League One Relegation Watch 2024

Reading playing Oxford early this afternoon. Oxford unsurprisingly on top for the opening of the game.

Also, didn't realise how many games in hand Port Vale have over everyone else.

Just a point from the next two games will likely see us in the bottom four. Don't think it will happen but certainly not impossible.

Reading have lost 3 centre backs this January too. (One has been loaned back however.)

Not quite the full squad gutting that many expected.

Didn't they also loan a CH from Arsenal?

Yep but not playing today. Obviously loaning in a 20 year old is a risk to try replacing 2 first-team players.

Oxford 1-0, looked offside on first sight but no flag. - Replay shows the Reading left back miles behind the defensive line playing him on.

Is it a good game worth watching?

It's a derby so very scrappy. Would say the quality isn't very good but it's a fairly competitive game.

Great thinking starting this thread. When one was started before xmas about Alfie May getting 30 goals this season he promptly stopped scoring.

Hopefully we will now start winning & this thread will become superfluous....like Alfie May's did 😂.

    Reading playing midweek too.

They could be above us even before we play them next weekend.

Think once everyone plays their games in hand the bottom of the table will look a lot clearer. Port Vale and Cheltenham in particular.

Hopefully by then we'll have picked up a couple of underdog wins and be well out of danger.

Cheltenham v Wycombe and Fleetwood v Port Vale today. We lose and wins for the away sides and we are in deep trouble.

Or to put it another way. We win and losses for the away sides and we are not in so much trouble. ;)

Perhaps the teams below us with games in hand will do the same as us when we had games in hand earlier in the season ... Lose 🤗
  • For the past few seasons I've been saying "there's at least 4 teams worse than us, so we won't go down". This season I'm genuinely worried there isn't. We need to get Nathan Jones confirmed ASAP so he can help turn this mess around.
  • Worst position in my lifetime this deep in to a season (I think )

We are going down - this feels like a relegation season.  No keeper of quality , no defence and no goal threat .  I evidently qualify that by saying we have Alfie May and he’s scored a lot of goals .  Without CBT to supplement , we’ve had it .

If this isn’t the case , I will be delighted !

    Still think we’ll be fine.

IF it did happen, there should be studies done on our season because getting relegated from League One with:
    - Alfie May,
    - Freddie Ladapo,
    - Tyreeq Bakinson,
    - Conor Coventry,
    - George Dobson,
    - Corey Blackett-Taylor,
    - Scott Fraser,
    - Miles Leaburn,
    - Chuks Aneke,
    - Panutche Camara,
    - Lewis Fiorini,
    - Michael Hector,
    - Rarmani Edmonds-Green,
    - Macauley Gillesphey,
    - Lloyd Jones
in your squad at various points of a 46 game season is genuinely unfathomable.

You include players like Fiorini and Bakinson and Ladapo as if they are actually any good. Maybe they are but we haven't seen it yet and may not at all. You say you think we will be fine, I think you need to look at the table and realise we are deep in shit otherwise you might get a rude awakening. Optimism is ok but at some point realism needs to kick in.
