There are a few things we still don't know.   1.  Is that just home or home and away?   2.  Is it connections or estimated viewers?

You only need 2000 connections paying £10 each over 23 home matches to cover your costs.

I assume the CAFC product is taking the same route to international viewers as last season so unless vpn detection has been upgraded I can't see why Charlton TV hasn't continued in last season's format.

As I mentioned on the Dobbo thread, on May 10 I ran both that and the Charlton TV situation past a well-respected journo. I didn't hear back from him for a week or so but today I discovered that on May 25th, having done some digging, he had replied re both. Here is what he said, verbatim:

" I'm told its audience was 3-4,000 a game, with an annual budget of £450k. The new Sky deal means fans in UK and US can't watch it so its audience will fall to 800-900. Will carry on but without the Minto/Curbs bells and whistles. Club seemed genuinely confused that anyone would question this."

Re the last line, five days after he replied to me, the club announced the monthly show. I just wonder whether as a result of his enquiry somebody had a look on  here to see what the "customers" were saying. And I'm only half-joking.

The numbers are useful I think. If I recall correctly £450k is exactly what each club gets from the Sky deal, isn't it? Perhaps with small add-ons for featured games?

The annual subscription was £220. What we don't know is what % of the 3-4k audience (quite a decent figure IMO) paid anything. A lot of talk about Firesticks et al but equally a lot of people on here using VPNs which means they also paid the match-day rate of £10.
Fire sticks won’t be included simply due to how the technology works.

Why wouldn’t someone using a VPN also buy the annual pass? It’s a massive saving.

That massive drop seems somewhat unlikely as those using a vpn are going to carry on next year.

Don't visits via a Fire stick show up on online analytics? Maybe they don't, curious how, if so.

I'd be delighted if many of those using a VPN also bought an annual pass but I doubt it's anything like a majority, after all they include people on here who otherwise seem to go to a fair few games, so they'd pick and choose. If 80% of the original audience were on the annual sub then the club was looking at a clear and chunky operating profit, and if that had been the case I don't think they'd have chucked the studio content out so quickly. And I suppose a lot of people previously using VPNs have Sky subs, so will use that to watch.
When I watch on my fire stick, I’m not watching the same stream as you, I’m basically watching a stream of the stream, if that makes sense and most weeks it seems a good 30 seconds behind the official stream.

I hadn’t considered the sky sub point, you’re right. That will definitely put a dent in the numbers.

Either way I’m glad the service is still continuing, an absolute bargain at £220 a season.

Thanks, that’s a very good explanation of a Firestick.

And it implies that overall viewing figures were even higher than 4k, which given our dismal on-field performances is pretty encouraging.

If someone was looking to buy a season ticket (overseas version), but from the UK, using a VPN, do they not have to give a name and address which needs to be verified, is that a problem?

No mate. I buy one every year and I give my UK address without any issues. Mine is genuine as I spend a lot of time in Spain but I still put my uk address

This took me by surprise, I’d have thought they woůld have traíled this more strongly, especially to subscribers - and why this week,
not next week, closer to the opening game?

Anyway how was it? I am certainly glad to see Scott Minto is still involved

    Really enjoyed it !

SUCH a shame that it's something we'll see just once a month now but hope it's well subscribed to.

Love these guys ...and Lisbie's not so bad either .

They represent all that is/was good about our club and importantly are clearly cautiously optimistic about the coming season.

    Bring it on !

I’d love it if they did a live version in the fans bar before and after games. The discussion is always top drawer.

Thought it was more a promotional video for what the club has been doing behind the scenes. Which is fair enough.

Nothing really added by Curbs and co that we didn’t already know. At the moment there are a lot of unknowns, that are still waiting to be answered. Thought they were hesitant on making a prediction and I don’t blame them.

I couldn't make the live broadcast, hoping it gets uploaded (isn't yet).

It's up on demand now. A very enjoyable 90 minutes.

I'm happy we will continue the coverage. One issue I have is the time it took to make the replay available. Some kick off times, especially mid week meant that it was early hours of the morning. But the replay wasn't made available till days later. I'd like the replay the next day.

I imagine it takes a couple of days because Sky etc. get the rights to the highlights initially, then the editing and uploading it all onto the site

The broadcasting of the Wigan match via Sky was poor in terms of commentating and direction. I already miss Greg, Tel and Brownie. And of course back in the studio with Scott, Curbs and Lisbie. Do we know if the Caribou cup match against Birmingham is being broadcast on Tuesday and if so where can I find the match being streamed. Thanks.

Pretty sure it's the same arrangement as Saturday

Tbf in previous seasons they’d be doing us a favour cutting it before we inevitably conceded in added time

The Wigan match was pretty good in terms of commentating and direction.

The commentator did a decent job on his own and I can only remember one occasion where the choice of camera was wrong - using a tightly focused shot when the wider shot was better, which they quickly switched too. There were also multiple camera angles and action replays.

Not really sure what else we could reasonably expect. But each to their own.

The big issue was that everything went down just before the end. Like watching a film for two hours and then with 5 mins left your missus turns over because she wants to watch Strictly, or some shit.
