Simply....we aren't above Wrexham and Birmingham because of one simple reason. They have a better goal difference to us. And in case you are hard of hearing, Goal Diference is the difference between the number of goals you scored compared to the number you concede. So, although they haven't kept as many clean sheets as us they have scored more than we have.

If the defence does its job, and keeps the ball out of the net, there is less pressure on the striker to score
If the striker does his job, and scores more goals in a game then the pressure is off the defence if they do concede.
If you cant score, you cant win the game, and if you cant win the game then the next best thing is to stop the other team from winning, and if that's achieved without scoring a goal, then its achieved by keeping... a clean sheet!!

From what I can work out it has never been needed to be used for promotion in the football league. A couple of times it's been used to decide between first and second and once for first - third in L2 but they have 3 promotion places anywayScoham said:

Its pretty clear over the last three seasons, if you want to win automatic promotion, then shockingly you need the whole team to come together and do its job, not just part of the team that suits the narrative that we each want to argue.
Whats interesting is from 2018-19; Luton scored the most goals, were the third best team defensively, and kept the second most clean sheets - So wouldn't completely write off Jones to find creativity from the team either to score.

Lee Gregory as current top scorer in League One with 5 goals in 6 games. I hadn't realised he signed for Mansfield as a free agent in the summer. Be interesting how many goals he manages at 36 years old this season.0
