Honestly one of the worst overseas spells I've seen for Sussex. Looked completely out of form in all formats. Only good thing was him not playing last season got us Pujara.1 -

You obviously haven't seen some of Kent's overseas recruits - the "best" has to be Miguel Cummins. He took 6 wickets in 8 matches and each one cost 104 runs!!!MarcusH26 said:Pelling1993 said:

i really disliked him but after his incredible innings at lords whilst being booed etc after his suspension he kind of won my respect. With Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow putting on an unbeaten 269 in the second innings at Edgbaston last Summer, it's now 520 runs since India last took a fourth wicket in a Test in England. And counting.

5 defeats on the bounce. We probably need to now win at least 7 of our last 8 games to have any chance of making the quarter finals. That isn't happening so time to concentrate on staying up in the CC and winning the One Day Cup.1

Mitchell Starc might prove to be an asset to England in the Ashes.
The lumbering left-armer typically bowls over the wicket and his size 13 Kookaburra boots help cut up rough patches outside left-handers' off stumps. And that is, of course, to the benefit of off-spinners bowling to left-handers.
Warner, Khawaja, Head and Carey won't appreciate rough outside their off stumps when facing an off-spinner. So, with England's spin attack - presumably Moeen Ali and Joe Root - being exclusively off-spin, England may have an advantage they wouldn't have been afforded had Jack Leach not been injured. So there's good reason to believe that England will perform better with the ball if Starc is playing.
But, of course, there is another side to the equation. Surely Nathan Lyon will benefit from Starc's foot marks?
Well, one interesting rebuttal is that England's two main left-handers are four wickets apart, so England are less likely to have two left-handers in tandem.
But, more interesting is Lyon's record:
Every bowler in the Australian team has a better record as a bowler when Starc is in the team, than when he isn't. You can understand why - he's influential, a point of difference and creates different problems for batters to solve. Every bowler, that is, except one: for some counter-intuitive reason, Lyon's bowling record is worse when Starc is in the team than when he isn't.
I can't fathom why that might be. But it's a good portent.0 -
