Nobody can force him to go to Hungary NOW.1 -
We are in a relegation BATTLE. I have seen nothing from Coventry thus that says he’s up for a battle. He might turn out to be a baller but a battler? That Dobson fella might have been up for it4

Apparently, its been Dobbo's childhood dream to live in HungaryRonnieMoore said:
Let them go ? CBT refused to play because he wanted a north back up north .. Dobson was not about money he wanted a flat 3 year deal club righty so offered 2 with optionmrbligh said:Disgraceful. Andy Scott so far has signed a whole heap of duds and let our two best players go. Genius3 -
How many times do we have to let a player go and everyone goes well we can do better than him anyway only for that player to be replaced by an inferior version before we wake up and realise once you got something half decent its probably best to keep them cos whats out there is usually naff. Build the team around the better players.5

Yep, hopefully he comes good because we’ve tied him down and he’s a fair bit younger than Bannan.ForeverAddickted said:
Ideally thats what we've signed Conor Coventry to do...Danny Addick said:A player like Barry Bannan, who will sit and dictate play from deep, is pie in the sky and rare for league 1. Only my opinion of course but I think keeping Dobbo was important (more so than CBT imo)1 -
Hmm. Players will get offered what the club are willing to offer them and if they don't want to take it then they have the right to go. If Dobson was sent to train with the kids then that doesn't sit right with me. However, the flip side of that is our club captain has left and now we have two different posters coming on here spreading negative stories and slagging off the club in the hours leading up to our first match under a new manager in a relegation scrap we need to get out of. Whether George knows that this stuff is being posted or not his camp really doesn't come out well from this

Only Charlton could see two of their best players in the middle of a relegation battle0

We've built around Dobson for nearly 4 years, and look where we areKarim_myBagheri said:How many times do we have to let a player go and everyone goes well we can do better than him anyway only for that player to be replaced by an inferior version before we wake up and realise once you got something half decent its probably best to keep them cos whats out there is usually naff. Worth noting that despite being out of contract in the summer it doesn’t appear that George has been inundated with offers from league one or Championship clubs. At least not better than what he’s getting in Hungary or perhaps even what been offered by Charlton.Talal said:Bit confused as to why he's picked Hungary though. He'd easily get another league one gig when he's a free agent and then wouldn't have to move his family so far. Just think it's a strange choice.4 -
Yeah you right. Its all his fault.Leuth said:

Shame if he is going as he has a lot of worth, just find it strange that, if he was sure he wasn't going to hang around that it's Hungary and now rather than looking for a signing on fee in the summer, one.of.those championship clubs that he was always going to 😅 (stand down just a little joke)
Good luck to him anyway, put in the effort over some strange difficult times when others went missing. Will be missed on and off the pitch.1 -
What other player did we actually have and might've been able to hold it all together?
Gilbey?
2 -
the fact no other English club made him or the club an offer tells you how he is seen outside the Charlton fanbase ….0
-
Yes perhaps but CBT was never going to stay. He wanted out as was his right. George wanted to stay but not for the money we were prepared to offer. Again his right. The clubs right is to get a fee if at all possible which it appears they’ve done.Croydon said:Dobson and CBT both going in January is bad business. Doesn't matter how you try to dress it up1 -
Find this all very weird. Why not see out your contract and see what offers you get at the end of the season. Worst case scenario you sign for another League One club or move abroad then.24

Is it a joke though.CL_Phantom said:Shame if he is going as he has a lot of worth, just find it strange that, if he was sure he wasn't going to hang around that it's Hungary and now rather than looking for a signing on fee in the summer, one.of.those championship clubs that he was always going to 😅 (stand down just a little joke)

Why is his agent, him, his family, not confident that a high level league one/lower level championship team are not going to come in for him with a decent wage offer over what we did.
Especially as they don’t have to pay a fee.3 -
Maybe none that we're willing to pay a fee but I'd be very surprised if there was no interest from league one if he was a free agent.ShootersHillGuru said:

Bogarde did it for years. It's only a few months, he'd still be getting paid, then he could assess in the summer. He hasn't chosen to do that which is fair enough but it was an option.IanC1960 said:

