Club comms during this period
Shouldn't there be more sensitivity to just how bad the 'product' is?
These 2 games, in the cheap seats, would normally cost me £53 with online booking. For £30 for both i just might have considered it- so that's around a 40% reduction i'd need. Really, i have a decent book to read and some limited family time i'd rather do anyway, but point stands- These jolly Xmas messages are as welcome as a half and half scarf right now.
If i have a question it's who writes them and who the frig signs them off?

If you were the marketing person at Charlton how would you try to sell the product over the Xmas period to try and drum up some
business?5 -

Advertising has to be legal, decent, truthful and honest.
"Thrilling" and "must-see" are descriptions which are, by their very nature, breaches of advertising regulations.5 -
I’d be emphasising value (if there was any) and the importance of supporting the team, the opportunity to get out over Christmas, etc. Telling people it’s exciting when it manifestly isn’t is foolish.31

What to buy the family member you truly hate...21

Suspect the strategy was planned before the season started, probably needs a review but they're a bit stuck0

"Family members you hate, but you need to buy them a gift? Ruin their Saturday afternoon by buying them a ticket for a bore-fest of the lowest quality, and if you really hate them with a passion, our half season tickets are still available, and unlike our players, our prices are competitive".
Comms team.

Perhaps they could promote us to rugby fans, as we also pass sideways and backwards, before kicking it long into touch.15

This is about the positioning more than it’s about the value proposition.4 -
The problem is as they say, you can't polish a turd. If you accept it is a turd it doesn't help really. The problem for comms is they are helpless marketing a turd until it no longer is one. I suppose if they were honest they would lose their jobs and they are paid to try even if it isn't possible. I feel for them a bit in all honesty.6

People frown at that sort of thing don’t you know…9 -

Want to get away from the crowd this Christmas?
Then come to The Valley on matchday.
Put yourself in the mood for a snooze by watching the game for 5 minutes.
Need an hour to kill? Then queue for a drink at one of our outside bar areas.8 -
They describe the catering as ‘delicious’ when in my (admittedly limited) experience it is vile.
And way overpriced.4 -

I do have a genuine dilemma this Christmas. I've 5 friends coming from Canada for the Holiday, and a couple have been to Charlton before. They've told me they want to go to a game whilst here, and as a season ticket holder, the obvious is to bring them to a game on the 29th or the 4th when they are still here. They would feel absolutely fooled with some of this advertising....
However, we live in Bromley, and they've started mentioning about going to Bromley, I want them to enjoy their time at the football, and honestly, I wonder whether the "product" there would be better for them...
What would you do?
(They've also mentioned Chelsea, but doubt they'd be able to get tickets there)0 -
"Too much Turkey on xmas day ? Had enough of the inlaws ? Why not get away from them & get down to The Valley where you can moan as much as you like & wont get in trouble".
7 -
All they need to say is we beat Portsmouth in a pre season friendly, and the crowds will come flocking in.1
-
Not enough Turkey on Xmas day, turn up at The Valley for a poultry offering on a pudding of a pitch.6
