Didn’t actually think he was great first half, but can’t argue with the second half performance. That second goal is one of the best an academy product has ever scored for us in the league.Exiled_Addick said:Was brilliant today. Worked his nuts off, showed his power, pace, and aggression, and his finesse. Two good goals, for different reasons. The difference between what he offered and what Ahadme did from the bench was stark.
We absolutely cannot afford to sell him in January.0 -
Think like Dobson last Jan Jones won’t let him be sold3

Money certainly talks and I’m sure if a good offer comes in he will be gone but if we don’t have a good replacement lined up that would be a shame as we don’t have enough up front to push for promotion with him gonebobmunro said:fenaddick said:Think like Dobson last Jan Jones won’t let him be sold
It won't be Jones' call if the money is right.2 -
Don’t think the celebration for the lobbed goal was that of someone who wants out14

Worked hard first half, kept the two centre backs busy mostly in his own, won some headers, held the ball up. Decent first hold from him, imo. Difference second half was he got two chances and took them both, which elevated his performance.se9addick said:

Yeah I don’t want to dwell on the negatives too much, I just thought he looked a little flat footed first half and didn’t actually think he won as many headers as he could/should have. But when he puts in a performance like he did in the second half, partially that wonderful second goal, then I have no complaints!Exiled_Addick said:

Maybe the defender holding him non-stop held him backse9addick said:

Luckely the wycombe players complaining to the ref about the second goal he missed booking Leaburn for his celebration for leaving the playing surface, which ment his yellow card later on he would have been sent off.0

On the commentary they made it sound like he got a yellow, not that he should have, so I was a bit mystified why he didn’t get a red later.Dansk_Red said:Luckely the wycombe players complaining to the ref about the second goal he missed booking Leaburn for his celebration for leaving the playing surface, which ment his yellow card later on he would have been sent off.0 -
Fair play to the ref for not booking him as well (about the only thing he did right). Especially as Leaburn then got a yellow card for a foul later onse9addick said:
Best celebration at the Valley for years. The kids he ran over to in the East Stand looked thrilled for ages afterwards.fenaddick said:Don’t think the celebration for the lobbed goal was that of someone who wants out0 -
Will be sold in January but will be able to keep him until end of season2
-
He still has a lot more to offer Charlton but with better players around him he can play a higher much higher grade of football.NabySarr said:Those writing him off as he was building his fitness and sharpness back up look a bit silly now. Can’t expect a player to come back after a year off and hit the ground running, great to see him back to his best now. 4 goals 2 assists in 3 games
An English striker with the power to score goals is worth money and a lot of money at that.1 -
that’s not a yellow card anyway (or if it is, it’s never enforced)Dansk_Red said:Luckely the wycombe players complaining to the ref about the second goal he missed booking Leaburn for his celebration for leaving the playing surface, which ment his yellow card later on he would have been sent off.0 -
Need to keep him until the end of the season and then make a decision.1

If Leaburn had been booked then he probably doesn't commit the foul he did get booked for.NabySarr said:

I'll be amazed if Leaburn is still here at the end of this transfer window. For one simple reason. His pay packet.
He must look at his old mate from the youth team, Mason Burstow and think I want some of that.
Despite Leaburn always being a better long term prospect in view of his size and strength, he has watched as Burstow signed on for Chelsea for a pay packet of about £10k a week and already made a small fortune in the period since he left.
Leaburn wouldn't be human if realising he could quadruple his pay packet by leaving he didn't want to follow in Burstows footsteps.
Modern football sucks but that's the reality.2 -
Does he have a release clause?Fortune 82nd Minute said:I'll be amazed if Leaburn is still here at the end of this transfer window. For one simple reason. His pay packet.

If he’s smart, he’ll realize that if he gets this stage of his development right, he can go on to start games regularly in the Premier League and earn far far more than $10k a week for years to come. Make the jump to a premier league academy too soon and he could easily get lost in the numbers and stagnate/go backwards.5
-
Which can be argued is happening to Burstow with 3 goals in 35 games for Sunderland and Hull.Exiled_Addick said:If he’s smart, he realize that if he gets this stage of his development right, he can go on to start games regularly in the Premier League and earn far far more than $10k a week for years to come. After being out for so long maybe Leaburn will just want to be playing games and scoring goals for now even if just for the rest of the season which isn't guaranteed if he moves on now.5 -
But he's not going to stagnate or go backwards. He's shown today that fully fit and committed he can play at a much higher level.Exiled_Addick said:If he’s smart, he realize that if he gets this stage of his development right, he can go on to start games regularly in the Premier League and earn far far more than $10k a week for years to come. Sure he needs to pick his PL club carefully. Chelsea and Man City, for example, would probably see him struggle to hold down a place in the first team squad. But go somewhere like Brentford or, God forbid, Palace and that would quickly see him around the matchday 18 man squad.
Just enjoy him while we can.

The risk for Leaburn is that whilst he is on the cusp of a big deal, after 1 year out with the hamstring, he is only 1 further bad injury away from being potentially written off injury-wise and following the Solly path.0
-
And that's another reason why Leaburn must surely be looking to move on now.paulsturgess said:The risk for Leaburn is that whilst he is on the cusp of a big deal, after 1 year out with the hamstring, he is only 1 further bad injury away from being potentially written off injury-wise and following the Solly path.
Grab say a 3 year deal on £10k a week somewhere else, then even if he gets another serious injury with his future relatively secured he can just "do a Chuks" for the rest of his contract.0 -
Think Leaburn is a far better and complete prospect than Burstow was. Would expect clubs to wait for the summer though with his injury history

Despite my concern, that interview makes me feel good about him being with us for a whileScoham said:3 -
His current contract must be pathetic. It was signed when he was a kid, and I assume the extension we triggered is on similar terms.1

Although still probably not what he’s worth, contracts for young players will usually include clauses that move him up to a higher wage after X amount of games so he’s probably on an ok wagekillerandflash said:His current contract must be pathetic.