Then why not wait until the summer when there might well have been offers. I can only conclude he fancies a little adventure in another country. Why not. Good luck to him.Talal said:

Suspect a fair reading of this would be that Dobson was offered the wage of an average L1 player. Because that's what he is. He may well be one of our best players but we're rubbish and praying we don't get relegated, and have finished the last two seasons midtable so hard to argue otherwise. Dobson has rejected that and signed an agreement with the Hungarian team for next season. Scott has decided he'd rather flog him now for cash rather than lose him on a free in the summer as he's gambling that between them our 7 other central midfielders can keep us in the league. To do that he's forced Dobson out by making him train with the kids as he wasn't going to go until the summer. Now there's a briefing war going on as the Dobson side doesn't want fans thinking he bailed on a relegation fight, when he actually just bailed on next season. I'll be shocked if that's not essentially accurate.

You’re George’s Dad and I claim my prize😉. Good luck to him anyways and all his hard work and dedication to the cause has been much appreciated. This is football folks these things happen, nothing we can do about it so time to move on.IanC1960 said:

I would rather lose them for free in the summer than get relegated.Todds_right_hook said:

What a calamity.
Which one will end up being a more expensive loss?5 -
Dobbo put more into his game than most of the others put together.I am sure he would have stayed for a reasonable offer, but to offer him less than some players who put in 50% of his effort,is insulting, and I dont blame him one bit for telling Scott to poke it.This is mismanagement of the highest order and needs to be addressed.I hope the title of manager means that Jones has the final say and Scott is downgraded and possibly removed from the club altogether.10

It’s also about what we need right now though, isn’t it Sco? I rate Fobson highly but I also accept there’s a debate to be had about where he fits in a truly ambitious promotion chasing team and what his long term utility would be in a higher division.Scoham said:
True about Semedo, we moved on and replaced him with players better suited, but he also got promoted to the Championship and played there for 4 or 5 years.charlton_hero said:
He's a decent player and has a brilliant work ethic, but I'm not sure he's good enough for the Championship, if he was, surely he would be moving up a division and not off to some random club in Hungary. Remember Semedo, decent player for us but we upgraded and moved on.charltonman2016 said:Will post more after the game on this. Scott labelled George as an average league 1 player ans can only see him as a squad player going forward at Charlton. Doesn't believe he is a player to get us promoted.
Only offered a small increase on his current wage. George wanted to stay. It is not about the money and that is why his father has allowed us to post this because he doesn't want fans thinking his boy is leaving for money.
George wanted to be in and around the wage of most of the players. Tennai Watson is on around 1k more than George for example.
The final insult was making him train with the u23s last 2 days. He has been desperate to move him on last couple of months. Obviously I am biased and get on well with George and his father but thought it best I share with you all 👍🏻
Like Semedo, Dobson could play at that level in the right team, but probably wouldn’t be a regular either. I see him as the sort of player who wants to be at a club where he’s a regular starter.
Taylor and Coventry both looked like alternatives and future replacements for Dobson to me so I’m not surprised to read he’s expected to move on.BUT
First we’ve got to get away from our current perilous position and back to mid table safety. He’d 100% be an asset for that so why play games and deny him being an option to the new manager?5 -
Who says they were allowed to?LargeAddick said:Find this all very weird. Why not see out your contract and see what offers you get at the end of the season. Worst case scenario you sign for another League One club or move abroad then.
Dobson was forced to train with the youngers so clearly he was being pushed out.1 -
pwr 150 posts.
Sad that he's gone but I don't understand why & where.
Hundreds of players are out of contract every June. Some are offered a new contract many aren't. Some re-sign and some seek employment elsewhere. No problem with that & wouldn't have surprised me if that was what Dobbo did.
But he left now & to Hungary. Just doesn't make sense. Must be more to it, or as @LargeAddick said to us earlier.....maybe Dobbo's wife is Hungarian. That is the only thing that would make sense.0 -
A flat? hahaha. Couldn't he have had the one Southall's missus decorated?0
