Havertz looked level with one defender, whilst there was another defender on the line from when I saw itGisappointed said:Another VAR mistake today. The bloke down the pub will tell you that you need a defender between the forward and the goal to be onside but this is wrong. You need two, but one is normally the keeper. For Arsenal's winner, Pickford came charging out past all the players in the action. So when the cross came in, there was only one defender between Havertz and the goal. Keeper was not active. OFFSIDE.
Refs got it wrong again.0 -
But not sure they actually reviewed it or drew lines. I suspect they didnt cotton onto the actual law.ForeverAddickted said:

He’s clearly onside by a wide margin which is why there probably wasn’t any lines drawn.
Keeper “not active”?

Premier League clubs have voted by 19-1 in favour of keeping video assistant referees (VAR) next season.

Would the relegated clubs vote or the promoted one, I did not think the "Golden Share" passed till July.0

Wolves made to look a bit stupid there then.clive said:Premier League clubs have voted by 19-1 in favour of keeping video assistant referees (VAR) next season.

Yes,definitely a fan.Its not perfect but makes less mistakes than a referee.0

Can the Managers and Teams shut the F**K up about how its ran, and decisions that go against them now then.
No more of these wounded statements about how unfair life is

I don’t think they thought for a second that it would be binned but it gave them an opportunity to raise their grievances and hopefully that’ll help them improve it because it’s still very inconsistentChris_from_Sidcup said:

Wolves made to look in line with the two thirds of fans that also want it binned.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Or, alternatively, the rest of the Premier League clubs look out of touch with the groundswell of fan opinion. But then, when did they ever really give a fuck about the fans - apart from how to monetise them?Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Interesting that only Old Trafford and Anfield don’t have video screens to show VAR replays, only electronic scoreboards. So if they do decide to start showing the review as it’s going on then they’ll have to do something at those two grounds, although no idea where they’d put new screens.0

Rugby does it so much better. Today at Twickenham. Superb referee talks to TV match official but it is his decision. https://www.rugbyworld.com/news/watch-beno-obano-red-card-shock-bath-early-in-premiership-final-1694010

How does anyone challenge that red? I love how they watch it on a big screen too and everyone can hear the conversation and reasoning for the decision.0

How on earth does VAR look at this and decide a yellow was the correct decision? I get he didn't connect with the player, but surely that isn't the point. It's a dangerous two footed tackle and should therefore be a red?

You don't need VAR for that...Chris_from_Sidcup said:How on earth does VAR look at this and decide a yellow was the correct decision? I get he didn't connect with the player, but surely that isn't the point. It's a dangerous two footed tackle and should therefore be a red?

Very true, the ref should've sent him off, but it's more a question of how can any VAR look at that with multiple replays and think 'yeah a yellow will do'SporadicAddick said:

Ridiculous challenge. Your told from a very early age that's not how to challenge for the ball, so why a professional is doing it beggars belief.
From that picture it looks like hes auditioning for the Matrix.0 -

Fifa set to use VAR for corners at World Cup

As I have said for ages and ages, VAR should be used for every decision, or none at all.clive said:Fifa set to use VAR for corners at World Cup

Any wrong call can change the course of the game, an extra two yards stolen on a throw, a ticking off rather than a booking etc, as it's proponents insist that all decisions should be absolutely spot on it is logical to use VAR for everything.
Personally I still think it is all bollocks and takes away from the excitement and flow of the game.

In the Newcastle game last night the home team were awarded a penalty after VAR check. Both teams had been manhandling players in the box most of the game and getting away with it and the blatant impeding of goalkeepers is still being allowed.2

That was one of the worst VAR reviews in history last night.Starinnaddick said:In the Newcastle game last night the home team were awarded a penalty after VAR check. How was Bentancur supposed to be looking at the ball when Burn had him in a bloody head lock?
Would have been interesting to see if Romero hadn't scored his first, whether the referee/VAR would have awarded a penalty and for the rugby tackle by Burn on Romero when the cross came in from Kudus.
Well, the precedent has been set now. Any sort of wrestling at a corner should result in a penalty otherwise there is no consistency.0 -
there will be Pens in every single game at every level of football if last night is the precedentStarinnaddick said:In the Newcastle game last night the home team were awarded a penalty after VAR check. VAR for red cards (and yellows), plus the semi-automated offside tech we had at the Qatar world cup, and i think that is enough.1 -
I don't know why they are prolonging the agony as we watch everything that was good about the game slowly disappear.
Next season they should just cut to the chase and reduce the game time to 60 mins, spread over 4 quarters, with the clock stopping every time the ball goes dead and a delay after every "play" while a whole team of referees on and off the pitch check the video for any possible offence. Introduce time outs and ad breaks and it gives plenty of opportunities to sell "merch" to maximise revenues over the 3-4 hour period the game lasts. Quids in.
I'm amazed nobody's thought of it before.0
