My pre series forecast was 2-2 with one game a rain affected draw, as even with Bazball the rain can still ruin a game.
Edgbaston was the reason we haven't won the Ashes back, we should have won there.1 -
We should have won at Egdbaston, but we bowled pies in the last hour once Lyons got in, nowt to do with the declaration which at least created the opportunity3

Just wrung my dress out back at the apartment.What I don’t understand about Manchester is if it rains all the time, why do they have such terrible paving that makes it so much harder to navigate the city. If the rain doesn’t get you from above, the splash back from a wonky paving slab will. There are puddles everywhere due to bad paving that are similar in size to lake Windermere that takes you on a massive detour to avoid.If you manage to avoid those then a car, bus or tram flying past will create a 7 ft high tidal wave.0

Called it Friday evening. Only thing I got wrong was that we had 2 hours of play yesterday.....but all that bought us was 1 solitary wicket.
Into to the Oval where there could be some more rain on the first couple of days.0 -
Australia have made 2,381 runs and taken 65 in the series so far. England have scored 2,401 runs and taken 73 wickets. Yet Australia have retained the Ashes.
It's the first time ever* that the award of the Ashes has been confirmed to a team scoring fewer runs and taking fewer wickets than its opposition.
(*I haven't checked whether this is true. I didn't think it was worth it).2 -
In hindsight my decision to cycle there today was a bad move. Woke up to unexpected news of the possibility of some play in the morning, rushed to get ready thought with train times and parking issues bike was the best bet. This whole retain things needs to go to. If the series ends in a tie, we need a super over. Honestly feel so deflated after what was a fantastic series.0

It’s a shame really it’s not a seven match series. More people would get to see it and the odd draw due to weather would be less significant2

This hurts a lot because quite clearly we were the most exciting and dynamic team and the more determined to win every one of the tests. Just goes to show entertainment doesn't guarantee success.
A least the next ashes won't be played in pissy Manchester.

So true, added to that, we walked off in good light overs down on days 1, 2 and 3 knowing there was heavy rain forecast for days 4 and 5. We could have played till 8.30 (Joe Roots pushing it with 10) and put extra time into the game. If the weather changed and we didn’t need that time they could have taken it off day 5 where people only paid £20 for a ticketBedsaddick said:

Simplest thing is to play to 90 overs each day if the conditions allow it.5

At the end of the day, we were unable to beat the Aussies in a five test series so don’t deserve to win the Ashes back0

Typically the weather for Manchester looks good for tomorrow.
When England last played Australia the result was an embarrassment. This time we've won one Test, had a moral victory (counts for nothing) and only lost two Tests narrowly. No-one would have foreseen this when Brendon McCullum, Ben Stokes and Rob Key took over.
England at least go to the Oval with momentum and the decision will be whether to play Josh Tongue or give Jimmy Anderson a run out in what could be his last Test. For the Aussies - they have a few selection issues, Cummins and Starc are their two strike bowlers but look knackered, Starc may even be injured. Cameron Green has scored few runs and hardly any wickets, Scott Boland has two wickets all series and hasn't lived up to the hype. Mitchell Marsh is worth picking for his batting but isn't a front-line bowler and Josh Hazelwood is not as sharp as I've seen him. Their batting has question marks hanging over it, Warner must be playing his last Test, and none of the other batsmen look in really good form other than Marsh.
And yet it was only a few weeks ago that they beat India to be World Test Champions...

A slightly later start to each test to allow for the potential over-run. So the fifth would start on Friday week I think. Eating into the 100, where there is money to be made. It's really sad and very frustrating but it is how the competition is set up.Gary Poole said:

The sooner the ditch the 100 the better it will be for English cricket and i'm convinced it will happen.9

Ridiculous that a days rain can decide the outcome. Can't some version of Duckworth Lewis be used?
