Garrymanilow said:Suspect a fair reading of this would be that Dobson was offered the wage of an average L1 player. Because that's what he is. He may well be one of our best players but we're rubbish and praying we don't get relegated, and have finished the last two seasons midtable so hard to argue otherwise. Dobson has rejected that and signed an agreement with the Hungarian team for next season. Scott has decided he'd rather flog him now for cash rather than lose him on a free in the summer as he's gambling that between them our 7 other central midfielders can keep us in the league. To do that he's forced Dobson out by making him train with the kids as he wasn't going to go until the summer. Now there's a briefing war going on as the Dobson side doesn't want fans thinking he bailed on a relegation fight, when he actually just bailed on next season. I'll be shocked if that's not essentially accurate.
There is fault on both sides probably but if Dobson is not going to hang around and would rather take his chances abroad, then he, like CBT, needs to be moved on and we get what we can for him.
It is not the way I wanted it to go but he's gambled and lost IMO.6 -

Dobson was forced to train with the youngers so clearly he was being pushed out.
Worst case scenario he's banned from Sparrows Lane (whether we'd be allowed to do that or not, I'm unsure), and has to train like a Free Agent - He'd then get his revenge, by ensuring that the club got no money for him this summer, and he'd then be able to pocket a bit extra through a signing on fee.0 -

plus if we wanted to get rid why did we not sell him in Jan ? no this is down to Dobson to take up a different option that’s all .. once again people trying to stir up trouble5

I’m sure if his team were confident they would get a good offer closer to home, especially again considering he would be free, then they would have bit the bullet - instead of upheaving the family to go to a complete different country for a few years.0 -
I don’t really get it on either side. Charlton should just let him run down his contract. While I do think he’s overrated by a lot of our fans, he’s a good League One player and important to this team. From Dobson’s point of view, see your contract out and get a payday one way or another this summer.2

Firstly. No idea why you have chosen a couple of hours before what is a massive game to post and cause some aggro/unhappiness within the fan base. Everyone needs to be on board pulling in the right direction today for the club. Seems a strange time to make your point imo
i love Dobson. I’d start him every game but it’s football. Seems like we offered a contract and an increase on his wages. He’s the captain of the club and we are at a very very low point and gradually declining at the moment year on year. Football is about opinions, always has been and always will be. If he has still be offered a pay increase then it’s just a case of the valuation him and his advisors differ to the valuation of the people who own the football club. There is no right a wrong.
what baffles me is why no other league 1 club or champ club are biting his hand off. There must be a major factor in moving to Hungary (if that’s the case) that isn’t in the public domain.
great player for us, but if his time is up then so be it. No player is bigger than the club and we move on13 - Sponsored links:

He would still be allowed to see out his contract with us, if he wanted to2 -
So he's going it seems.
It also seems it's his choice to go after being offered a contract extension with perhaps a 14% pay rise (£500 on £3500?) and a further 2 years.
Maybe it's the money or not long enough on the contract but I doubt it. My guess is he feels his face won't fit in the way he wants it to for the next couple of years and if that's the case I feel sorry for him, I've had that in my career and it doesn't feel very nice at all. It makes it feel like it's not your own choice really.
If he is going I hope he has a great rest of his career, his family do well and I thank him for being the player he has been for us.
I hope he looks back in a year or so and can be at least somewhat glad with the direction his career has taken and I hope we can all be glad about the direction our squad and league position has taken. My feeling is both of these things have a good chance of coming true.3 -
George Dobson made watching Charlton over the past few years bearable. He’s a quintessentially Charlton player. He should have been looked after.
Andy Scott is responsible for mostly dross and a side that is teetering on relegation to the forth tier. He should be transferred to the Hungarian league.

Can accept good players leaving. It's been happening for the last 60 years at least. What is more difficult to take is the apparent clumsy handling of the Dobson contract.16

Didn’t you once claim that your relative had made the official paperwork for our Australian Owners?1 -
If you worked harder than any other employee at your organisation and had been the best performer there for the past few years, but your boss told you he didn't rate you and paid other employees (who put in less effort than you) better money, how long would you stick around?

Have you got concrete news from the club that he is now moving in this window to you? I ask because Gaby, an always reliable Hungarian source , wrote this to me last week

1st July, reflecting the talk of a pre-contract. Now there are two people on here saying he has gone now. That should mean that a fee has been paid. Are Fehervar that anxious to get him that they would pay a fee to get him now? Maybe, but if I were you, I would not assume it based on those two posts.I think we’d all appreciate it if you can post direct links about this from either the club or reliable HU media. Don’t worry about the language, we can all use Google Translate.0 -

I really hate to say this but I've been trying to figure out the common denominator in recent seasons of absolut guff.
Managers players and owners have come and gone and still we are no better.
There is one constant though......1 - Sponsored links:

I think it’s nailed on he has gone. I’ve just seen him in the Woolwich Wetherspoons kicking off because there is no Goulash on the menu.30

Overrated player as was CBT. Could do with him for the next 16 games, but next season he would be on the bench.12

Had hoped it was a bit of a standoff over contract terms, sign or we'll drop you v I want better terms or I'm off to Hungary.
Seems sadly not.
Think it would be daft selling him - dont think he's the type who would sulk like CBT did, and while there would be some merit in the argument of getting something in now rather than lose a player on a free if we were in midtable, as we're at risk of going down, there's a strong feeling that losing one of your best players for a small fee is a false economy.5 -

We move on, a shame as he was a decent player. No way near the best midfielder I’ve seen play for Charlton but he left it all on the pitch1
