If it's any help to anyone, i always catch the 180 bus to get to the Valley instead of driving. There's absolutely loads of parking available along Yarnton Way, also around the Belvedere industrial estate. Bus journey from there is around 40 mins, with buses every 10 mins4

On days when the trains are running, it is just about possible to park around Westcombe Park and Maze Hill stations, Westcombe Park is 1 stop or a 15-20 min walk, Maze Hill 2 stops. There are 2 hour parking restrictions but you would be really unlucky to get done for parking up at 2.30 and picking the car up at 5.302

Once people start doing that on a regular basis you can bet your life the council will start sending traffic wardens there every home game.5 -

Well done the trust, until you have the data, just moaning about parking will cut little ice with any council, and in my opinion with RBG we will face an uphill task.Weegie Addick said:
Yes I have completed the survey.
Perhaps a 'voucher parking' scheme could be proposed, and you could buy 5 at a time, and that would enable you to park from 1pm till 6pm, on match days, and a similar scheme for evening matches. A bit like the 'scratch card' visitor parking schemes, the the council get the revenue, ran by other councils?. The club could also sell them, and local shops to assist fans. Hopefully the trust, and the fans forum can come up with some constructive suggestions, with the support of the club.?
I am just trying to find a solution, not suggesting it's the only answer to the issue.5 -
Just an idea but..when there are events at the barracks or the funfair is on, parking is allowed on Woolwich common. A 15 minute walk or bus gets you to the Valley. Two or three stewards paid for by the club to supervise perhaps??7

Having watched the first half I'm suddenly all for the CPZ13

How are the coaches allowed to sit on the lower road during the game or do they move and return at the end of the game?1

On a slightly different parking note, did anyone else see that moron who parked a large van close to the width restrictions by the Meridian Club today?
Before the game an ambulance had to divert down past the cemetery because of the traffic blockage caused. And he was still there arguing with irritate motorists after the game.0 -
Apologies if this has been flagged up earlier in this thread, but the issue around the Residents' Parking Expansion was brought to the club's attention at the most recent FF meeting which took place on September 14th.
James/Jim Rodwell agreed to investigate this pressing concern & was advised that Greenwich Council should be contacted.
The full notes from the meeting are available to read via the Fans' link on the OS.
The next FF meeting is diarised for November 30th.7 -
I now live nearly 200 miles from the Valley and on the now, regrettably, few occasions I do go to home games, I now use the train because it is much quicker and convenient for me.I do understand that it must constitute a nuisance for residents of Charlton to have thousands of cars parked in their streets on match days. However, there has been a football ground attracting thousands of people to games at the valley for most of the last hundred years. Other than the few years at Selhurst, anybody moving to the Charlton area would have been aware of this. Although general car ownership has increased, the reduction in crowds since Premiership years probably means that less cars are parked around the valley than 15 or 20 years ago.
One of the problems in South East London is that public transport is generally worse than elsewhere in London. What provision there is, tends to operate mainly on an East/West basis, rather than North/South as well. If one looks at some of the other grounds in London there are tube lines extending out to cover all of the points of the axis. I lived in Shepherds Bush in the early 80’s and I had 4 tube stations within an easy 15min stroll from my flat.Whilst I appreciate the nuisance that matchday parking is to local residents, the limited number of times it happens, the limited realistic, public transport alternatives and a hundred years of custom and practice should carry some weight.12 -
Reading this article, there are only 20 residents who replied to the consultation that said they are in favour.InspectorSands said:
It would appear that the council wish to drive this through purely to raise revenue against the wishes of just about everyone.
Disgraceful.
They are meant to be working for the people of Greenwich, not against them.14 -
Pretty much what you will find with most councils around London running these consultations. Consultations mean diddly squat. As long as they put a consultation out the council have done their bit. It could be 100% against and they will still go ahead with what they have planned.Covered End said:

I can confirm this to be true and worse still the consultation only needs the vaguest connection to the subject to be allowed. According to the Local Government Ombudsman, for a consultation to be valid, it does not have to be good, understandable or relevant.O-Randy-Hunt said:

Much like a local council then. 😉

Followed up on this with one of the councillors I met. The response from one was "Be assured that this decision needs to be reviewed."Henry Irving said:Happened to be with three Greenwich councillors today, including the mayor.
Wasn't the time or place for a full on rant about the parking but said that there was a lot of unhappiness and that they should expect a lot of emails.
The mayor was quite sympathetic.
How much influence councillors have over such decisions or whether he is just humouring me, I don't know but if you don't ask, you don't get and he did copy in some other councillors including the Chair of the transport committee.
So if you have the time it might be worth emailing some of them with a POLITE message pointing out the damage to local businesses, the impact on the work of the football club and community trust and the knock on affect on surrounding streets on the edges of the parking zone.

I had a look at the train times for the Cray Valley match. There is a bus replacement between Tonbridge and Orpington, so the journey will be around two and a half hours each way, leaving at 2.00 pm and I wouldn't get home until 10.30 that night. Driving takes around an hour each way. Guess which I will choose?3

I presume that's why there's a bus replacement. No trainsJaShea99 said:Train?0 -
The issue isn’t whether “councillors” have influence, but which councillors. Executive members (cabinet) can always overrule officers unless what they want to do is unlawful.Henry Irving said:

https://committees.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/Councillors.aspx#MemberSectionCharltonVillage&RiversideThe mayor’s view - as the mayor - is completely irrelevant though in a cabinet and leader system.1 -

Train from local station to Tonbridge, bus to Orpington, train to London then back out again. Then repeat in the opposite direction..Bedsaddick said:
