Welcome back Jason Roy
Hopefully the England white ball setup will take on board that on dreadfully slow unpredictably turning pitches like in Mirpur and in the India world cup to come a bit of patience when batting and guile with the bowling pay dividends. Smashing everything ain't feasible and dog slow wickets need more than just express pace and chin music.
Vince surely just keeping Johnny B's place warm until he's fully recovered.
Current squad in Bangladesh begs the question what are we going to do for spinners when Rash and Mo finally hang up their boots?0 -
Rehan Ahmed replaced the injured Jacks, becoming England's youngest ODI player. The long term replacement for Adil Rashid you'd imagine1

England slump to 55-30

This is turning into a good contest, but really it's down to Buttler to score the runs0

85 at virtually a run a ball is surely too much now, seeing how much the top 7 struggled0

Poor from Rashid. That really wasn't the ball to try and smash across the line. It will be interesting to see how Rehan Ahmed performs.0

182-9 off 40.20 -
Unusual for a TV replay for a low catch to be from the right angle like that. That side angle showed the catch was clean, whereas if the angle had been from the front it would have been far less clear0

That's 9 defeats in the 14 ODIs since Buttler took over. Not suggesting that it is fault by any means but the lack of exposure for our players really isn't helping. Next one isn't for another 6 months and a matter of weeks before the World Cup0

The England white ball team is a brilliant flat track bully side, given a nice fast pitch that encourages big shots.
When you have a slow, stodgy pitch where you can't slog the ball into the crowd at will, that's where you need someone like Root with the ability to manoeuvre the ball into the gaps for 1s and 2s without taking risks.1 -
Somehow I don't think we'll have to many flat decks in India for the WC. I do wonder if we will prepare some less than perfect decks come September.0

We won the series away from home 2-1. Bangladesh rarely lose ODI series at home. No need to overreact to one loss.1

Very difficult to panic when the ODI WC isn't for another seven months. As we haven't won any of the four previous series (all against teams ranked higher than Bangladesh) it would be good to play a few ODIs in the next six months. Although I do understand the need for the ECB to prep us for the impending Hundred World Cup which is why none of our players will be playing in our own domestic 50 over competition.0 -

I was busy yesterday so didn't watch or follow the T20 match, but a pretty disappointing looking scorecard. Bangladesh winning with 2 overs to spare is a very comfortable win in this format.0

(1) Had a squad for a series of just 13 players for an overseas series with no ability to call anyone else in?
(2) Had just 4 front line batsman in the squad with the two other non members of the team both being bowlers? At the drop of the 5th wicket, Woakes walked in and he has scored 36 runs in his last 19 T20Is. Jordan was next in and in 85 matches he has a top score of 36
(3) Played 5 seamers in a side in the sub continent with just 2, full or part time, spinners?
The issue is franchise cricket and too much cricket in total. We've gone from refusing KP's request to play in the IPL to allowing any player, whether they are centrally contracted or not, to go off and play T20 domestic cricket around the world whenever they want to. A number of England players turned down this opportunity and we couldn't get a replacement for the loss of Jacks and Abel who had pulled out. Billings was one of those - in the last 12 weeks he has played 29 matches in 4 different countries - the Australian Big Bash (8), Dubai T20 (13), Bangladesh Premier League (1) and Pakistan Super League (7 to date).
I am not knocking Billings for trying to make a living especially as he is someone who has carried the drinks for England for years and wants to play but money now dictates and we have to find a way to better distribute that. Central contracts do not work. And we are putting out sides for England that are fatigued from playing game after game - this was centrally contracted Adil Rashid's 70th game in the last 9 months. He is going to be playing in the IPL too. Is it any wonder that he and others might, even sub-consciously, not have the physical or mental strength to give their all for England?2 -
England's attitude to this series does seem to have been a bit half-hearted, letting players play T20 leagues and not being bothered by it. That's reflected in the lack of public and media interest.
Billings is an interesting one, as he has made the calculated decision to play all the T20 leagues in the winter thus missing the England white ball matches, but to skip the IPL so that he's available for Kent in the CC AND so that he can maximise his chance of being available for the England Test team this summer as backup keeper. From a Kent pov, that's preferable than if he can been with England squads all winter playing or carrying the drinks, then went to the IPL, missing the start of the county season.
Chris Woakes is one another missing the IPL to maximise his chances of playing in the Ashes.2
