He doesn’t look out of place in our worst ever side.
move him on or back up that won’t be needed at best.
that team was so good I could have been carried in it , as in there was room for your Josh Parkers and Purringtons to be along for the ride .
He is not good enough to be a starter for us , slow motion and lead boots are not what I’d want in a full back/wing back
Purrington was part of it but I think he was at the lower end of the players that made that team.
Hence most of them have gone on to better things rather than sloshing about in the worst Charlton side in history1 -

Not good enough if we want to be promoted, bizarrely overrated by many on here imo3

and of course he’s a pro , tries hard and has done well to make it this far in the game but I’m a football snob and want better for Charlton .1 -
A lot of people here remembering the final dozen games run-in of the 2018-19 promotion season - and seemingly believing the entire season was like that.
Until that happened that team, through the winter stricken with injuries to key players, was pretty meh often enough.
We truly had a left back problem once Lewis Page got injured early in the season (remember getting spanked at Scunthorpe 5-3, anyone?
There was no recognised LB who could step in. Naby Sarr and Solly would fill in at LB sometimes, but our backline could be pulled all over the place looking like it would always ship a goal or 2.
In the January Purrington was brought in ........ straight away we could see he was positionally sound and enabled the defence to keep it's shape.
He was no Roberto Carlos but we did see a solid Third Division LB. Remember Lee Bowyer referring to him as 'Steady Eddie'?
Even in that brilliant final run in we lost the one game, at Oxford after taking an early lead. Purrington was ill missing that match and the defence shaky. Solly covered at LB and was red carded for an 'orrible late challenge when he was caught out. Purrington was back next game and the defence was solid again.
You may not have been impressed by Purrington - but you can bet the management team were. Impressed sufficiently to pay our first transfer fee for years to get him re-signed that summer. He's maybe limited at times but he rarely lets us down. Steady Eddie.

We should definitely be looking to attract better in the summer (is there a Rhoys Wiggins mk 2 available?) but Purringtinho is a great option to have in the squad. We won't find better than him for that role.2 -

Another one you frequently see is that he once played well in an important game, or had a hand in it.
That people have to go back that far says a lot about his contribution since.1 -
Nothing but respect for BP, he's a solid, honest league 1 left back, but as we won't be playing with that position I think we need to be ruthless. 2 specialist wingback for either side, or maybe 3 in total, with DJ and CBT in reserve.2

Likeable fella. Scored our winner at Wembley. Grafter who gives his all. I like him.
Would love us to find better and for a first team starter I would hope/expect us to do so. As a squad back up I would not mind keeping him but equally would not be too bothered if we didn't if we are to persist with JJ formation next season.2 -

He did not look out of place in a far superior (promoted) team to this one.
There are at least 15 other players in our squad whose place needs reviewing before we get to him.
Does his best in a 4 man defence.1 -

He came in half way through that 18/19 season. In the 19 league games between his arrival and the end of the season, we conceded nine goals. In the 19 games prior to his arrival, we had conceded 24 goals. Almost three times as many.
Purrington was the only defender who arrived at the club during that January window.
This isn't a case of he played well once or he was carried by his teammates to a promotion. His arrival was an integral part in our success that season.2 -
Purrington is massively underrated on here IMHO. He's no Ashley Cole, but has been decent for us1

Obviously he is a better option than bringing in another Soare, but I hope we are seriously looking at other options. He's not a wingback. He's also been part of this core group that have consistently let us down over the past few years and I think we need a fresh start in the dressing room.1 -
Again I'm not sure winning a playoff final is being part of a team "letting us down". He's also been used as a left winger and as a left sided centre back recently and done ok in both roles. He's not a world beater but he's a solid full back in League 10

Would rather have a solid player that you can guarantee 35/40 games from a season, rather than a talented player that is injury prone and who you are lucky to see 15/20 games out of them5

Purrington is also one of many players who got worse after our switch to 3.5.2.

I like Purrington. A solid league 1 player. If our team improves he’ll be a utility sub at best but that’s about it. As it is now he’s one of our more reliable players.0

Imagine Purrington will probably get another chance to start today at LCB. Be interesting to see how he performs as I think he’s only players whose playing for his Charlton future (Most of the other decisions are quiet obvious IMO)1

Happy Birthday to our average left back at our average (in footballing terms) Club.0

Whatever the future holds for Purrington, I will always have fond memories of his vital equaliser in the 2019 play off final. For that alone I hope he has a bright future ahead of him.
