Only two new signings will be disappointing unless they’re top level players. Hoping for a CAM & LCB personally but wouldn’t mind a forward too.2

One or two , I'm guessing CAM and a winger/striker that can take some of the load off of TC. LCB is difficult enough to recruit in the summer let alone Jan.3

I've got a feeling we're going to be underwhelmed with the incomings, interested to hear what everyone's got to say this evening1

I'd rather two signings of real quality rather than 5 rubbish ones.
Hopefully the players brought in are improvements on what we have rather than squad fillers

I’m hopeful any signings can have a positive impact given we’re only after a couple rather than having to spread our budget between several players to plug multiple gaps.0 -

Even Cawley hasn't been given/giving anything specific so you have to imagine we're not close to anything happening.0 -

I was hoping with Jones and Rodwell at SL that they would be announcing a signing4

Sean Roughan, 23 yrs old. Lincoln. Decent. Out of contract in the summer. Lincoln are small, offer them cash now

"In the building....." Modern football wank-speak. Just say "he's signed" or "he's blown us out".0

So, lets get this straight.
Nathan Jones doesn't want us to sign exciting young talent from the likes of Palace (JRS) and Chelsea (Gallagher) because we are just improving players for other teams. And that we might only have them for half a season as they could get recalled in January.
BUT
He is happy for us to sign aging players like Hylton, or dull useless players like A. Campbell (who is a loanee - wtf ?) & Potts (on short term contracts that might not last a whole season....wtf ?).
Not just double standards but utterly bewildering & non-sensical.
Someone make it make sense.46 -
It's excuses for why we've not been good enough this season.1

They weren’t opposed to loans prior to Nathan Jones coming in so it’s clearly a directive from the manager.
For every Rak-Sakyi, Gallagher or Cullen there’s a Nile John, Juan Castillo, Chem Campbell, Slobodan Tedic, Louie Watson…8 -

Old ex players, known to the manager may bring in experience, fill a specific role for the manager (ie coaching), may be cheaper and because they are known to manager are less risky.
Will that do.5 -
I understand to a degree a manager that works in a such a particular way as NJ that bringing in someone like Luke Berry that worked with him for years, understands the standards he expects and can still offer something on the pitch that makes sense. Potts and Hylton I don't especially understand especially with Potts's injury history.
Allan Campbell just feels like a player on the downslope who was good a couple of years ago but has just completely lost it. We've signed too many of those in recent years both on loan and permanent.
I get the whole Rodwell argument of not wanting to "block" academy talent , but the academy has got to be churning out a constant stream of talent that's good enough so that's a big pressure to have. If there isn't an outstanding academy player in a certain position then I've got no problem with a high level loan signing from a prem side.6 -

A manager will be given a budget.
Loans cost money, may not work out, may come with strings attached as to playing time and position, can block youth team development leading to early departures which can impact future advancement of the team and profits from sales. They can also be recalled, which can be very frustrating as you are then left scratching around trying to find a replacement and team morale could drop.
It won’t work all the time and if performance drops off the following season you will be sacked.Mature players will be moving down the leagues as they are no longer wanted by their clubs which reduces the risks listed. They are also a known quantity who can also offer younger players advice and support. Their experience is essential IMO when you have a lot of young players in your squad.
Hylton was bought in mainly for coaching reasons. Potts was bought in because our defence had been non existent the previous season and looked a good stop gap until we could find better. A Campbell had a lot of Championship experience, was only 26(?) and on paper a good signing. Pity he wasn’t good on grass. Jones obviously thought he could get him back to his best, you can’t win everything.
Overall I agree with Jones.I would rather the budget be spent on keeping players like Jones and buying players, but still have an open mind on the possibilities of a loan if we don’t have a player of sufficient quality or a youth player that can step up.I hope this helps.10
