Blucher said:I don't recall seeing the player but Campbell looks to have a good pedigree and this is hardly a loan in which Charlton are developing someone else's player. I don't know what Campbell's contractual position is but, having been loaned out last season as well, he might well be a free agent next summer and, even if he is not, a successful spell at Charlton could well lead to him joining us on a permanent basis.
On the basis that Fraser and Taylor have no future at the club and Edun is not rated, we now at least have five midfielders for the three slots. We'll certainly need them with injuries and suspension over a long season, particularly given the team's high energy, aggressive style.1 -

Getting older more experienced players in doesn't mean you have to ship your prospects out. It actually gives the management the option to use the boys when he needs to and not flog them cause they are the only option! Never heard of Allan, but hopefully he does well. COYA8

Our striker situation on paper looks pretty decent but it’s also pretty precarious. Chuks is Chuks, Miles has had a very long injury absence, Kanu is young and inexperienced and would he be up to the rigours of a full season of Jonesball ? I wouldn’t be that shocked if we brought in another front man. Loan most likely but if the right player is available at the right price then I can see something happening. Would be quite an ask of the owners though.0

A transfer thread and there is nothing on it about him. Where he plays, age, where's he's from? I can't be the only person in the dark.0

At 26, Glasgow born Midfielder Allan Campbell had played 135 games for Motherwell which as we all know doesn't mean a lot when compared to playing in England. Rated at Luton in 75 matches but couldn't make a mark at Millwall in a dozen games.
24 U21 caps and 1 full cap so you would think a decent addition to a League 1 squad with a top 6 minimum requirement.
This 1 season loan just confirmed that Terry Taylor will struggle to get a game or even a place on the bench and Fraser is persona non grata until CAFC can arrange a loan deal with a financial hit.
That's football and football politics.

So, is A. Campbell, the Dobson replacement?1

Secondly, he's bonded well with with fellow Jamaica International 🇯🇲 Kaheim Dixon and will help him settle here at Charlton.
I shouldn't overlook the importance of that.

If he is even half as good as my all time favourite Charlton player, Alan Campbell, then I will be a very happy bunny. The Alan Campbell who excelled under Eddie Firmani is my standout Charlton player - period. The 68/69 season is still without equal in my mind for sheer excitement, even though we just missed out on promotion to Derby County (under a certain B Clough) and Crystal Palace. He was ably assisted by Matt Tees, Ray Tracey and Graham Moore. A great Charlton side.16

Apologies to all when I got our original AC mixed up with Ray Treacy. Too many beers.0

charltonbob....Yes, for me, better than 1999/2000. The fact that it followed 5-6 years of struggling at the bottom of Division 2, flirting with relegation, made it all the sweeter. Beating Derby at the Valley 2-0 in front of 30,000, beating Palace at Selhurst in a cup replay in front of 38,000 and then taking over 20,000 fans to Highbury in the next round of the cup was utterly magical. Heady days!4

Getting back to the Allan Campbell thread, just had to share this post from another board which tickled me pink.
Described with my mate with a Luton season ticket just now as "a box to box midfielder who will lead a press and can carry the ball, who would tackle his nan for the last ginger biscuit''.

Was a 68 where she only blew you and you owed her one.1

Otherwise from what I’ve read about him he’s competition for any of the midfield roles. Assuming it’s confirmed it’ll be great to have a proper senior alternative rather than completely relying on Anderson (though he still has a part to play). With the recent recruitment paying dividends already, you can’t help feeling positive about this signing.0 -

The Dobson replacement is all the players taking on defensive/tackling/closing down/leading by example responsibilities rather than leaving all that to only one player (Dobbo).11
