Scotland have just become the first team to beat three full member sides in the tournament namely Ireland, West Indies and Zimbabwe. They have to avoid defeat against the Netherlands on Thursday if they can but I believe a narrow loss might still be enough by virtue of their superior run rate. Sri Lanka have already qualified.
Been such a good tournament to watch! Another cracker today

The main reason a keeper stands up is to put pressure on where the batsmen is standing in his crease and to affect how the batsman wants to play a shot , does he want a long stride to counteract the spin / swing .
That batsmen knows the keeper is there for that exact reason and will try not to overbalance / step our of crease etc

Bairstows is completely different to the above scenario , it was a snide move, yes it worked .

And I would argue that Foakes' stumping of Balbirnie was a snide movement for the reasons I've said and that worked too.
I see it as Balbirnie taking a huge stride down the track to negate the spin and as he goes to regain his balance with his bat he topples and lifts his foot .
the advantage the batsmen seemed to gain by the long stride worked against him because he lost control of being in the crease as he tried to get himself back up
same position there with keeper holding ball over stumps I’d have expected him to be more careful .

I think that the actual footage, as per the link above, needs to be seen in real time from the perspective of the two movements and the fact that he sees that the ball is in Foakes' hands. As I've also said, Porterfield has argued the same as we have with regards to the fairness of the appeal.

I'm not sure why this is still raging. People who felt it was wrong will boo at Headingly and hope that inspires England rather than the Aussies. Those that don't won't, but there's a lot to be said for booing. Just ask @oohaahmortimer.

Some interesting Ashes stats on the BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/66097255. I liked the penalties for dropped catches bit.

dropping catches is abysmal (unless your eyesight goes, thats my excuse ) at Test level

My best mate was an Aussie, died of cancer far too early, bless him.  But I would have no compunction in squaring up to the cobber, and screaming to his face, "BAD SHOW, BAD SHOW YOU ABSOLUTE SHOWER!". And i turned him into an Addick as well, so I should feel guilty myself!

If the difference between winning and losing is close as it has been in the first two Tests, then us giving Australia 60 more extras has made all the difference and perhaps we should just consider always having that front foot behind the line.

If I had a pound for every journo, pundit, and cricket fan who has called Bairstow dozy since 'Walkies', I would be a millionaire.

It should be Aussies who go walk about.

No way Robinson plays ahead of Tongue.

Edit: Sorry just seen that that's the actual team 🙃

Surprised Robinson doesn't need rest more than Tongue but who knows.

Robinson has the best average of every bowler in the series FYI

Bit harsh on Tongue. I would have dropped Robinson on the back of his waving the white flag with the bat in the second innings.

Did see earlier he has the second most wickets in the series, one behind Broad, and the second best economy behind Root.

But I dunno, still feels like he's way down from his best.

Definitely agree that he's been below his best, but he is still a threat.

harsh on tongue, but i guess they only see a place for one fast bowler/enforcer. Would've had tongue in place of robinson, but i guess woakes can have his off days and you can't expect wood, tongue or broad to bowl long spells.

When you've got 4 seamers and a spinner, PLUS Stokes and Root, I'm not sure any of the seamers would have to bowl long spells.

IF Robinson plays instead of Tongue that would be a mistake .. Robinson is OK and has a decent test record, BUT Tongue has the capacity to get the Aussies hopping about, ducking and diving, PROVIDED of course that the Yorkie groundstaff prepare a fast and bouncy pitch .. OK the Aussies have a paceman or two but we need to be right on the attack for a win to keep the series anywhere near alive
