PLAYER OF THE YEAR DINNER SET FOR APRIL 30TH

Fully deserved. Always a worry when your best player is a loanee though.
Will be very hard to replace next season.2 -

Can you remember back to our last season in the Premier League ? Scott Carson won POTY that season....and he was on loan too. And fancy choosing a goalkeeper to win POTY the year we get relegated. He should have been sheep dipped, tar & feathered and then hounded out of town.jimmymelrose said:A Palace player winning the Charlton Athletic player of the year is in my opinion the ultimate concession of self-respect.
Accepting him as a loan player was a hit to the pride of our club but necessarily pragmatic.
Voting for him as POTY is too much for me
- I don't care how good he may be.
We can never live this down. It's an avoidably sad day in the history of our club. I don't understand how any Charlton supporter can bring him/herself to vote for a Palace player as our own Player of The Year.
I'm genuinely baffled by this.
Doesn't it go against the correct definition of 'Charlton Athletic Player of The Year'?
We’re saving that for Bonne!1 -
My view entirely was a joy to see him play and what a prospect they have on their hands.Oh Eddie Youds... said:Fully deserved. Always a worry when your best player is a loanee though.

Cheers i had forgotten about him.oohaahmortimer said:Should have gone to Alex Gilbey he is after all a Charlton player0 -
i didnt bother voting either but if you’d forced me to I’d have voted JRS for sure. So what if he’s a loan player? Would any neutral who watched us have known that? Gave it his all every game he played, and was probably slightly over-played, due to CBT being constantly injured.Pretty sure I voted for Josh Cullen too. In his case he stayed longer than some signed players we liked. But most of all it was a rare pleasure to watch JRS. When was the last time we saw a player produce a bodyswerve that sends two defenders half way up thr East Stand, before coolly despatching the ball into the net. He lit up an otherwise grim season. Isn’t that what we pay for?30

Actually, thought about it more and reckon I was wrong. Never really comfortable with loan players winning POTY but JRS has had a very good seasonAFKABartram said:Fair play, would have said Dobson myself but don’t begrudge Rak Sakyi0 -

The fact is that without him we'd have been in a relegation battle. Relegation to league 2 would have been slightly tougher to live down.4 -
Well done JRS - fully deserved. Wore our shirt all season and contributed to a level that was a joy to watch.6
-
He has been a Charlton player all season, played well and kept his place in the team throughout. It makes no difference what sort of employment circumstances brings a player to the squad, it’s what they do to earn the red shirt and keep it week in, week out.AFKABartram said:

Had a very enjoyable evening and know a fair bit more than I went in knowing. No complaints and really pleased I went. I really enjoyed speaking with the Charlton Live team too and thanks for all of your hard work to this season. Looking forward to the Pod tomorrow 👏0 -

Might be. When I have ever eaten at an event at the Valley (three times) the vegetarian food has been vile…that’s if there has been any provided at all!oohaahmortimer said:

It is also an insult if being a vegetarian is viewed as a ‘special dietary requirement’, that category is for nut allergies or whatever surely?
The payment of north of £40 for such an event is for others to enjoy, not me.
When the club email me to book a table for a match (this is not the POTY people) they bang on about a seat, a programme, a legend, they also say a delicious meal. Quite a claim when they don’t cater for vegetarians.5 -
For the record when I’ve sponsored a match the vegetarian option is always available in the centre circle loungeseth plum said:

Well done to JRS, Denying him POTY based on his parent club would have been madness.
A good young player with a bright future. Good luck JRS, all the best.9 -

We have done JRS a favour, something has to compensate him for having to return to those plastics.
No way should he stay at Charlton next season, if I were advising him I would suggest a Championship club would be the right option.0 -
Was in the Oak for a beer yesterday, nothing to do with the women's game or POTY do, but noted what a badly dressed support we got. At one end of the scale you had those who looked like they'd been kicked through River Island backwards, while at the other end, there's those who looked like they popped out for a pint of milk and a newspaper.20

A good evening. Yes, the food wasn't great and had to stop for a mac on the way home, but it didn't spoil the evening. Had a nice chat with DH and he's 100% committed to our club and already focused on next season. No sign of Bonne and was told by a very good source (not a player or staff) is that he's already left the club (not been seen at sparrows lane recently). We had Zach Mitchell on our table. Very nice lad and proper Charlton too. Joined by Heidi Logan from the women's team. She was lovely and very chatty.

You really don't like these events do you? I've never been myself because it's not really my bag but I can't, for the life of me, understand why you have this agenda to criticise other people who might actually enjoy going to them. It's also somewhat insulting to those that take the time to organise the events. They are Charlton fans too. You've only ever made 64 posts in seven years and one in eight of those are all about how much you hate them.DaisyEdwards said:This evening just about sums our club up. March 2016 POTY Dinner
(1) Thirty seven quid. You are having a laugh. This pathetic event should not take place. I would not waste my time voting for this hopeless, gutless, soulless, talentless rag bag of a team. May as well vote for Floyd or Harvey or whatever they are called under this regime. Only the most trainspotting saddos would support this…
(2) I wonder how many players will show up? I assume the players will be paying £37 for the meal.
Chris Solly Testimonial Dinner
(1) Sixty quid ! He is having a laugh. I know the money does not go to douchebag. Where does it go?
Valley Centenary Dinner
(1) What an absolute joke these prices are. You must be a complete mug if you want to sit down and have a 10th rate dinner with a load of freeloaders, because that is what they are. They are not legends. They are freeloading ponces that are milking you for every last penny. They earnt good money as players and can well afford…
2022 POTY
(1) Hope they all get some stick from fans
2023 POTY
(1) Absolutely meaningless waste of time and money.
(2) By virtue of the fact that this non event is being advertised indicates that i am being asked to attend. I decline. I do agree that it is an absolutely meaningless waste of time buying a season ticket at this moment in time.
(3) This evening just about sums our club up. I really do not understand why some of our fans support this non event. A mate has just texted to say the food was crap..

Bonne was training only last week up to Thursday, saw him training with the 1st team myself (but couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo even in training 🤦🏻♂️) but think the tie may have been severed since then. A good sign IMHO. Regardless of what comes next Deano is definitely inputting, perhaps unlike others before him… and is trying to do what’s best for the club.3

The only thing I can assume to rationalise this is that Daisy's entire family was killed at some kind of celebratory dinner years back and they've never recovered. I think they might be Sansa Stark.Addick Addict said:

That would have been very nice in the events I attended. Certainly better than the absolutely nothing (nobody told us sir) served up at one of them.MuttleyCAFC said:

I wonder if Sean Clare was obliged to eat dust last night.
I don’t think he would have opted for part of the carcass of a dead pig, even if it was wafer thin.1 -
As it happens, I got told, and not for the first time I hasten to add, that I look like Dan Balzerian last week. Reckon that must give my observations some gravitas in the clobber stakes, and what I saw yesterday was mess.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Nb. I wouldn't have wanted to win the GQ MOTY award since at least circa 2005. Werent that the Harriet Styles won with his nans clothes on the other year?1 -

eating is cheating and with my guts I can’t afford to be touching veg when on the piss
match day sponsorship was £240 per head with seat in directors box, programme, advertising, pictures in dugouts/ ground/ 3 course meal , cheese and biscuits , sausage roll / pie / veggie stuff after match , beer and wine thrown in all day , loads of banter with Bob Bolder , go on pitch pre match , choose man of match … in all honesty it’s a bit expensive for a shithouse league one club but a way of supporting the club and getting mates together once a year .
I choose it to get pissed tell everyone how shit we are and cuddle Bob .
