MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Reading : Saturday 4th January 2025 : KO 15:00
Reading are the visitors and are currently sitting in one of the top six, at No5, having won the last three like us, the royals come into the clash on the back of a 3-1 triumph at Cambridge United on New Year's Day, and it has to be said are having a good season so far, so we will again have to be at our game to come away with the 4th win on the spin and the three points needed to get us up there within touching distance of the top six.
After the debacle of Crawley and the postponement, we have two games in hand on 6th and really need to make them count.
We've met on 47 previous occasions, winning 16, the Royals 20 and the remaining 11 matches producing draws, Reading ran out 2-0 victors in the reverse fixture back in August 2024.
Sounds like Reading have sold out, and will expect good vocal support from the JS stand, but not enough to outdo us, eh...
So, here we go COYR...
Team news..
Nathan Jones has named an unchanged starting XI for this afternoon’s game against Reading at The Valley.
It is the same side that has started in the Addicks' three previous wins against Northampton Town, Cambridge United and Wycombe Wanderers.
Meanwhile, Chuks Aneke returns to the bench in place of Danny Hylton for his first appearance in a squad since the Addicks' victory over Birmingham City in October.
It means the Addicks will line up with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer.
Thierry Small and Josh Edwards line-up as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty operating as a midfield three behind Miles Leaburn, who has six goal contributions in the last three games, and Tyreece Campbell.
Aneke joins Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Allan Campbell, Gassan Ahadme and Matty Godden on the bench.
Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Docherty (c), Coventry, Berry, Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell
Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A.Campbell, Ahadme, Aneke, Godden

I'm here for my first game in a while. Quite excited actually. Leaburn to net again is my bet!9

Lad just came past Westcombe Park station, reports around 50 Reading just got off the train beered up and heading for the Angerstein1

Just seen on Twitter that Chuks is there and in his tracksuit. Doesn’t guarantee he’s in the squad but backs up he must be fit0

Thanks for the heads up. Will round up the boys and head down there.Alwaysneil said:Lad just came past Westcombe Park station, reports around 50 Reading just got off the train beered up and heading for the Angerstein10 -
My first game since the Mansfield match, having played truant over Christmas and missed some wins.
Despite leaving home in sub-zero temperatures I've actually made it to the tropical climate of the south; I'll leave the saftey and warmth of the car shortly to stroll down to the ground.1 -

Can't wait to see us Chuck Chuks on to salvage a point in the last 152

Just want to say... Harsh on Hylton!!

For all the talk of signing Reading players, I'd love to see us try and get Pereira
One of the best Goalkeepers I've seen us up against this season
Although to be fair there have been a few that we've not really seen, because we've not tested them
At least we know where Kanu has gone2 -
No Hylton must please a few people!0
-
Welcome back into the fold Chuks"The Invisible Man"Aneke...👍0
-
I'm hoping we sign a pacey wide player this month as that's missing from the bench. Glad to see Aneke over Hylton (though he's arguably been better than Ahadme!).1

Had rather hoped that Bindon would be "injured" pending a move.0

Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A. Campbell, Ahadme, Aneke, Godden

Subs: Button, Rushesha, Wareham, Holzman, Ahmed, Sackey, Osho1 -
Think Kayne Ramsay was doing sprints just now as an unselected substitute

Again a rather unbalanced bench, if Miles goes off there are two potential replacements, but no pacey runner if T Campbell goes off.0

salvage a Chuks , hardly used or almost new.😂🤣😂sam3110 said:Can't wait to see us Chuck Chuks on to salvage a point in the last 150 -
