Good. Looks like we're taking squad capability seriously. Let's hope there's some changes in the medical and fitness regimes too. Don't want another season hampered by long term injuries.
People may know better than me, but that nutritionist role for the whole mens team and academy seems like a rather large undertaking when you’re offering it out as a 1 day a week role.
Just batch cook for the week and stick it in the freezer.
  • Agree totally, our tempo and constant balls in behind wear teams down and it seems like the whole team know come 75 minutes + opossition will be spent and we can push on

We looked MUCH fresher than Orient at the end of the game. Doctor Will must take a lot of credit for that.

It's also noticeable that we have had relatively few strain injuries so far. Players will get whacked and clobbered, but it's the annoying muscle injuries that have really held us back in recent years.

  • Will Abbott is the guest at the CAST AGM on November 28th.

  • Just when he has some difficult questions to answer!
  • New manager, new head of performance, new players, same old October/November injury list.

    When will it end
  •  Could do with some bod coming up with a league 1 table of injuries at each club, reckon we’d be in the promotion places!
  • What do you expect when inexperienced referees are providing no protection. The foul on TC on Saturday was a red card imo.

Like could he ask NJones to add Dan Potts back to the WhatsApp group so he.can confirm his availability each week.
  • You can't blame Will Abbott for impact injuries.

  • Director of Performance Services Dr Will Abbott will leave the Charlton Athletic in September after nearly two years with the club.

Abbott has played a key role in shaping the club’s performance department since his arrival in November 2023. During his time at the club, he has developed staff and implemented processes that have positively impacted all aspects of Charlton’s performance services.

Managing Director James Rodwell said: "We’d like to thank Will for his contributions to Charlton since his arrival. He has played a significant role in driving the club forward, and supporters will have seen the dramatic improvement in men’s first-team player availability and overall fitness.

"While we reluctantly accept his decision to take on a new challenge, he leaves behind a strong foundation - an excellent performance team and robust systems that will continue to benefit the club for years to come.

"We wish him all the best for the future and he will always be welcome back at The Valley."

Abbott added: "Charlton is a wonderful club with hardworking, passionate staff and an incredible fanbase. I’ve absolutely loved my time here and it's been great to see the progress made across the men’s, women’s, boys and girls programmes. Last season's promotion to the Championship especially will live long in the memory. It has been a very tough decision to take to leave the club, but I felt it was the right time to take on the next challenge in my career.

"I’ll still be following the club and wish everyone at Charlton the best for an exciting season ahead."

The club has now begun the process of recruiting a new performance services lead.

  • “a new performance services lead”, that sounds like a big step down from Abbott’s role as Director of Performance Services.

  • At least he’s laid the groundwork to reduce injuries. It’s a loss, of course, but surely there are others out there who are just as capable.

  • Hmm, is everyone getting poached or is there a background restructuring going on?

3 people leaving the door within weeks of each other isn't great.
