That's a statement - if we released a player and had to pay out their contract, would that not affect our salary/budget issue? Or does that include wages ONLY?DubaiCAFC said:
Thank you for sharing info.. Heard they are going to press forward even if they can't shift, worst case would be release a player tomorrow.Covered_End_Lad said:My only concern with the forward is that other clubs at this level are also interested and we are reliant on shifting a player or two to make it happen.0 -
It depends on the player, on how much they are going to be paid off I believe. But I don't think we are anywhere near the FFP.. More the fact TS has set a budget and wants to stick to it...LonelyNorthernAddick said:

Only way that could work is if the player accepted far less than the rest of their contract otherwise may as well keep them if we're paying them in full and I don't see how a compromise agreement wouldn't contribute towards any fair play caps.1 -
Fingers crossed therer's more excitement than just one loan defender coming in.0

So we're playing with the terminology of the budget that our own owner set us then instead hahaDubaiCAFC said:

Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

After how much TS has been banging on about financial stability, I cannot imagine him spending north of £500k (or even £400k) on a single player.
Would love to be wrong (particularly for an exciting player), but I sincerely doubt it.1 -

If we pay JFC off tomorrow it will be the most Charlton thing ever. Probably buy him back in January...DubaiCAFC said:

Although it probably is the best solution for all concerned at this stage.0 -
It will also be interesting if any younger players go out on EFL loans this week, or whether we will just use the flexibility that NL loans give.
Indeed that's been an unfortunate consequence of the transfer windows, as the likes of Henry or Ness might have benefited from a L2 loan in say October when we have a fuller squad.0 -

I agree, I want someone who’s firstly a striker rather than a winger who can play up front.killerandflash said:
However given we want one with pace it’s likely have some ability to play wide too. It makes more sense than a pure poacher or another target man.
Another interesting thing about Sam Smith is he’s left footed. He could give both Stockley and JRS competition. Our left winger in Kirk or CBT is then more of a creator, with the main goal threats coming from the striker and right winger.
We have enough wingers/wide forwards - we need an out & out striker. Someone (like TS stated) who can run in behind defences & not struggle to get into the box 5 seconds after releasing the ball (Stockley)
'Swap Mcleary for Stockley yesterday and we would have won.'

I'm not saying that there hasn't been a precedent for it (Kirk was around that much, iirc?) - it was more about my perception of his recent emphasis on keeping the purse strings tight in the business.ShootersHillGuru said:

I get what you're saying that he has spent (relatively) big before, but the suggestion to me from the recent statement was that we would likely be fairly frugal for the next couple of years. However, I'm also not accounting for any money budgeted, per season, to transfer fees that he will keep stashed away nor talk about publicly.
It could all be smoke and mirrors to ensure other clubs/agents don't take the piss.2 -
Stockton replaces Stockley who goes to Stoke. Trying that after a few pints.Bolderhumphreyreid said:
Perhaps Stockley will go to Stoke then? It might be worth keeping an eye on Stockley's movements in the next 24 hours.charltonnick said:Interesting to read on the Sunderland site that Alex Neill wanted to sign Stockley but was blocked by the board.

Forward have reverted to what it has always been, any position up front whether 1, 2, 3 or 4 players are used on the wing/flank, centre Forward, Number 9, Central forward, right winger or Left winger, you are the generic term a forward.
Charlton need the guy who can take up any position in a front 3. We all hope we can say what a goal scoring forward we have here, he could be the strikers we have craved since Taylor and Grant( they could play wide or central during a match) left but miracles take a little longer so let's not say HMS Piss the league until we see if the new player/s gell and can strike.

To be fair, he's been playing up front on his own recently. But that's due to injuries in the squad, not his natural position.FishCostaFortune said:

Bowler expected to leave Blackpool for Forest in a £4m move.I know their previous manager has moved on, but it wouldn’t shock me if we had some late bids for Kirk.4

Yes indeed, but in a fluid front 4, with Wing, Wheeler and Mehmeti so he could often pull out to the flanks whilst others went central.SDAddick said:

Which is the sort of ‘forward’ I think Golfie is constantly saying he does not want, even though he was lauding that style of play this weekend.0 -
Isn't that the point though? Golfie thinks we need an out and out Central Striker, but thinks if we were playing a winger upfront on Saturday instead of Stockley we'd have won - the two points are an oxymoron to each other.SDAddick said:

Haven't they brought in Ian Poveda from Leeds on loan already to essentially replace Bowler?

Will Boyle on loan from Huddersfield would fit our CB profile very nicely,1

Be interesting to see if any off DJ , JFC and Gilbey feature tonight ?8

I'm surprised Forest are interested at that price tag. They only want players that cost at least £20m these days.ElliotCAFC said:Bowler expected to leave Blackpool for Forest in a £4m move.I know their previous manager has moved on, but it wouldn’t shock me if we had some late bids for Kirk.0 -
Will Boyle's name keeps popping up. I would honestly not be upset about that. He's left footed as well so it's almost a perfect fit. O'Connell, Lavelle, Boyle and Inniss would be an excellent group at this level.
Only piece that doesn't fit is that the defender has apparently not played at League One level. Boyle has. So that would point towards a younger loan player...8 -
The probably offered more but Blackpool said they only needed £4m to sign Kirk.Callumcafc said:
