2 tough hours for Ireland now. I hope Tongue gets a wicket

presumably the Ireland test was intended to give Irish cricket some credibility, a big boost to show it is a viable test playing nation .. fact is it's done the opposite
they have some solid players coming through - campher, tucker and tector are promising talents.

Would have liked to have seen Josh Little for them but he's just finished in the IPL and seems to only play white ball.

Those in windy cold Edrich go up stair 5 and to the front. Plenty of sunny seats free

I don't want to jinx it, but I think England are probably favourites from this position

England do get periods when they overdo these short ball tactics.

TBH Ireland could have fielded 15 in this test.

I don't think he's justified a great deal. Plenty of bowlers on the circuit could have fetched a bag here

A bit of a farce, which is why I never bothered going, plus watching cricket at the start of June is quite likely to be chilly (sitting there all day).

    I’m sunburnt.
    I'm not   :)

I think I booked the "under cover" seating in case of rain. As it is, the sun reached me about 5pm, so I finished the day in the warmth, and finally had to use my hat and a bit of suncream

Just got no interest in England piling on runs against a barely county level attack.

Myself & a mate who's hair is conspicuous by it's absence, went to see England v WI at Lord's in 2012.
It was bloody freezing and very dark clouds were overhead all day.
He told me next day he had burnt his head - hilarious.

We bought 2 x £25 restricted view tickets in Edrich lower. Don’t think we sat in them once. Some around us paid £40 for their restricted view. The row in front, £90! The restriction was a tiny corner of the outfield due to the screen. (See pic) Plenty of gaps in the whole block. Moved along seats as the sun came through the gap. It was breezy when in the shade. After tea moved to the 3rd row.

Used factor 50 and topped up loads but defo have a red nose!

Fantastic cheap(er) day out.  Mind you, the beer/cider has gone up this year. Glad you can take in a bottle each to compensate!

It's a glorified net really and not the ideal prep for an Ashes series especially if numbers 4-7 don't end up getting much of a bat

    This.

    Australia are playing India

    England are playing Ireland.

One team is going to be undercooked on June 16th.

I totally agree but to make things worse, we declared on the second day and will have this wrapped up (hope this doesn't age well) by early afternoon at the latest. Surely let the batsmen bat a bit longer and give bairstow and stokes time at the crease.

Went yesterday first experience at Lords. Plenty of beer and sun, cricket from what I saw of it was a bit of a no contest.

Did find it strange to not let Stokes or Bairstow get a bat but I suppose they just want to finish the game asap

The restricted view seats at Lord's can be very decent value, though at most Tests there won't be many vacant seats to move to. I've got one in the Mound stand for the Ashes

We always get restricted view and move about. 12-1 is usually the fullest time. Post lunch there are always gaps and post tea tons of seat options.
Almost easier at Ashes as so many people are on corporate jolly so the far left of mound stand, back row of the front block is always empty as it’s corporate seating. They don’t bother coming back after tea.

Stokes to make history today.  No captain has ever won a test match without batting bowling or keeping wicket.

Assuming the numbers 1-7 are inked in, who do you pick as the four bowlers for the first Ashes Test?

If its green Anderson, Broad and Robinson.  If its not green Wood and two of them.

    And Leach.

Both good choices. But I'm curious to know why England's choices should be so heavily impacted by whether Australia decides to pick Cameron.

The state of Stokes' knee feels more important than today's play! Every limp and grimace is the main story...
