presume we cant do it, else we may have done given his lack of minutes.

But he's got Scottish clubs "apparently" interested in his signature, and now he's not even on the bench for us this afternoon... Instead we opt for just the one "natural" Midfielder as backup in Anderson.
  • I see their fans got their wish when they said.......

    Play OJO.
  • Got no complaints about that squad at all. Great to have Ramsay back involved and glad no Allan Campbell involvement

Injured isn't he? TC stepped on his foot in training, or the warm up at Preston, and it ballooned up afterwards.
  • Skiing in Maine today…Will follow the game on my phone …COYA

Fair enough, I stopped listening to the absolute drivel that Jones comes out with on a weekly basis a while ago

That is basically our strongest possible match day 18. No excuses now, need to really make the most of this 5 game run. 5 wins would put us right back in it and would make the form required for the playoffs more realistic.

    I'll go 3-0
    3-1
  • Four of the next five (incl today) are at home, now is the time to make home advantage count i'd say...
  • Red arrrrrrrmy
  • Relieved that Small is OK to start, was worried that scumbag might have put him out of action for at least this game.
Agree, made of sterner stuff is our Small, and need that contract extension signing...
