    His Guinness supply might be back to normal at The Bugle but that is not the norm yet across the industry. I work for a brewery and we have been on two thirds of what we would normally get since early December and same will apply to next week’s order. As for shelf life Guinness will not go off in a few days unless not stored at the correct cellar temperature but that goes for any beer especially Cask Ales.

    This 100 times although we used to pour it in 3 stages when I was working in pubs. Most bar staff fill it half - 3 quarters leave it for 10-20 seconds & fill it up. Useless !

    Interestingly, the most seasoned Guinness taster would find it difficult to distinguish any difference in a good pint served in Dublin versus a good pint served anywhere in the UK.

    And if that pint in the picture was assessed by a representative of the brewer, they would be either reviewing the gas mix or training the bar staff on how to pull a good pint - that head is far to large.

    I would say the ideal head would be halfway between the top of the harp and the top of the glass.

    20mm is the benchmark head size. That picture looks pretty much spot on.

    Just to add, my Christmas pudding recipe needs Guinness and I couldn't find any here in Spain. I thought no more of it but it did make me wonder.

    This may not be relevant to you, but many non-Guinness drinkers are interested in which pubs serve "good" Guinness.

    It is the Guinness drinkers in a group of friends that will often choose where that group goes, as the Guinness drinkers will typically not go to pubs that they know don't do a good pint, and so the non-Guinness drinkers invariably drink in good Guinness pubs...

    I've got a couple of cans in the fridge.

    Any day now I'm expecting to see one of those charity adverts on the TV - "Barry has to walk 5 miles to find his nearest pub selling Guinness , please help" - so will donate them then.
