Appreciate this'll get laughed at, but I still think Ahadme will come eventually good
He's not as bad as he's made out to be I agree. Not a good start from the lad but played most of his minutes when we were so poor from an attacking point of view. Think with better service he'd do ok.
I can only conclude that I am wrong & must thank the club for signing Ahadme for a fee rather than getting Louie Berry in on loan.
Alrighty.
Yeah very disappointing we didn’t loan 5 ft 9 Louie Barry to play as a target man.
He’d have been an alternative to Godden, and although he’s been recalled and that could have happened here too, it might have left us in a better position. If there was a mistake then that’ll be the one rather than loaning Barry instead of signing Ahadme.
We wanted that Arsenal GK on loan and it was close to being done until a La Liga club came in for him, so it’s never been the case that NJ is 100% against young PL loanees.
That is quite a literal take on the point being made, that loans can't play a part in success and signings are better. Don't think there are many that are too pleased that we have 3 1/2 years to develop Ahadme as an "asset", as our CEO put it.
Doesn't really matter if it is a loan or a permanent signing really imo, it is all about the recruitment Vs budget. It's stupid to ignore the fact that good loans tend to be integral to teams getting promoted from league one these days. If you lose someone in January, then you have to recruit and reallocate that budget, so it again comes down to recruitment.
It’s how players are targeted - if you want a hold up striker you don’t sign a small winger/striker type.
I never said loans couldn’t or shouldn’t be used, we know the impact they can make from the various PL loanees listed in this thread. I gave the one example we know about of a PL loanee we were after. It was a shame it didn’t work out as neither Mannion or AMB stand out at this level.
I wasn’t suggesting Ahadme has been a good signing or was better than loaning alternatives.
Agree it’s about recruitment vs budget. We’ve done well recently with CBs and WBs, but signings in more attacking roles need to be much better than they have been. It seems to be the roles we’re aiming for with 1 or 2 signings this month, hopefully we can get those deals done. Get them right and we’ll be better and more well rounded team.
Fairly sure Golfie was being hyperbolic to make the point, rather than saying we should have signed Barry instead of Ahadme.
I understand the frustration over the clubs “loan” position but I am sorry with the clubs basic corporate strategy there is (at one end of the argument) “little room at the Inn”.
If your corporate policy means 8 development prospects are already mandated into their 888 fiscal plan just how many “more prospects needing senior football exposure”did you want the senior squad to carry? PL & Championship clubs loan out their young talent for the express purpose of securing exposure to Senior Football.
The same largely applies to scouting non league talent. Much has been made of Kone’s progress at Wycombe but where exactly did you expect to find him development time within our existing group of Leaburn, Kanu, T. Campbell, Dixon, Casey and Mbick?
At the other end of the loan scale it is entirely a matter of money.
If a Championship or PL senior player is surplus to requirements then the issue is how much of their inflated pay cheque can their club get the loan club to pick up. It is then a matter of how many clubs are interested and the sliding fiscal calculation of the days left in the transfer window.
While there will always be interest in players A. Campbell was signed in the last week of the window. Who fiscally blinked first is open to speculation. After 8 barren weeks did it look like we were desperate to acquire his skills at any price?
When this mob are long gone, I'll remember them for 8 8 8, no doubt a term that Charlie boy thought of.

It’s not out of the question. Docherty was written off by many (myself included) for his displays up until the last month or so where he now looks like the player we thought we were getting
Not specifically about this transfer window, but I’d imagine we have had at least a top 8 budget in every year since we got relegated back to League 1. 7th is our highest finish in that period so we have underperformed throughout. We now have now declared a top 4-5 budget - Wrexham, Birmingham and Huddersfield must all be above us and I’d I would guess Bolton would be as well, with Wycombe and possibly Rotherham being close. So us and Bolton are the under performers this season and probably Rotherham. I think Sir Chris had a top 4 budget when we set a points record, but one that was up to 40% smaller than the other three. We show no signs that we could get near Birmingham, Wrexham or Huddersfield in terms of the league table.
On the issue of loans, you do run the risk of good August loans getting recalled, but that obviously isn’t a risk for January loanees. The bad loanees have definitely outweighed the good in recent years. I would hope that if there is a London based premier league youngster who has been tearing up u21 football since August and is probably ready for senior football that we would know about him. I don’t disagree with the general principle of minimising loans as stated by NJ, but I think he is slightly downplaying potential benefits.
Overall I guess we’ve pushed the budget further than anticipated and those with the money aren’t willing to push it any further. Possibly they’d have taken more risks if were locked into the play off positions with a chance of the automatics. If I was paying the bills that would be a big influence on whether I splashed the cash. We can criticise how the money has been spent (e.g. Ahadme), but it’s not fantasy football you can’t just transfer him for what you paid and spend the money elsewhere.
Could be this new midfielder is Alan Campbell on a 5 year deal!
It's "jokes" like this that mean we really need the 'Report' button back on this forum That's some viciously triggering shit, even though I know it's probably unlikely, I won't be sleeping now until the window closes for fear that slow moving lightweight fumbler ever plays for us again. 😱😨

To be fair, golfie is known for talking hyperbolics… 😉
I haven’t lost faith in Ahadme think there is something there needs better service but always gives a lot of effort and doesn’t hide
As a professional footballer you should most definitely give a lot of effort and not hide. The rest of his stats are unacceptable and he doesn't look quick, or strong, or a great passer of the ball and his heading is not as good as it should be.
Did we get a development fee for Gallagher? If so, anybody know how much?
I highly doubt it, he wasn’t our player
we will have done but he was here for such a short time it won’t have been much
We will have got a solidarity payment as he went in and International transfer. So 5% of his transfer fee will be split between clubs who trained him between his 12th and 23rd birthdays.
So his transfer fee was rumoured at £34M. 5% would be £1.7M. We had him for 6months so, £1.7M divided by 22 means we would have got c£77K I guess.

More like 6 6 6 Elfs...😈

This wouldn't surprise me if it happens. Assuming his foot injury isn't a break.
He's a striker, that doesn't strike.
Hopefully it's a loan with a view to a permanent if that's the case. We should genuinely cut our losses if we can.
