Although slightly of key I want to praise the stewards at the match who were extremely helpful.
They even went out of their way to get me a programme.8 -
Folk mentioning TC as our only wide player but for reasons unknown, most of this season he’s been played as a striker. We’re still waiting for his first league goal this season..2

In reality, I doubt he was pleased with our business, but he can't really say to the players we had signed or the players we already had and say they were 2nd or 3rd or worse choice for us.
I'm not happy with where we sre, Jones is clearly aware we are not where we should be, he keeps telling everyone we're not good enough, the players aren't performing etc. Imo he is sending a message to the board, if he hasn't already discussed it with them.
A bit like not recruiting any wingers and then converting our one remaining winger into a central forward, who has scored zero and I think assisted zero.
He was happy to sell the league's top goal scorer as he wanted a big front man and signed Ahadme and Godden.
His last chance to get in a creative midfielder brought us A Campbell, Potts and Hylton.
All look very poor decisions at the moment.25 -
Nothing wrong with the box, but you need:-
a) full backs that get over the HW line and
b) the two behind the strikers not being CDMs
We might have 9 players injured but realistically only Jones, Ramsay, and perhaps Mannion would walk into the side. A case for TC or Kanu if the Leaburn/ Gooden partnership doesn't beat fruit.
Perhaps Anderson does need a loan but currently he is the best candidate for b) above. Berry is looking a bit Kirkesque.1 -

Question is, which of our currently underperforming squad do we honestly think has the potential to transform themselves and the team to become promotion contenders? Jones, Ramsay, and Leaburn are the only 3 I can see. Not the goalies. None of the midfielders and none of the other strikers seem to have that potential.
That is why it is grim.4 -

In any team you normally have a few players that you notice every game. At the final whistle you know that they were playing in the match. We have too many that go unnoticed. At the full time whistle this season most games I can’t remember anything the likes of Doc, Campbell and Berry have done4

To expand on my post above, when we get at least one more striker out of Will's clutches, I'd like to see us line up in a diamond as follows:-
Fit keeper
Asiimwe A Mitchell Edwards/Jones Small
Coventry
Anderson TT
Godden
Leaburn Campbell/Kanu/Ahadme/Dixon (in that order)
That gives us two attacking full backs who can cross, a mobile front line and the experience of Mattie to link play. Surely can't be worse than what we are seeing?
Is Jones back training? 8 weeks for a stress fracture seems pessimistic. Will it be 7 weeks for Peterborough? Not sure fitness requirements are as taxing for a CB. Can't imagine Ramsay back before Feb if he has a MCL.
And lets get Kedwell or Enslin on the bench, and Mbick for Hylton when he's fit (Micah not Danny, Hylton will never be) and Dixon guaranteed at least a plce on the bench.

Found an article in the Guardian (by Jonathan Wilson) talking about Nuno's resurrection at Forest....... and Forests' resurrection too........... finding a simple solution playing direct to a target man......
'None of this is especially complicated. They don’t press high; they sit deep, letting their central midfielders drop towards the back four, creating the space that can be exploited by the wide men. The logic of the pioneers of modern pressing, Arrigo Sacchi and Johan Cruyff, was that you kept the team compact because that reduced the amount you had to run and meant passes tended to be short and therefore relatively easy to complete. However, a big centre-forward thrives on direct play, in effect allowing the midfield to remain deeper and retain a compact shape at the back. There is a danger he could be isolated, but the pace and dynamism of the three more advanced midfielders negate that.
Forest have had the third-lowest possession in the league this season – but it works. Or at least, works for them. A club with a more heightened sense of self-worth might insist on having more of the ball, on something more sophisticated, but simplicity has its own charm. Nuno took Wolves to promotion and then to two seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and, although there was a downturn in his fourth season, leading to his departure, they still finished 13th.
Perhaps he was not right for Spurs; a lot of managers aren’t. Spurs should not necessarily feel regret. But that did not mean Nuno was right for nobody. He kept Forest up last season despite their points deduction and, having found a workable system, is reaping the benefits now. Everything in football is contingent, and in the context of Forest, Nuno is back on his steed and, in his understated, diffident way, charging again.'
I freely admit to not knowing much about tactics but the bit about the midfield playing deeper and retaining a compact shape with a big centre forward rings a bell.......... but the bit about the pace and dynamism of the more advanced midfielders doesn't ring bells so much. Is it our lack of dynamism and pace causing us to be second in the race for second and 50/50 balls......? I appreciate we need more creativity in midfield but we don't seem to have very much pace, we're too often looking like we're slow off the mark...... is that pace or maybe anticipation?

