Reply to our Scottish friend on the IOW.
Silly Billy.
1. It wasn't clear before this series that this was one too many for Anderson.
Jimmy had a groin issue so this may have affected his prep for this Ashes.
2. Finding an England spinner for the ashes after the injury to Leech is similar to Cafc trying to find a Left footed Left back.
3. Disengenuos to say Bairstow was picked because he's a mate. Foakes is better with the gloves but Bairstow had 3 scores of over 70 in this Ashes which was a record for an English keeper. Personally thought Bairstow would only play for England as a batsman if there was a vacancy not with the gloves.
4. Interesting debate on Stokes where it was clear that he wouldn't bowl much. If his bowling career is coming to a end then does he try to build big innings from 3 or is that position still Ollie Pope's when fit.
England is an old boys club ?
In times past Crawley would've been banished back to Kent (hooray) with his 28 average( before this series) and wouldn't have been around now to average 55 in this series and show his sublime skill and only the obdurate Khawaja is ahead of him in the runs accumulated.

Sillybilly said:I’m Scottish and don’t pretend to be a cricket aficionado so shoot me down, but for me there are a few glaring errors with England this summer that bazball is glossing over. Namely:
1. This was clearly a series too many for Anderson. Most people knew it before the summer but didn’t like to say;
2. Going scratching around a couple of weeks before the series to find a retired spinner off the shelf isn’t a good look;
3. Second best wicket keeper selected purely on the basis of being best mates with the skipper and ex skipper. The fact that he had one belter of an innings doesn’t excuse the amount of chuff he has been guilty of behind the stumps throughout;
4. The skipper can barely walk. It was obvious to a blind man that he would only be able to bowl selectively and not at his best. A real cutthroat manager would have dropped him before the series started.The fact that they’ve made a fist of it against the best team in the world despite the above is a source of pride and credit. But you just wonder what would have happened if a few hard decisions had been taken and it wasn’t so much of an old boy’s club.8 -
just got home after abandoning the oval when it started pissing it down. We looked pretty toothless until wood came on, why did it take a whole session for stokes to turn to wood? Especially when moeen clearly couldn't bowl. Anderson really looked like an average medium pacer.

3 days watching the Ashes this summer, all 3 rain affected.
I seem to have brought the Kent cloud with me...0 -

India isn't until next January(?), surely Leach will be back by then?0

Really? I'm surprised you haven't just said you'd take Jacks, Moriarty and Virdi3 -
Jacks? God help us0

I think thats what they said. Either that or as it became older it didnt swing as much & Wood's pace would be better. Wasn't really listening at that point as our bowling attack was about as potent as CAFC's forward line.
In any case they were pretty spot on with the time/overs bowled when the ball was eventually given to Wood. Just a shame their openers had both made fifty & were well set by that time.0 -

Besides Moriarty (probably) will be a Yorkshire player by the time this tour comes around.0 -

And there won't be an reverse swing out there anyway as it's too wet.0 -

Three of us went today and we all thought Wood should have been on first change and that's because he obviously should have.
As I've said before poor decision making has cost us The Ashes, by the selecters, manager & captain. (yes there were other reasons).4 -

Don't know what it's like at The Oval, but it's been raining for an hour in north London.0

Forecast looks ok with a few showers possible throughout the day, so we should get the majority of overs in hopefully. I'm feeling confident... It'll probably be close but I think we'll get the win to draw the series.
It's a shame the 4th test was washed out, this could've been a huge day.0 -
I’m afraid I can add no hope from the south of the Isle of Wight as it is pissing down and blowing a hoolie!!0
-
Should be good bowling conditions at least - here's hoping the attack can fire properly today.1
-
In Berkshire where it stopped raining about an hour and a half ago. Wind is from the west today, so hopeful play will start on time.

Not sure if it is great bowling conditions unless the damp has got into the wicket. England looked very unthreatening yesterday and need a bit of inspiration first up0
-
Light rain, bowlers run up at the Vauxhall end still covered0
-
Annoying shower, but it's stopped and there's a hint of sunshine0

(A)
Stokes can't bowl
Moeen can't bowl properly
Anderson can't get the ball to do beat anything
Wood can't bowl because he's suffering from the rigours of this being his third Test on the trot
Broad stopped playing on Saturday
Woakes is too nice a bloke to ruin Australia's day
or
(B)
Stokes will bowl if it means turning the game
Moeen was playing football so he's 100% good and will turn the ball square
Anderson will show everyone what they've been missing this series
Wood was saving himself yesterday just for today
Broad will take us to this final win with one of his famous Ashes spells
Woakes will summon his inner nastiness to ruin Australia's day
No "ifs" or "buts", It just has to be (B) on what is the last day of Test cricket of the summer for us all
