With Livingstone, Moeen, Curran, Rashid and Wood destined to occupy five of the six places from six downwards, there is only likely to be room for one more seamer in the attack so that place is going to be between Woakes, Atkinson, Topley and Willeyblackpool72 said:

I am not sure Curran is a shoe in yet. Having a 6 man attack makes Willey more attractive. I don't think Adkinson will play when Wood does.Addick Addict said:

It's really tough that you have to leave 5 of the squad, including Brook, out. You can make a very strong argument that they should all play.1 -

The 1979 WC was a 60 over affair. The Windies scored 286-9 and given the extra 10 overs was by no means an insurmountable total. The issue was that we had Mike Brearley and Geoff Boycott opening who managed 121 runs off 235 balls between them. A certain Graham Gooch was batting at 4 and he made 32 off 28. Times have somewhat changed and rightly so. We lost by 92 runs by the way.0

I think the problem back then was that you had to start play at 10.30 and batting conditions that early was tough.
60 over competition's changed to 55 overs.

England U19s made a really good fist of setting some sort of a total in their Test match against Australia by getting to 348 all out. That was the good bit. In reply, Australia reached their target of 190 for the loss of two wickets - and in 21.1 overs at a rate of 9.02 and with more than a day to spare.1

The over rate was better back then which helped. Now you have pauses for reviews, concussion tests, a million field changes, long advert breaks etcblackpool72 said:

When I was a young lad ( as they say) you had the B&H 55 over tournament with a July final and the. 60 over Nat West which was seen as the premium one day comp but the final was held on the first Saturday in September with a 10.30 start as mentioned above which basically meant the toss decided the trophy 🏆

This was when Mr F was introduced to limited over cricket and we attended many matches before the kids arrived.

I'm really not surprised about Jamieson - he clearly hasn't fully recovered from the injury that put him out for more than six months and Adam Milne is now injured too. It will, indeed, be very interesting to see the make up of the two sides in four years time because neither squads have more than two or three currently under the age of 30.0 -
I'm sure the truth of Robinson's situation is out there somewhere but if his own stepfather doesn't know what it is then I'm really not sure who does? Has Farbrace lost his telephone number or are they just not on speaking terms now? Farbrace goes from "He hasn’t started bowling yet" to "We don’t know whether he is bowling at the moment, we assume not" to "It would be good to see if he is actually bowling". Even if he isn't talking to Robinson, it's not as is he hasn't got Rob Key's telephone number is it - the two were head coach and captain at Kent.Addick Addict said:

Robinson is on an ECB central contract so it is England, rather than Sussex, who determine his fitness and work programmes. Sussex have not been informed of the status of his fitness or whether he will have bowled enough to feature in their final two rounds of matches, and are clearly frustrated by the lack of communication from one of their senior professionals.
Robinson's contract at Sussex runs out at the end of the season albeit that he is centrally contracted too.

Root is worryingly out of form - playing outside his body this time to a ball swinging into him. Scores of 8, 9, 6, 0 and 4 in his last five innings this season and one score above 11 in his last eight ODIs. Could the unthinkable happen and our most technically sound batsman be left out of the WC side?2

Atherton "95% of the staff at Durham are from clubs and State schools and that would be slightly different in the south". "Slightly different" is something of an understatement especially when one sees that, at the likes of Sussex, all 17 homegrown players went to a private school.2

I'm not a fan of Malan in 20/20 as he needs a few overs to get settled and you can't afford to waste too many deliveries in the shorter format.
But I have to say that in the 50 overs format he appears to be the most in form of all our batsmen that play in the top 4 in the batting lineup.
He's a must for me.3 -
Roy had yet another back spasm this morning. Given that he has at least 10 plane journeys between now and the end of the group stage, is he really guaranteed to be fit for every game? I don't know what the rules are for replacements once the tournament has started and this isn't an injury that might totally rule him out but, equally, he could sustain a recurrence of it on an ongoing basis.
That said, he's going to do well to displace Malan now but I would rather have a fit Brook as back up (excuse the pun) than a possibly fit Roy.3 -