A. M-B: 5 Ropey with crosses and coming off his line. Death, taxes, and AMB. Bless.Z.MITCHELL: 4 - it's hard to say he did a lot wrong that isn't covered by "this is his first league start at RB, and like his fourth start in League One total." A promising player, but lacks the posotional awareness for RB and doesn't have the pure athleticism of a Konsa or Gomez to make up for it.COVENTRY: 5 - Not his day, I worry he's struggling with two holding midfielders. He and Taylor sometimes look like they get in each other's way, and the areas they take up are either crowded, or teams sit off them knowing that the four players in front of them don't want the ball into feet in tight spaces. He gets stick for always going square, but in fairness to him, there just isn't anything on. It's narrow and teams just kill the space on the inside. Until we get more in front of the two holders we aren't going to do shitDOCHERTY: 4 - I don't get him.
He runs around a fair amount but doesn't make many tackles. He's OK in possession but not decisive. He doesn't really look like scoring. He doesn't play the killer ball. He's like a rhythmic passer who keeps things ticking over but we have two better options at the double 6. Campbell is better at the harem scarem running around. Dock is just kind of thete, except he drifts out of games badly.A.CAMPBELL: 5 - I mean he runs around a lot and wins the ball back but he's shit with the ball at his feet. Guess we should give credit to Millwall fans who all seemed to think he was terrible. He's our only loan signing ffs. And he's 28 and a grafter. No wonder we're mid table.LEABURN: 6.5 - I think did about the best he could with what he was given, which can generously be described as scraps. Because of our lack of width and creativity he has to drop off or pull out wide to look to provide that, which means he isn't in the box if crosses do miraculously come in.GODDEN: 4.5 - He's really a poacher with a team that doesn't create much. Missed one where he should have at least hit the target. But it wasn't as easy as some said in the match report. No quick enough to press effectively. Undoubtedly handsome.
I wasn't as down on selling May as some were, I get getting a huge profit on a player the wrong side of 30, but May's pace and creativity would be a real help this season.
This is a team playing with two #10s that starts zero number 10s. There's no width, and Berry is the only midfield player who looks even slightly comfortable turning in tight spaces. Campbell ain't it.
It is absolutely no coincidence that this team looks better with Karoy in it. He presses well and plays on the turn looking to drive the ball forward. He's not perfect but he's our only Midfielder with a balance of ability on the ball and energy in the press.
So we did all that business early in the summer. Sold last year's best player. And ended up relying on a talented but still raw 20 year old from the academy to be the heart of our midfield.
I'm not Jones out at this stage, but I am Jones doesn't get to do transfers anymore. There's a reason why everyone worth a damn uses the DoF to do their transfers, it provides balance and oversight. Instead we got Jones' mates, and we have a desperately one dimensional team.
I really hate long ball football, but I'm basically at a point of "go back to 3-5-2 and lump it to Miles and Gas." I mean that's what this team is built for. It just wasn't built well enough for that, but it's definitely not built well enough to play football through the lines.0 -

I couldn't fecking believe that miss and still can't. Of all the people who that chance could have fallen to I would have wanted it to be Matty. I would have bet my house on him scoring. He had even done the hard bit of waiting for the ball to drop and keeping his composure, where so many others usually panic.
But hey ho, all strikers miss chances and we will never know if Alfie would have scored it.
It was just such a crucial moment and despite the frustrating error strewn performance we had a bit of momentum at that point and had he scored I wouldn't have ruled us out of going on to win it.

As we shuffled along to the exit after the full time whistle, I really felt uncomfortable with the dogs abuse some of our fans were giving the players.
I mean don't get me wrong. In the ebb and flow of a game and particularly with the frustrating and mediocre crap we are serving up these days I will call the players every cnut in the world during the game.
But once the final whistle has blown and the players are coming over basically to say thanks for coming out to support us, I'll clap back because to acknowledge their appreciation.
They didn't set out to lose, they didn't deliberately play crap.
Swear to yourself, shout out your frustration to the skies, but don't spit bile in the face of the players wearing our shirt.
I realise it was a minority and it's hardly a new thing.
Maybe it was because I happened to be right down the front, looking up at Alex Mitchell and seeing his discomfort. It wasn't right24 -

After a days reflection I guess the thing I'm most disappointed in is that again we look like a team without any nouse or street smarts and I was sure that NJ would install that into his squad especially after a full pre season with them. He's a experienced coach at this level I'm just not understanding what he's trying to do to be honest with these tactics.4

For Cafc: Gilbey scored 11 in 60 matches.
For MK Dons: 18 goal in 60 matches. League 2 so maybe he has found his level.
Bizarrely the home game against Ipswich when he averages something like 8.8 on the players marks was his highlight but after that his game dropped off and after his ridiculous two yellow cards for shirt pulling in the 1st half of a game at the valley which we lost I resigned as secretary of his fan club; It was mainly just his family !
